Tools and Hardware Reviews of BISSELL Little Green Multi-Purpose Compact Deep Cleaner, 1400-7

Customer Review: Nice little cleaner
Summary: 4 Stars

Ordered this thing as a birthday gift for my mother to use for cleaning the carpet in her truck. Ordered it late Tuesday evening and had it in my hands early Friday afternoon with free shipping thanks to Amazon Prime. I've been using it around the house for a couple of days now to make sure it works well. I felt like I was taking a fairly large risk after reading the reviews on it but I figured that I can always return it or sell it.

So far, I am pleased with the performance. Many people say that it doesn't have much suction and it leaves the carpet soaked. I found this not be the case with mine. It has plenty of power for its size. I cannot account for cleaning techniques used by others, but you must apply a good amount of pressure to make it work well. But lets face it, that's just how carpet cleaners work, the big carpet cleaners are heavy enough that you don't have to push down. This little things works just as well as my big machine when you apply enough pressure. It actually leaves the carpet a little dryer than the big machines I have used.

Others have also complained about the sprayer, saying that it sprays too much or too wide. I found that if I hold the cleaning head on the carpet like you are supposed to, it sprays a nice heavy stream that is only about a 1/2" wider than the cleaning head. So, if you wet and scrub the carpet first, and then hold the cleaning head flat on the carpet, pull the trigger, and pull the cleaner head across the carpet slowly, much in the way the instructions say to do it, the Little Green works very well.

I have not yet tried it in a vehicle yet, but it works very well on the carpet in my house, taking up stains that have been there for years. I also have not yet tried the cleaning solution that comes with the cleaner. So far I have had pretty good luck with just warm tap water. I also tried it in conjunction with Tuff Stuff, and the Little Green does a good job picking up the dirt left behind and any residual Tuff Stuff.

Updating my review about 9 months after my last review. The Little Green is still up and running. It has cleaned up many messes since I bought it. We have used it in vehicles and it does an incredible job. The carpet in my truck is 13 years old and the Little Green makes it almost like new. I have few complaints about the Little Green, which are almost not even worth mentioning since they are problems that occur with every wet vac on the planet. It does leak a little if things are set up quite right. Of course, anyone who can use a wet vac without spilling a little water deserves an olympic gold medal, a nobel prize, and probably a purple heart. It has kept its suction very well. The sprayer does crap out sometimes, but its easier to use a spray bottle anyway. I own a Rainbow vacuum and a big Bissell carpet cleaner and the little green still picks up dirt that both of those miss. Though I do wish that you could take the suction head apart for easier cleaning. Overall still a great cleaner, great for quickly getting up small spills. Also a great price.

Customer Review: Bissell Little Green
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had this portable carpet cleaner for probably 9 months or so now... and it really was the best investment that I've made, short of getting my full size Bissell.

Cat food barf leaves this nice orange/yellow tan stain which is next to impossible to get out of a pale champagne colored carpet. Spray on carpet cleaners from the store DO NOT WORK.... we were always left with pretty much a stain of the same color....usually more widespread because of the scrubbing...and also scrubbed DEEPER into the carpet fibers. Not a winning situation.

The Bissell Little Green almost completely removes the spot. Note, I said "ALMOST COMPLETELY REMOVES"... which is different than "removes completely and makes your carpet look and smell like it was just installed." Anyone wanting those kind of results needs to use a full size or better yet, call Stanley Steamer. This machine is infinitely easier to pull out to take care of the occasional messes... that happen with enough frequency that pulling out the full sized Bissell is a pain.

I've read the reviews where people complain about the water spraying 4-5 times wider than the nozzle head. I'm not suggesting that anyone is embellishing their complaints, but mine does not do this... it IS wider, by maybe an inch on either side, but with extra trips over the spot AND THE SURROUNDING AREA with the nozzle only sucking and not spraying nearly totally dries the carpet... where you can actually walk over the spot immediately and not feel like your socks have wicked up a gallon of water.

The suction is not equal to the amount of spray... which means that if you make one pass with the sprayer, that you will not be able to suck the whole amount of water back up with one pass. That's unrealistic... as my big boy doesn't do that either. The guys from Stanley might be able to do it with their big hose... but they need to move fast to make more money as they are PROFESSIONALS that will charge you more than the 69 bucks you might pay for this machine, which comes to pennies a use with a really barfy cat.

As far as the spot it removed... I would describe it as 98%+ lighter... and I follow the directions in the manual and PRE TREAT the stain by spraying the cleaner into the stain and then leaving it stand for a bit and then sucking it up. On tough and/or bigger stains, I do this 2-3 times... and still, it comes out looking really, really good in my opinion... and yes, you can see a hazy remnant of a stain in like DIRECT sunlight that is shining in JUST the right way, on JUST the right area... I have also used a little store spray spot cleaner and that seems to help with the pretreat process...BUT... It is DEFINITELY cleaner than just using a spray on cleaner and then waiting around until the next time the big machine comes out.

I am thrilled with this purchase.... it has made cleaning up after the cat (and the dog, kids and husband, not necessarily in that order) infinitely easier. It does EXACTLY what I expected it to do.

Customer Review: Little Green is HUGE!
Summary: 5 Stars

lemme start off by saying i originally bought the pet version (for about $20 more) but after reading reviews everywhere about how the heating element tends to blow out pretty soon, i decided to buy this version instead for about $69 @ walmart- definitely NO REGRETS!
bought it to clean up dog 'messes' and it works wonders! but just so that everyone is clear...it's not a shop vac! so when there was a mess, i actually cleaned it relatively well first BEFORE i used the little green on it and it took away ANY traces of stains/ smell/ discoloration...EVERYTHING. so i guess as a stain/ spot remover it works perfect! i found a few salt spots (normally the black marks on your carpet in heavy traffic areas- left from your shoes after coming in from the snow) and it took them right out!
so here's a quick breakdown that i hope helps make up your mind if you're on the fence:
PROS:
- LIGHT and easy to carry around (i think it's only about 10 pounds?) and the hose makes cleaning that much easier
- POWERFUL enough to clean thicker carpets too. again, i used it as a stain remover rather than a shop vac- so a pre-cleaning of the area prior to using the little green definitely helps results
- IDEAL SPOT REMOVER for things like pet messes, random 'phantom' spots on your carpet, juice spills, etc.
-

CONS:
- TIME to MAINTAIN/ CLEAN up the little green itself- can be a little cumbersome. i actually found myself cleaning the parts for about 10 minutes after only spending about 3 cleaning up the mess off the carpet with the little green...so it's not much of a time saver, but i'd rather spend more time cleaning up the parts to ensure that it lasts me longer!
- SPRAY is really odd. it's really wide and tends to kinda miss the area that it's meant to clean? takes some getting used to, but can be a little 'surprising' the first few times

as a final note i will say that this will NOT replace an upright carpet steam cleaner so DON'T try and use it to clean an entire room- you will most likely be disappointed.
it's a PERFECT stain/ spot remover INSTEAD of bringing out that heavy, clunky steamer in the event that your pet/ child/ drunk roomie has an accident. i'd still give it 5 stars only coz i'm willing to overlook how long it takes to clean it IF it does a good job removing the stains...and it does!

Customer Review: What a JOKE - doesn't even deserve 1 star!
Summary: 1 Stars

I had high hopes considering all the other rave reviews. This thing is garbage. I'd rather continue to hand scrub my tots messes than deal with this waste of money. Honestly, I read the manual and used it as instructed and it left my carpet soaked...really soaked and not clean.

I have both berber and plush carpet. The unit can't scrub clean the berber carpet and it can't suck up any of the water used to clean it. The unit can scrub clean the plush carpet...but be really careful because the brissles are stiff and will leave an obvious scrubbed spot in the carpet and ruin the pill; it does a better job of sucking up the water as compared to the berber carpet...but still pathetic.

I would estimate about only 10-20% of the water used to clean the plush carpet (0% with berber) ends up in the dirty water tank. So, all that water, solution and the mess being cleaned up just sinks into the padding below...gross!

I thought perhaps I had a defective unit so I called customer service and they put me through a series of tests to see if something was wrong. Nope, turns out this unit "works as it should", which is terrible.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.

Also, the clean water tank doesn't seal well so when you fill it with clean water and cleaning solution, some of the solution shoots out like a stream from a squirt gun from the spout as you tip it over to place it on the tank. Even more stupid, the tank has to be tipped upside down to fill and that surface is rounded and wont stand up on its own making filling difficult.

Another fault, the spray nosel is not at all adjustable and soaks a large area of carpet quickly, so if you have just a small sized stain to clean up, be prepared to over soak at least a square foot of your carpet and go through a lot of cleaning solution quickly.

This unit does not save time nor clean better than just using something simple like Resolve carpet cleaner with a few washclothes. Huge disappointment and waste of money. How this even got to market is a mystery to me.

This unit doesn't even deserve 1 star!

Customer Review: Nice little unit but be careful of the waste tank bottom seal
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this just a couple of days ago and had the opportunity to finally use it courtesy of one of our dogs.

I used the Bissell brand pet cleaning solution and it worked really well. It was quite easy to use, the suction is very good. I first sprayed the area where our dog had uriniated then after a few minutes I vacuumed up the liguids. I kept going for quite a bit until I could no longer see fluids moving through the transparent head. While the carpet was still slightly damp, I could detect no urine odor which has not been the case with other products I have tried to use. So far so good.

The real problem occurred when I attempted to clean the waste water tank. The unit removes easily enough and the way it is shaped forms a nice little handle with a spout on top to empty the contents. I dumped the tank outside and then decided to go back inside and run some clean water in the tank intending to wash it out and dump it outside again. That is when it happened. As I was walking toward my front door from the sink with the half full tank the bottom seal unexpectedly fell out and dumped the entire contents of dirty water on my carpet. What a mess! The manual says nothing about this and in fact doesnt really say much other than to dump the tank, not very helpful.

My only other complaint, and for me it is not a huge issue, is that the spray pattern is extremely wide. I guess if you were cleaning a large area this would be a good thing but for me I have a bigger steam cleaning unit for bigger areas and intend to use this only for small spot cleanups. Like I say it is not a huge issue but it does end up getting a larger area wet than is needed even if you hold the nozzle close to the floor. Others may consider this an advantage.

Otherwise this unit works really well, has strong suction, not extremely noisy and is very easy to use, pack up and put away.

Were it not for the issue with the bottom plug on the waste tank I would have rated this higher but I feel at a minimum they should warn people about this problem.
