Tools and Hardware Reviews of Bird-X YG Yard Gard Ultrasonic Animal RepellerCustomer Review: BobA Summary: 5 Stars
Raccoon deterrent. I had a family of raccoons plowing up my yard. I tried trapping them, hauling them away, and hoping they didn't beat me home. I am quite pleased with my Bird-X Yard Gard. I followed the instructions. I initially mounted it at ground level. It had some immediate effect. I then mounted it about 3 feet high on the side of the house. I put the device on a timer, in the constant mode, so that it only goes on at night. It takes a week or two to have a suitable effect. I still have raccoons, but they now dig a little on the perifery of the oval shaped ultra sound area. I really need two of them to cover my lawn. As far as I am concerned, it works as advertised.
Customer Review: No Help Against Racoons in San Francisco Summary: 1 Stars
I live in a San Francisco suburb and bought this product to deter racoons from digging up my freshly laid sod (the racoons are looking for grubs under the sod). Every night, a family of the stripey-faced blighters (SFBs) would tear up my lawn. Unfortunately, this product proved no deterrent whatsoever.
Since it's illegal to kill racoons in my community and trap-and-release doesn't solve the problem, the only solution that has since worked for me was to lay chicken wire over the lawn (secured into the ground using jute stakes). The chicken wire (inexpensively procured from Home Depot) prevents the SFBs from rolling up the sod.
Customer Review: My garden is no longer a litter box Summary: 4 Stars
We were having a hard time keeping our cats and other neighborhood cats out of our gardens. We tried all the tricks we found on the net, but nothing worked. We decided to give the Bird-x animal repeller at try. After install we watched as our cats would walk toward the garden then turn and book it when the motion detector kicked it on. The only problem we encountered was, we decided to mount them in a sheltered box, and the adjustment knobs are located on the back of the unit, requiring us to remove them everytime we want to change a setting. This is only a problem because of how we mounted them. All in all, they seem good. Unless you're my cats!
Customer Review: Works well enough Summary: 4 Stars
I've had a problem with raccoons tearing up my lawn and borrowed one of these from my cousin who had a spare. On the 2nd or 3rd night i used it I caught a raccoon digging a few feet from it. However apparently it takes a few days for them to be repealed by the sound. After a couple of monthes of no raccoon problem I took it down and gave it back to my cousin. 2 days later the raccoons can back and torn my lawn apart. I'm buying one and keeping it up. Worked best when set up to be always on. If your over 40 like me, you'll never hear the tone, but my 36 year old friend could hear it and it drove him crazy when he was in the yard.
Customer Review: Works great! Summary: 5 Stars
I reviewed these before buying one and chose this model because it got mostly good reviews and was a very good price. It was easy to set up and the cats and dogs don't like it, so they are staying out of my flower bed and off our chairs. The only negative is that my children can also hear it and they complained about it, but the adults can only hear it if they are right next to it. I turned it back down a little so they aren't complaining too much now. I plan to buy another to see if it will keep the deer out of my MIL's plants and would like to get a couple more to place near our doors so the pets will stay away.
