Tools and Hardware Reviews of BISSELL Little Green Multi-Purpose Compact Deep Cleaner, 1400-7

Customer Review: A few issues, but nice overall
Summary: 4 Stars

Let's put the good out there first:

-I love the sustainability factor. Bissell has done a great job with packaging, manufacturing, and recycling. Definitely was a big factor in our decision to purchase this particular machine.

-Compact and portable.. Fits into a small closet easily. It's not heavy or bulky.

-Cleans up the spills/messes in no time.

-It cleans upholstery really well.

The not-so-good:

-The machine STINKS. Like literally smells. We empty the machine after each use, but it still has this horrible odor that we can't get rid of, because the containers can't be opened and cleaned. You can rinse them with water (kinda), but can't actually open them up.

-The hose clogs. No matter how much I vacuum before using it, after a few uses the hose gets clogged with hair.

I would be much happier if I could actually clean the hose and the waste container. Overall though, I'm satisfied for the price. Nice, green product.

Customer Review: Nice
Summary: 3 Stars

Given the rave reviews, I had expected a bit more out of this product. My carpet is light gray, so just about everything shows. It does clean up most spots with a varying degree of repeated applications, but there are those that it just doesn't have much of an effect on. (My cats have a tendency to cough up some hairballs that come with food stains--salmon is especially tenacious. One of them somehow manages to get the hairball-prevention goop from her paw onto the carpet in small amounts. Surprisingly, the cleaner does quite well in getting those up when they do not respond to the Oxy Deep spray method.) I do like that I can clean smaller high traffic areas, such as the transition areas from the carpet to the tiled rooms (kitchen, bathroom) to help keep them fresh. I have purchased a different cleaning solution, supposedly of a higher cleaning ability, so perhaps that will remedy those spots that are less responsive to the sample that came with the unit.

It's easy to use and clean and fairly portable.

Customer Review: How to wet a small spot, and GET RID OF THE WIDE SPRAY!
Summary: 3 Stars

This machine is designed to guzzle bottles of Bissell Cleaner, but you can get around this!

Turn the machine OFF. Raise it above the spot you want to clean, either holding it or sitting it on a chair or higher step.

Lower the nozzle right over your spot, press the spray button, and gravity will drip the liquid as small as a dime to quarter size spot. Let it soak a few minutes, turn the machine back on and vacuum the liquid up.

Do saturate the spot well, then with the machine on press down without scrubbing too much and vacuum up as much of the liquid up as you can. Repeating, if necessary, will continue to lighten the stain. Vacuum it as dry as possible each time to pull out the stain.

There is also no reason you have to use the machine to hold and dispense your cleaning mix. You could use a bottle that squirts a narrow stream of liquid if you want to hit only small spots. After you've let it set a few minutes then use the machine to vacuum up the liquid.

Customer Review: Terrible Suction
Summary: 1 Stars

Usually, when a product is hovering around 4 stars, I skim the bad reviews and assume those were from defective products or grumpy users, but its true; this thing has terrible suction.

I bought this to spot clean my cream microfiber sofa which had a lot of very simple dirt stains. The spray is very wide, but that was actually good for going over cushions quickly. The water it did pick up was nasty and dirty, so the brush/solution combo is doing something, but the problem is that it picked up less than 1/5 of the water/solution that went down.

I went through the manual and there is a section on troubleshooting poor suction. I tried everything recommended with no dice - I removed and tightened everything I could find on the dirty tank, but that did not help either.

I tried several different angles and levels of pressure with the wand to no avail, and I finally had to go get my big wet vac.

I will be looking for another machine.

Customer Review: Wonderful All-Purpose Cleaner
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this cleaner as an alternative to paying $250 to have my furniture cleaned. I thought it was a good buy since I can use it again and again, and have been really pleased with it. It is easy to put together, and I have used it so far to clean all my couches and chairs, some grease-stained car upholstery, a couple of puppy accidents, and a very musty-smelling Turkish rug. It cleans well and is relatively easy to use, and both the Little Green and Pet formulas smell fresh but not cloying. The wide spray issue is kind of irritating at first, but after a few minutes of practice you learn not to fully depress the spray button so that only small bursts of spray come out.

Post-cleaning cleanup is also relatively easy. You can just rinse out the tanks with some hot water (though definitely hold the cleaner over a sink before removing either tank, just in case). I would highly recommend this product to anyone who wants to have a good spot-cleaner on hand.
