Tools and Hardware Reviews of BISSELL 3106A Featherweight Lightweight VacuumCustomer Review: Bissell Featherweight vacuum GREAT for price Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great little vacuum for the price. We all have to remember that it is VERY light and fairly delicate. We can't expect it to clean and entire house with carpets. I have a house of nearly entirely hardwood type floors. Two of my rooms are carpet and I quickly realized that the handle on this little vacuum could easily snap if precaution is not taken.
I have a toddler and 2 dogs. The house can be quickly messied by dirt and crumbs. This little vacuum picks all that up with no problem. The fact that the head piece can detach to fit into small spaces is a huge benefit! I don't normally have a spider problem but I see that if I did I could just detach the head piece and suck em up :)
I had wanted a cordless vacuum but had worried about sucking power. I'm glad I chose this one because it seems to have a decent amount of power....especially since I have hard floors.
PROS:
-Compact, can fit into small closet or corner
-Detachable head to suck dirt in small spaces/corners
-Low price
-Suction for such a small vacuum
CONS:
-Cord is fairly long but I still can't reach areas
-Doesn't work as well on carpet (but that's expected)
-Attachment/head piece might scratch hard floors
Hope this review helped. This little vacuum is a great purchase for quick jobs around the house.
Customer Review: Doesn't do edges, leaves a ¾" gap. A cheap, useful, and glorified dustbuster! Summary: 4 Stars
I'm pretty happy with this stick-vac for the price. It's important to note, that it is really nothing more than a dustbuster with a long handle and floor attachment.
Pros:
-Plug in/Cord offers better suction power than a rechargeable
-Much quicker and easier cleanup of kitchen floors than traditional broom-and-dustpan
-Disassembles into a handheld dustbuster, which is great for the car and dry messes
Cons:
-Doesn't do edges. Floor tool leaves a ¾" gap.
I fight off ants that are constantly invading our home by sprinkling Gold Bond powder at the ants point of entry. The talc/menthol combo is quick, super effective, and safe. I usually use the regular vacuum to suck up the excess powder off the floor after a day or two.
When I used my new stick-vac for this, there was a clean stripe of un-sucked powder ¾" from the baseboard. It was a very clear delineation whether I approached the baseboard head-on with the vac, or from the side.
I still enjoy the convenience of this handy little vac, but it's important to know that it might not be picking up everything you'd expect it to near edges, with its floor attachment. You'll have to remove the floor tool, or use the crevice attachment to suck things out of your edges and corners.
Customer Review: A good lightweight vac for the price... Summary: 3 Stars
For an inexpensive stick vac, it does the job. I bought it because I'm pregnant and didn't want to haul the heavy vac up and down the stairs constantly. This is great to pick up most dust and pet hair in between jobs with my "real" vacuum. It's great at picking up pet hair, kitty litter, dust, etc, from my hardwood floors. It even gets most debris from my low-pile area rugs. With vigorous back-and-forth scrubbing, it can pick up stubborn lint from the rug as well, but it takes effort. I love using it on my stairs - they are hardwood, and this lightweight vac is just the tool for it. I also love that the "hand vac" part of it can be used with the extended handle - perfect for getting cobwebs out of corners.
Now, cons - the cord is too short - it doesn't even make it the length of my living room. I'm going to banish it to the upstairs because my rooms are smaller. I was hoping that it might work in my basement as well, but I have NatureStone and it just doesn't have the oomph to get debris up from in between the stones. It's not very good at picking up pet hair off the furniture, either, even as a hand vac.
Bottom line - good for what it is - a lightweight, inexpensive vacuum. I don't expect it to last forever, but I like it for now.
Customer Review: Better than a broom. Summary: 4 Stars
I've owned this Bissell stick vac for years and it's still going strong. I find it so useful. It's more convenient to use than the old standard broom and dustpan, and it works better on bare floors than a standard vacuum cleaner. Small and lightweight, I don't need to lug it anywhere -- just pick it up and go.
I wouldn't use this Bissell on most carpets, unless they are very low pile. It's easier to use a standard vacuum there, where the weight of the vacuum and some wheels would help make pushing and pulling the vacuum a little easier. More powerful suction is needed there, anyway.
No, this little vacuum is better suited for hard floors, where one would normally use a broom. It suctions well there, and there are no roller brushes to throw debris across the room, which is what happens with my standard vacuum.
Although the handle does come off for use as a hand vac, I've never had need for that. The flathead attachment comes off, and I've removed it when I've needed more suctioning power on a smaller area.
This is a bagless vacuum, which means we don't need to buy bags. However, it can be messy to empty. Still, the Bissell Featherweight is a great product and I'm glad I bought it.
Customer Review: If You Hate Sweeping ~ Cheap Fantastic Alternative Summary: 3 Stars
I'm a bit of a neat/clean freak and don't really have too many gadgets for cleaning. My vacuum, a broom, a long handled duster, and LOTS of clean rags. I'm a firm believer in if you want the hard floor clean nothing beats getting down on your hands and knees with a few clean cloths and a scrub brush! But, I Hate to sweep with a broom - what a mess, and I can NEVER seem to get everything up off the floor. Using a regular vacuum just seems to blow everything around more on the floor and you're forced to try to chase things around with the small round end of an attachment. A friend at work turned me on to this item and I LOVE it. It is essentially a Dust Buster on a stick, but what I like about it is that it doesn't blow the dust/dog hair around while using like the regular vacuum does. It's extremely lightweight. You can not use this on carpet, well, I guess you could, but I think it would be useless. I'm only giving it 3 stars because I, like other reviewers, think it could be a bit sturdier and yes, you do have to clean the filter with your fingers, and make sure you're over the trash can when opening the unit to clean the filter - YUK! I've only had this for about two months, but I use it often and am really happy with it.
