Tools and Hardware Reviews of BISSELL Flip-!t Bare Floor Cleaner, 5200Customer Review: Goodbye mop & bucket! Summary: 5 Stars
First off, if I'd read the other negative reviews here BEFORE I saw this machine in Target, I probably would've passed it up. Which would've been unfortunate because this little guy has saved me so much time and energy. We have a checkerboard black & white tile floor in our kitchen, two dogs (one white & one brown) and a 2 year old. Needless to say, our kitchen floor is a mixture of crumbs, dog hair , tracked in dirt, etc. Now, every night, after dinner, I pull out the Flip It and the floor is prestine in about 5 minutes.
I've never had the problem of the machine blowing around the dirt instead of picking it up like other reviewers mentioned. Instead, it gets all the hairballs in the corners along with crumbs. Then I turn it over and treat it no differently than a mop, running it back and forth while I move backwards across the floor squeeging up the water as a go. By the time I reach the end of the floor, where I started is dry. In about 5 minutes the whole floor is dry and clean and I'm finished.
Yes, the stuff picked up by the vaccum side is comingled with the dirty water but really, it's not much different that what I used to find in my mop bucket. And it's kind of nice to think it's not like mopping where I'd be slopping that nastiness back onto my floor.
I love this little machine and it's been worth every one of those hundred dollars I spent on it.
Customer Review: Bissell says fix out for exhaust issue. Summary: 3 Stars
I have not purchased one yet. And I was not going to because of the problem identified by other reviewers about the exhaust blowing dirt away from the vacuum. I wrote to Bissell about this. They replied with the following:
"Based on Consumer Feedback such as you've included in the body of your letter, it has been determined that a thicker gasket is needed to reduce the force of the exhaust air.
This production change has been implemented and a repair kit is available at no charge for those machines manufactured prior to the design change."
I wonder if those who experienced this problem believe that the thicker gasket will fix the problem.
If I do buy one, I will report on my experience.
Update:
I bought one. I like it. The three stars I gave it was before I bought it (you have to enter something), and now I can't change it. Now, having used it I'd rate it 4 stars. It is not a powerful vacuum. But that is not the point of it. What it is is very convenient, compact, and lightweight. It allows me to clean my hardwood floors very quickly and without fuss. I find that some stuck-on food residue is more easily lifted using a rag and elbow grease. And the vacuum won't reach into the corners. But it does what I expect of it.
Oh... The thicker gasket Bissel added seams to have fixed the problem. I don't see it blowing away the dust bunnies.
Customer Review: Not as bad as others say... Summary: 4 Stars
I recently purchased the Flip It, without reading the other reviews. I was very excited to try this out as I do not clean my floors as often as I need to. I find it a pain in the [...] to pull out the vacuum (which is meant for carpet and does not do a very good job), then the swiffer to get everything that the vacuum missed, and then the floor steamer.
As a vacuum I think that it did a good job. I did not have the problem of everything blowing around and not getting sucked in. After vacuuming, I used the swiffer. I was happy to notice that there was not much on it. I also felt that the mopping would have picked up the dirt that the vacuuming did not.
I flipped it over to mop and this is when I had problems. Although it did a good job of cleaning my floors, my back ended up hurting. I think that it may have been a combination of the force you need to use to push the flip it (and since the brushes do not spin there is a lot of back and forth motion) and the height of the handle.
When I dumped the dirty water chamber, the water was dark. When I walked over my floors, they did feel clean. Overall, I think that the Flip It did a good job, but I will be returning it due to the pain in my back. For now the pain in my [...] will have to continue as the lesser of two evils.
Customer Review: My arm is numb after using this!! Summary: 2 Stars
I just got a portion of my house tiled aside from what was already tiled. I HATE to mop, hate it with a passion! So I figured this product would be a Godsend! Boy couldn't I have been any more wrong!
My friend has this exact model, I asked her if I could borrow it before I borrowed it. She told me that I would hate it, but brought it over anyway. Now I understand why none of our local stores (Target, Walmart, etc.) don't carry any of the Bissell flip it models, it's a POS!!!
Like a previous poster said, it pushes lint, dust and hair away, but at least it rolls smoothly over the tile and eventually picks it up once you have it against a wall. Now the dry side, my arm is numb from pushing this around, I can barely type this. It was so hard to push and pull it and this is tile, one would think it would glide across. I didn't think I was going to be able to finish up the job.
As much as I hate mopping, at least I'm not drenched in sweat along with a numb arm when I'm finished mopping. I might try the Hoover Hard floor cleaner. At least I can thank my lucky stars that I did not waste my money on this horrible product!
I gave it 2 stars because the dirty water did come out black, so I guess it at least cleaned, it was just way harder than it had to be.
Customer Review: Buyer Beware Summary: 1 Stars
I really am writing this because I am concerned about the favorable reviews on this product. It is interesting to me to see that those people who give this product 5 stars have reviews that read like company advertisements. What's more is that when you check to read the other products they've reviewed, the majority of them don't have any other than reviews of other Bissell products. Could Bissell be writing their own reviews? I wonder because those who give a negative review of this product talk about the pratical reasons why this product doesn't work for them. Those 5 star reviews just say things like wonderful, awesome, fabulous without REALLY explaining why they think so. I think in order to boost this products rating, a bunch of glowing comments had to be written.
Let me say that I don't own this product. In fact I had been confused as to whether or not I should spend the money. The truth is, I've been looking for a product like this for some time and have encountered the same problems while trying to decide. Some reviews that say these wet/dry cleaners are fabulous and others than say they stink. I can tell you this much, until I can feel like this product really is a good value, I'm not going to shell out the money. It's just too much money to waste.
