Tools and Hardware Reviews of BISSELL Little Green Multi-Purpose Compact Deep Cleaner, 1400-7

Customer Review: It does exactly what it was designed to
Summary: 5 Stars

So my husband and I were looking for a compact carpet cleaner to take out some black spots that were showing on our apartment's carpet. Most compact cleaners on here have less than stellar reviews but the Bissell Little Green Deep Cleaner had the most promising reviews. So we picked one up at a local store and brought it home and tried it out. As the package would imply the thing is 99% assembled, all you do is attach two hose holders and fill the tank up and go. The nozzle does spray wide if you hold it away from the carpet but if you scrub the carpet as you dispense the solution it barely sprays wider than the nozzle. Despite what people have said here, I actually find the wide spray to be sort of handy. Unless you are trying to remove a toothpick sized stain, it makes things go a little bit quicker. Dispense the solution over a moderately sized area, scrub, and go over it a few times to suck up the water.

Which brings me to my next problem with the negative reviews here. If I placed a little pressure on the head of the nozzle, you could see it was sucking up a LOT of water. I've used full sized carpet cleaners and even those you need to put pressure on to REALLY get all the water out. If you put a little elbow grease in to it, it works wonders with the type of stains it was designed to take care of. If you pretend it is a magic wand that will wish away all your stains, you might be a little disappointed.

Basically take all of these negative reviews with a grain of salt. The solution dispenser worked as I would have expected it to. If you wave it around 6 inches over the carpet, yeah it sprays wide. Who knew? If you put a little elbow grease into the nozzle it sucks up more liquid than I would have expected it to. It isn't a genie in a bottle, you actually have to put a little work into it. And the result is a $70 compact cleaner that does a pretty darn good job.

Customer Review: Handy For Spot Cleaning
Summary: 5 Stars

We got this little gem to help clean up after a precocious little puppy who has yet to get the hang of the house-training program. Having her 100% trained is the best idea, obviously. In the mean time, until she gets it down, this small, portable machine is perfect for spot-cleaning, even when more than once a day.

This machine also works very nicely on upholstery in the home, automobile, motorhome etc. Just about any color-fast fabric. It cleans well, while remaining gentle and non-destructive to the fabric.

It is portable, light-weight, easy to fill, easy to use and easy to clean. The integrated cleaning brush is durable and looks to last a long time. There is no motor for the brush. It works like any scrub brush; back and forth by hand, in between spray applications and vacuumn removal. The narrow vacuumn nozzle, also integrated into the all-in-one cleaning head, stays on throughout the process, but only sucks up the dirty solution when cleaning is complete and the cleaning head is tilted up to place the collection nozzle down onto the affected area. With a few passes the cleaned area is indeed very clean, and practically dry. The whole process works very well, and very efficiently.

Removable tanks for new solution and dirty clean-up water pop on and off easily for re-filling, rinsing and cleaning. The seals seem to do a good job of preventing leaks. We use it with Bissel Pet Odor and Stain Cleaning solution, (available for a competitive price on Amazon), but it will work with any carpet cleaning solution made for "Steam Extraction" or hot water carpet cleaning spray and vacuumn machines.

The price is right, and Amazon had it to us very quickly, sealed in the original packaging with excellent directions. I can recommend this machine to anyone looking for a low-maintenance spot cleaner for carpets or upholstery.

Customer Review: Ready to use right out of the box
Summary: 4 Stars

It comes with a little bottle of cleaner and is ready to use right out of the box. You can get two tanks from one little bottle, and refills can be obtained online, and I have gotten refills at target. Most cleaners work in it, but look for the name little green on the bottle to be sure. The nice part is you can keep it loaded with soap and ready to use.

The suction is good. The sprayer does spray a large area great for carpets, if you have a small area hold it closer. I wanted the one with the warmer, but the reviews said the soap gets overheated and sticks.

This little green machine works great. We have a glider that had stains from when our kids were babies and the little green machine took them right out. It looks brand new. I was shocked to see that 4 year old baby stains came right out. Now that glider is going out to the yard sale next week. Stain free it will sell for more, probably double.

I have used this on my car and it works great!

With pets or little kids is worth the money.

Things to remember
1. It has a very nice design. If something is hard for you to open... then you are doing it wrong. (eg. Swivel pegs for cord and hose)
2. If it stops working the dirty water is full. Just pour it in the toilet and rinse with clean water and you are ready to go.
3. The dirty water seal (top seal) must be closed for the unit to work. That is what creates the suction.
4. For smaller areas, hold the sprayer close.
5. The soap holder when full will drip when you put it in the unit, that is normal...be quick.
6. Follow the directions, they help.

Customer Review: Great overall, with a few drawbacks.
Summary: 4 Stars

When I purchased my new sofa, I knew immediately that I wanted to get an upholstery cleaner to keep it looking new as long as possible. We have 2 small children and a cat, so I knew spills were inevitable. When the vivid green icing from my son's first birthday cake ended up on the khaki sofa cushion, I knew it was time to purchase. I came on Amazon and, after reading reviews, I settled on this one.

I'v used it a few times now and have been consistantly pleased with the cleaning performance. The aforementioned grass-green frosting came out, even having to wait over the weekend for shipping. We've cleaned coffee, soda and baby messes up with it so far and haven't been let down yet. It uses very little solution in proportion to the water tank, so the little bottle that comes with it is good for 3 or 4 cleanings before you have to buy more. It also smells nice, without being overpowering.

Now for the drawbacks: As others have mentioned, the spray is a lot wider than you'd anticipate when looking at the nozzle. Not a huge deal, but it takes some getting used to. The biggest issue is that, when we stored it with the cleaning solution still in the tank, it leaked all over our floor! We tried making sure the cap was tightened a bit more the next time, but it did the same thing. We'll be storing it without the solution in it from now on. I don't mind too much, because I'd like to use fresh hot water for each batch anyway. I just don't like the potential waste if I don't use up all the solution when cleaning.

Overall, a great buy that will see lots of use in my kid-friendly home. :)

Customer Review: An alternative cleaning method
Summary: 2 Stars

Today I purchased the Bissell Little Green Machine. Unfortunately I purchased it before I read these reviews here at Amazon. Ditto to all those people who wrote that it sprays to far out and doesn't have enough suction. I had a small section on the arm of my chair I wanted to clean. You know the kind of build up that you get from people resting their hands on a chair. I filled the reservoir and quickly went to work. I'm the kind of person who doesn't mind putting a little elbow grease into a situation but 30 min. later I had a soaked and semi-clean chair. I can't say that it didn't work because I guess it did to some extent but the whole arm of may chair was soaked. I ended up using a towel on one end of the vacuum brush to keep the fluid from shooting out across my carpet. I also had to use a towel to soak up the excess cleaning fluid when the Little Green couldn't do it. The chair arm was so wet that when it dried it left a water mark. The arm of my chair is somewhat cleaner but it just smells like the cleaning fluid now. And yes I read and followed all directions. I finally took a plastic spray bottle I had purchased a few days earlier and poured the cleaning fluid into it. That way I could at least control where the fluid went. That did help and maybe it will help some of you as well. I sprayed just a small section and used the hose to suck it up. It's an alternative anyway. I will be taking this little baby back to the store I purchased it from and then save my pennies until I can buy a better quality machine.
