Tools and Hardware Reviews of BISSELL 20Q9 CleanView II Plus Upright Bagless Vacuum

Customer Review: Good Under $100 Vacuum!!!
Summary: 4 Stars

My original pick was the Bissell PowerForce in the $70 price range but could not locate one in stock and as our house is on the market I needed a new vacuum fast, my 10+ yr old Electrolux died the day before. The $80 the Clearview 2 seemed to have similar features. I found it does have a lot of suction power and I filled up the canister after doing half of our 2600 sq. ft. home. It's very light, easy to maneuver and not overly loud (I find Dirt Devils are). I used the Turbo Brush on the stairs and it was very effective. I did find that the attachment hose is a little short and I do not like that there is no way to disengage the Brush Roll on the bottom of the machine while using the attachments, I wouldn't want to leave it running in one place for too long... This is by far my biggest complaint with this model. The power cord is plenty long, the attachments are accessible, easy to use and have great suction power, and it seemed to pick up all the dirt and dust off my tile floors without shooting stuff out and around. Haven't had to clean the filters yet but as I've owned a bagless before I'm prepared for what's involved. I've owned an Electrolux, a Kirby and a Dirt Devil and the only benifit I've seen with the more expesive models is durability. The Dirt Devil, before it died, out cleaned the Electrolux, and the Kirby was just way too heavy. Overall the Bissell Clearview 2 performs well for under $100 and if it lasts for a couple of years will have proven to be a good vacuum cleaner for the money.

Customer Review: Great Value
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a great vacuum for the price. I live in a small home with carpet, hardwood, tile and area rugs to clean and I found this vacuum worked well on all of those areas. My previous vacuum was a $250 Eureka that worked for 5 years with minor issues and I like this one just as well for less than half the price.

PROS-
Good suction power
Bright light
Dirt cup design is better than my previous vacuum
Does a good job on bare floors without blowing things around

CONS-
Short hose
When using attachments the suction snaps the vacuum towards you sharply
The HEPA filter is low to the ground, blows things around on bare floors
Needs to cool down between rooms, motor gets very hot quickly
Turbo brush is difficult to remove from it's holder

NOTES-
I would not recommend for large homes with lots of carpeted areas
Surface indicator dial works just fine, but that was the first thing to break on my precious vacuum.
I didn't find it to be especially loud for a normal vacuum.
Not too heavy at all. This is actually the lightest vacuum I have owned.
Regular filter maintenance IS required to keep this vacuum in good running condition. But I do find it is easier to clean the dust cup and filter compared to other bagless vacuums I have owned. I don't find it to be a hassle, I just empty the cup after each room and that seems to be working well.

Customer Review: Cleanview is a great vacuum, but...
Summary: 4 Stars

I've had two of the cleanview models. Both worked great and had great suction. The filters (there are 3 of them) are very effective, it's easy to clean and fairly lightweight. I couldn't be happier with it. But a few things a new owner should know.

1) You can wash all of the filters except the Hepa. Just run it under warm water and keep squeezing until the water comes clear. Then set out to dry COMPLETELY.

2)The filters need cleaning at least 4 times a year.

3) The brush wheel should also be cleaned by removing the cover plate and suctioning the brushes AND the ends. Like I said, we've had two and both have had the brush start to stick after a year or two. You'll notice that the brush doesn't rotate as well when you're running the vacuum. Eventually the brush can become so stiff that it won't rotate at all and you'll start to burn the belt. You'll think the belt needs replacing, but when you buy a new one, it'll start to burn too. Here's the good news, if this happens, all you need to do is go to the Bissell site and buy a new rotating brush (for about $15). It's really, really simple to change out. Remove the belt, pull out the old brush and then snap the new one in place.

So, it's a great vacuum especially for the price. It takes a little upkeep to keep it running well and you might need to replace the brush appliance if you don't keep up with cleaning out the filters etc.

Customer Review: Dumping disaster - not for pet owners!
Summary: 1 Stars

We purchased this vacuum 8 months ago for ~$150 and are throwing it out today and replacing it with $40 bagged Dirt Devil.

Why?

It has by far the most poorly designed cleaning mechanism I have ever seen. Most bagless vacuums have a canister that removes in tact from the unit, keeping all the dirt contained until you remove the top of the canister and dump into the trash. Easy!

This engineering-nightmare has a debris canister which CANNOT BE FULLY REMOVED. The bottom half unlocks while the top half stays in place. So while you are pulling out the bottom half all the dirt left in the top gets released all over the vacuum/surrounding area/you. Then you have to pull clumps of stuck hair, etc. from the top with your hands which continues to dump all over the base of the vacuum. You need to VACUUM THE VACUUM! It takes me over an hour to clean and I have to wear a mask while I do it.

This cleaning mechanism is a particularly big problem if you have pets. We have a very furry German Shepherd and almost all carpeted floors. So just vacuuming one room we completely fill the canister with fur. The fur clogs up the top, un-removable portion of the canister, and makes dumping even more impossible.

It is powerful, lightweight and has a very nice rolling action. But if it re-releases 50% of the debris it picked up it can't be doing it's job. In summary, DO NOT BUY THIS VACUUM!

Customer Review: Makes vacuuming almost fun!
Summary: 4 Stars

I've had this vacuum for several months now and it makes vacuuming less of a chore and almost fun! I have two kids and a big dog and a two-story house that is mostly carpeted and the Cleanview II handles both carpets and hardwoods like a champ. I vacuum about once a week and it's amazing (and gross) to look into the dirt cup and see what we were stepping on! I clean out the dirt cup and check the filters whenever I clean the whole house. As some reviewers mentioned, this part is a dusty chore, but what I do is take the vacuum into the garage, dump the contents of the dirt cup into the trash, check the filters and then run a Swiffer dry cleaning cloth over everything. It takes only a minute after you get the hang of it. I haven't had to wash or replace any of the filters yet, but everything is easy to remove and reattach -- The manual gives you full instructions, so be sure you look at it.

My old vacuum was a heavy 12-year-old Hoover cannister style that was a pain to use. Now my carpets seem cleaner and we seem to have less dust in the air, perhaps thanks to the HEPA filter. I'm so glad I switched.

Pros -- Very lightweight, strong suction, rolls easily over the carpets.

Cons -- Takes some practice to clean dirt cup/filters. Wish it came with one additional attachment wand so I could reach cobwebs in ceiling corners.
