Tools and Hardware Reviews of BISSELL Natural Sweep Dual Brush Sweeper, 92N0ACustomer Review: A good sweeper that requires some patience. Summary: 4 Stars
I actually wanted to purchase a different Bissell sweeper model, but this is the only one that I could find for sale in my town, so I gave up and bought it. I saved my receipt because I expected that I would want to return it.
First of all, the instructions for assembly are printed in light green on the inside flap of the box. I followed them and it assembled very quickly. The handle is made of several tapered metal tubes that have to be nested inside one another. I put a newspaper down on our brick hearth and really jammed that handle down to secure the tapered tubes. They went together really snugly. I can't pull them apart now if I wanted to, and they are easily hefty-enough to handle the initial abuse. Then you just screw the handle onto the cleaning head, being careful to secure it tightly, and it's ready to go.
I have three kids - 8, 6, and 1. There are food particles on my floor all the time. I bought the sweeper to take over for my broom which gets used about six times daily. At first I was really dissappointed with it's performance on my linoleum floor. It didn't pick up anything. The cheerios just got pushed around. I flipped it over and realized that the brush rollers are positioned up off of the floor slightly, to accommodate carpet pile. However, the wheels are able to flex up into the sweeper body, so I decided to try it again, pushing down on the handle firmly to ensure contact between the sweeper rolls and the linoleum. Presto! It works like a charm, and picks up everything.
I have been using it now for several days, and I have definitely decided to keep it. It's "loosening up" a bit, and really works well. It won't replace my broom for more detailed cleaning, but I love the time it saves me for keeping things tidy. Last night it picked up about a half-cup of sticky angel hair pasta from under the high chair.
Customer Review: Perfect for SMALL messes Summary: 5 Stars
I absolutely love this little sweeper. It's lightweight,earth-friendly,and effective.I have put my Swivel Sweeper away because it isn't as good as the Natural Sweep.
I have to vacuum every day because I have a puppy and a husband who constantly make small messes (and sometimes big ones). This is PERFECT for me when I don't feel like lugging out the heavy vacuum cleaner. I use it every single day, multiple times a day. It works on carpets and bare floors. Just out of curiosity, I tried using it on other surfaces like my sofa, but it didn't work as well. It picks up almost everything, but be warned it is for SMALL messes. I wouldn't recommend it for larger items like cereal or leaves. This sweeper is not meant for that. It is meant for crumbs, dust bunnies, soft and small things, pet hair (short) and other tiny messes. I don't know why anyone would use this to replace an electric vacuum cleaner. Clearly, the electric version is going to be superior in all ways. This is just for maintenance in my opinion. I use my electric vacuum cleaner once a week, but in between vacuuming, I use this and it keeps my floors sparkling.
As for pet hair, it works for me since I have a short-haired dog, but I can't say if would pick up long pet hairs since I have no experience with it. The only thing it has trouble picking up are the strings that come from dog toys.
Assembly was a snap and it hasn't given me any problems. In one month, the handle came off only once and I put it right back on with no problems. It really doesn't bother me at all. Many reviewers have expressed many negative feelings toward this and I personally do not blame them. But I haven't had any problems with mine.
Customer Review: Not recommended Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased the Natural Sweep to clean up the constant accumulation of German Shepherd hair we have in our house, as well as dirt that people track into our entryway. However, despite following the instructions in assembly, the handle keeps coming off of the machine, due to a loose plastic grommet. Once I do use the machine, it works much better on smooth surfaces than carpet, where the driver wheels tend to slip and result in the brushes not spinning. Once you start to use the machine, it rapidly fills its interior spaces with pet hair and stops collecting. If you empty the little trays on either side, there is still pet hair caught inside the brushes and behind them, so the machine won't start to pick up again after an emptying unless you reach in to the tiny spaces with your pinky and coax the hair out. Even when it is freshly cleaned it still occasionally deposits a little dust bunny of pet hair in its wake, which you have to go over again to pick up.
10 years ago there used to be some real choice in manual sweepers, but this was the only one I could find. I'd better than nothing, but barely so. Then again, you would need an expensive full-power vacuum to get the pet hair any other way. (Don't try the Roomba!)
Customer Review: Would not purchase this again Summary: 1 Stars
I got this as a gift from my mom after I mentioned that I was looking for a cordless sweeper. Overall, I am not pleased with it. I have to sweep one area several times before it will pick up some particles, like small pieces of paper. But, as the other reviews state, it is good at picking up hair. This is also a bit noisier than I expected...it makes a screetching noise as I sweep. I had a similar sweeper years ago that picked up so much more and was much quieter. The other reviews comment that it is very quiet so perhaps I just got a faulty one. Fortunately, my mom bought it at a local store and kept the receipt so I can take it back. Bottom line...I wouldn't recommend it.
12/25/09 Update: I decided to try this product for a few more days ....well, like the other reviews said, the handle comes off so easily. I spend more time trying to reattach the handle than I spend using the product. It is really frustrating. I initially gave this 3 stars but I am changing my rating to 1 star. I will be taking it back tomorrow.
Customer Review: Read The Assembly Instructions and You Wont Have a Problem Summary: 4 Stars
Having used one of these years ago, I figured that, for the money, this was worth a try. With a newly crawling baby, two cats, a dog, and two adolescent girls, this would seem a good way to keep the floor and rug where my daughter crawls around clean. Since it is human powered and light-weight, it is ideal for quick cleanups without the hassle of cords, noise, or dust. On floors and rugs it has done well, picking up as well as a broom and much more conveniently.
As for the complaints of other reviewers regarding the handle: Read the Assembly instructions! The instructions clearly state that after the pieces are assembled, but before they are screwed on, they should be driven into place by striking down on a hard surface (Covered to prevent marring). This will drive the tapered sections together firmly. If you follow the directions on the box, the handle is not a problem.
My only complaint so far is the ability to clean into corners could be improved, but for the cost, I'm still very pleased.
