Tools and Hardware Reviews of BISSELL Cleanview Helix Upright Vacuum Cleaner, Bagless, 82H1

Customer Review: Not to shabby
Summary: 3 Stars

Negatives: The cord is very short as is the attachment hose so if you want to clean stairs, you'll be carrying the entire vacuum with you and you'll need an extension cord. Its not easy to clean the vacuum itself or the filters and its not good for cleaning fine dust like fireplce ash. Dust comes through all the filters and fills the air again. The on/off switch is in a very inconvenient place on the side of the handle rather than close to your fingers for easier access. Definitely designed by someone who doesn't do much vacuuming. I am not to anxious to see what kind of ordeal it takes to put in a belt. It does NOT clean edges well so you have to use the crevice tool for that. Just another annoyance.
The Positives: It does clean and it does a nice job giving your carpets a "refreshed" look. I have also a Kirby vacuum and this Bissell is not nearly as complicated to use as the Kirby and it cleans just as well. The powerbrush does a real nice job especially if you have pets and its great in your car. I also have an Oreck and this one is by far and away the better vacuum. I got this because I was tired of the Kirby hassel and having to vacuum again after using the Oreck. For a back up vacuum I am pleased and find that I use this one more than the others because of the final outcome.
Its easy to assemble but its construction doesn't offer much in durability. If you're going off to a college dorm and need a vacuum, this is perfect. If you have a small apartment, this will do the job. For a home with children, you might want to get something sturdier.

Customer Review: Great vacuum for the price
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this vacuum about 6 weeks ago so now I figure that I've used it enough to write a review.
I love it!

It is very powerful, sucks up dust and dirt that I didn't even realize was there. Works very well on hard tile floors and rugs. It is very easy to adjust the brushes for the different floor types.

The attachments are great, especially the turbo brush which i find myself using all the time. I can clean up dust and cat hair in seconds with this: from the sofa, pet beds, my bed and even lampshades!
Super easy to empty too. I empty the canister after every use- its nearly always full and I cleaned the filters and canisters today for the first time. It was very simple to remove each one, then just wash them in warm water and leave to dry before reinstalling.

On the down side, this vacuum is a little heavy and won't get into tight places like my old one.. but that was a Dirt Devil PowerStick so maybe it's not a fair comparison.
The hose can be a little cumbersome to clip back into place after switching from an attachment as it tends to get tangled up with the power cord but you get used to it.

Overall, I am very very pleased. It is a powerful vacuum with plenty of useful attachments for a very reasonable price. It even looks good. My husband likes the color..so maybe he'll feel like using it soon!

February 27, 2011 Update: Now one year later and it's still working perfectly! I highly recommend this vacuum cleaner. A great product at a great price.

Customer Review: Almost got caught up in the hype...
Summary: 5 Stars

This vacuum is great! It took less than 5 minutes to assemble. And it worked MUCH better than I expected it to. I almost got wrapped up in the vacuum cleaner hype. The more expensive it is, the better it is...or so "they" say.

I went to the store with intentions of buying the Shark Navigator ($200) because of the great reviews on Amazon. But I wanted a "turbo brush" type of attachment because I think that is the best tool for getting pet hair off of furniture. Shark Navigator didn't have the turbo brush so I went with this one instead.

My BLACK cat likes to lay on a WHITE pillow that sits on my bed, which I have since let him have lol. Well this thing got pretty much all of the cat hair off of the pillow. It went from being gray to being white again! And don't get me started about all of the dirt I was able to get off of the floor!

I have a friend that has a Bissell Pet Hair Eraser that he thought was awesome, but this is basically the same vacuum with one less attachment (which I don't think you'll miss) and it costs almost half as much. Save your money and BUY THIS VACUUM!!!

Pros:
-Turbo brush attachment is great for pet hair.
-Not too heavy (I'm pretty petite and I could carry this up the stairs if I needed to)
-Can't beat the price!
-Canister is easy to empty

Cons:
-I didn't really want to have to replace filters but the filter only costs about $5 so that's reasonable.

Customer Review: Great vacuum - great value!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am delighted with this vacuum. Almost embarrassed on how much dirt it gets each time. The first use I had to clean the vacuum after only doing two rooms, no dogs or cats, and just recently vacuumed by a Panasonic canister. We also take our shoes off in the house.

I'm am very impressed with the sequential filters they have in this vacuum - at least 5 before the motor and then two on the output including the HEPA filter. While messy to clean, all of the filters and canisters easily come off the vacuum, well designed in this aspect. I find that I need to clean after every use that covers about 1,000 sq. ft of floors. It is very good at picking up yarn - my wife is a knitter and the little slubs were a pain to get with the Panasonic canister I had. Had to scrape away to get - now everything gets taken by this vacuum.

The only complaint I have it that the suction around the edges and sides is not great so I have to use the attachment to do the corners and edges near the chairs and couch that are too close to the floor to allow it access. The rotating beater brush almost gives it a self propelling feature. Very good on short carpets, likes to grab the fringes on throw rugs, sort of like trying to take a bone away from a dog.

Bottom line, totally happy with it after a few months of use. The noise is even reasonable. Only downside is that wife is too smart to be around when it needs cleaning. YMMV on this aspect...

Customer Review: Kirby Breakdown Best Thing To Happen To Us!
Summary: 5 Stars

We have had a Kirby G4 for 15 years and thought it was working great. It broke down on us the other day and as it turns out it was the best thing that could have happened to our carpets/general house cleanliness. I did things a bit backwards (reading the reviews AFTER we bought the product) since we needed the vacuum fast. I ran to Target and bought this vacuum (only spending $75 thinking we would keep it as our downstairs vacuum and repair the Kirby). Boy were we WRONG. My wife and I were purely disgusted by what we pulled out of our carpeting/upholstery. We have 2 kids and 2 cats. The cat hair, general grime and fine dust we pulled out of our carpet was revolting to say the least. I had to empty the canister about a dozen times before I was done and then fully clean the filters, etc. afterwards. Here we thought we had the real-deal with our Kirby and now it's going to the dump on Saturday! This is our first bagless vacuum and I must say it sounds like we totally lucked out by purchasing this after reading the reviews. I would go along with the rest in recommending this for pet owners. I'm curious to see how my friend who is allergic to cats does the next time he is here (things didn't go so well for him last time). The only downfall is the short hose for using the attachments. However the Zipbrush works WAY better than the Kirby one so it's worth the pain of the short hose. What a blessing in disguise!
