Tools and Hardware Reviews of BISSELL Cleanview Helix Upright Vacuum Cleaner, Bagless, 82H1Customer Review: couldn't believe how much dirt it picked up! Summary: 4 Stars
**I'm only rating this 4 stars for now since I just got it; will adjust over time if needed** After seeing the copious amount of pine needles my christmas tree shed this year I decided it was time for a new vacuum. Our current vacuum had been underperforming anyway since we brought home two kittens a few months ago (bringing our total to 2 large dogs, and 3 cats), so it was time. I had a short list of things that were non-negotiable: it had to be less than $100; use a canister instead of a bag, and have a hose attachment. After checking several websites and reading many reviews I decided on this one.
This arrived yesterday, and we assembled quickly and easily. I hadn't vacuumed for a few weeks, and w/ 2 dogs, 3 cats, and a christmas tree that meant that our carpet was pretty dirty. However, it wasn't so dirty that vacuuming a 6x12' area should have filled up the canister, but it did. It wasn't all pet hair and pine needles; this was very fine dirt that apparently the vacuum we bought last year (a Eureka) left deep down in our carpet. We had to dump the canister (which is average size) many times as we vacuumed the house, but our carpets look and feel amazing now thanks to the deep cleaning this vacuum gives. though the vacuum feels a tad heavy when you're using it the very powerful motor pulls you right along and it's not a problem. It stores very easily in the broom cupboard, and dumping the canister is very easy. The only complaint I have it that the "turbo brush" tool is fairly useless on the upholstery we tried it on. But that's not why we bought this model, and we won't use it that much anyway, so I'm not really counting it against this vacuum.
Customer Review: Dirt is ejected from the base while using attachments! Summary: 1 Stars
The suction is rather impressive to begin with, but I can only go one or two rooms before having to empty the small dirt container, otherwise suction drops to almost nothing-- and the dirt container isn't even half full yet. The filters and dirt container become inundated after every time I vacuum, adding another 30 minutes to clean those out. I concur with the review that said the outside of the vacuum is completely filthy after every use. I've never had such a high-maintenance vacuum.
Still, I wouldn't have given this vacuum a single star rating just for that. Here's the kicker: dirt is launched from the base of the unit when using the attachment hose! To use the attachments, you have to remove the stretch hose from the unit, but the brushes on the main base continue to spin. Even when I adjust the base to the highest setting, this vacuum still grabs dirt and sends it up through the part of the base where the stretch hose is normally connected. Only without that stretch hose connected, huge amounts of dirt and dust go sailing through the air. Trying to use the attachment hose literally just undid several hours of meticulous cleaning in this room.
When I called customer support, I expected to hear that there was some crucial plug that I was missing which would stop debris from being launched from the vacuum. Nope. I was told I needed to clean the area the vacuum would be sitting on before using the attachments. I told him that this sounded like a serious design flaw, and he only replied that he had nothing to do with the design.
I thought I'd found a deal on a vacuum. Turns out, you really do get what you pay for.
Customer Review: Excellent vacuum for an excellent price. Summary: 5 Stars
We got this vacuum before Christmas and started using it right away. My wife and I are VERY pleased with this vacuum. It is super easy to empty (bagless), and it's also easy to remove and wash the few parts that get dirty, and to remove and wash the foam filter. It has a lot of power and has just the right number of attachments.
The hose is not very long, but that's not a problem for us. When using the hose, if you pull it too far you can tip over the vacuum, but again, this is really not a problem. Once you get used to it, no big deal. If you are on your hands and knees using the hose, you just position your body to brace the vacuum if you need to pull the hose farther than normal.
In our home, we often have to clean up dried cat vomit (ewww), and the hose/nozzle does a good job at that. Also, we have a natural fireplace, so we always have firewood debris in the house. This vac sucks up most in upright mode, and the hose does the rest. No troubles.
We have mostly carpeting, so I really don't know how good this vac will be on hard floors. It does have an adjustment for floor/carpet height like most vacs.
This is the first Bissell we have owned (we are former Eureka and Panasonic owners). For the $80-ish price (free shipping with Amazon), it's a best buy in our book. The leading consumer magazine also rates it well. We went to a local Sears store to try out this model in the store before buying it for a better price (and no sales tax) via Amazon.
The vacuum is not too heavy, and the cord and attachments all stay on the machine when not in use. We recommend this vacuum.
Customer Review: Good vacuum for a great price Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this vacuum a couple of months ago when our Hoover (that was quite expensive) broke after only 3 years. At that point I decided that I didn't want to buy another expensive vacuum if we were going to have to replace them that often. I looked around and compared the reviews for quite a few. I decided on this one because I wanted a bagless vacuum that was adjustable for hardwood floors and carpet. This one seemed to have the best reviews for the price. I thought the attachments that came with this one would be convenient as well. I think this vacuum is really good - it has a lot of sucking power, just as much as my old cleaner. I do have to empty it frequently, but I think that is normal just for the rugs that we have in our house. My biggest complaint is the stretchy hose that you use with the attachments - it does not stretch well and ends up tipping over the cleaner pretty often. I can tell a little bit of a difference in the quality of certain things compared to our hold Hoover - for example the plastic wheels on this one don't seem as good as my old cleaner, but I don't really care about that as long as they don't break and it continues to do it's primary job which is cleaning the floor.
One of the best features is that it will lay down flat and I can get it all the way underneath the coffee table and the bed, which I've never been able to do with any other cleaner. I also like that it's much more lightweight than my old vacuum which makes it easier for me to get up the stairs with it.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a new vacuum cleaner as good value for the money spent.
Customer Review: Powerful! Summary: 4 Stars
Apart from standard positives of this vacuum like number of extensions, following are some positives which I thought are really unique:
1. Power. Vacuum cleaner is indeed powerful as mentioned by others in their review.
2. Mode controlling knob. This knob, at the base of vacuum that helps you in controlling the mode, is useful indeed. You can easily clean hard floor at low power whereas you need more power if you are cleaning carpets. And control is given to you, which is always good.
3. Cable length. I loved the length of cable this vacuum cleaner comes with. I was able to clean two rooms from a single socket in my living room. It is always frustrating to keep on plugging in vacuum after every 5 min. This long cable ensured I don't have to do it every now and then.
4. Light bulb. A light source given on this vacuum which moves with vacuum is a well thought feature. It doesn't only help with light at dark places, but also gives you an idea of how close or far your the vacuum's edge is from the wall. It helps in avoiding banging into wall while cleaning.
Negatives:
1. it is little heavier (bulky). if you are willing to compromise on features and power and if you have a backache problem, I would not recommend you this vacuum. It is not very bulky and if you are fit enough, you won't even feel the weight. This warning is for people who are already suffering from a backache.
2. Better manual. Not that vacuum is very hard to assemble, but more pictures in manual would give me more confidence when I assemble it.
