Tools and Hardware Reviews of BISSELL PROdry Fast-Drying Carpet Cleaner, 7350Customer Review: An Unexpected Blessing!! Summary: 5 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Yes, I know this is a strange title...but let me explain by prefacing my remarks with the report that this Bissell Carpet Cleaner does a great job of cleaning upholstery! However, I had put it aside for the time being after that project finished as my carpet was not yet in need of cleaning.
The "unexpected" happened, however! Last weekend a water pipe burst & our finished & lovely guest bedroom (in the basement)was suddenly leaking water from the ceiling & down the walls, pouring down on the bed & saturated my carpets in several rooms. After we turned off the house water, hauled out all furniture, including a thoroughly soaked bed & mattress, I grabbed my new Bissell & started a 2 hour job of sucking up the water from the very soggy carpet in several rooms. (No place could I have found a rental on a Saturday night & here I had my Bissell just a few feet away!!) It did a wonderful job of helping us extract some 40 gallons of water from 2 rooms of carpeting plus the hallway.
When the restoration company arrived this morning, they didn't even need to use their high powered extractor. Yes, the carpet was still damp, but easy to remove & proceed. When they left today carpeting was being dried out & all moving along better than expected. My Bissell Carpet Cleaner was indeed a blessing which prevented deeper damage in my rooms and was a jewel to work with, and just to tell you, when I use it as a Carpet Cleaner, I most definitely will add to my review & tell you how it functioned. In the meantime, this unexpected use of the extractor portion of my Bissell, most certainly had a role in keeping my mess & loss at a minimum & final cleanup much quicker, for which I'm most grateful!
Update 17 July 2009 We continue to be pleased with the performance of this Bissell. My son borrowed it along with the tools it comes with & it did a great job of cleaning his van's carpeting (which had lots of tracking with 4 teens in & out during long snowy winters)as well as the upholstery. Incidentally, the Bissell orange cleaner is a winner as well. We are delighted with this carpet cleaner & its versatility with so many included tools!
Customer Review: More of a Carpet Refresher than a Deep Cleaner. Summary: 3 Stars

The Bissell PRODry carpet cleaner's unique feature is the TLR (for Traps, Lifts, Removes) Power Roller on the unit. Instead of having a traditional beater bar or rotating brushes it uses a spinning roller. The Power Roller is very similar to a paintbrush roller, just that the Power Roller is thicker. The advantage is that the carpets dry in less than 30 minutes since instead of spraying the cleaner directly onto the carpet it is sprayed on the roller. My carpets were dry within 30 minutes, and I was able to put the furniture back and vacuum them much quicker than usual. My Hoover SpinBrush carpet cleaner saturated the carpets a lot more, and took over 2 hours to dry completely in some spots. Advantage: Bissell.
As far as actual cleaning ability, the PRODry disappoints. Now, my carpets are never particularly dirty to begin with, but when I dumped out the Bissell's dirty water tank it was just slightly gray. In comparison, whenever I use the Hoover SpinBrush the dirty water comes out almost black. If I did not have the Hoover to compare it with, I would say that the Bissell works well, however, since I know how much more dirt the Hoover extracts I can't say that. The Bissell seems to clean just the very top of the carpet while the Hoover cleans down much deeper. I guess that's the disadvantage to the quick drying time, so little cleaner is put down that not much dirt comes up. Advantage: Hoover.
The machine itself is very easy to use and come with two hand tools, and has a switch to easily go from the carpet to the tools. It's very easy to assemble, nicely constructed, does not drip or leak much water, and the tanks are very easy to fill and place on the machine. It's also fairly quiet in operation. It's no louder than a regular upright vacuum.
All in all... carpets dry very quickly, but it's at the expense of deep cleaning. For really deep cleaning your carpets look into a Hoover SpinBrush machine (you can check my reviews for the Hoover I use).
Customer Review: maintenance and stain removal Summary: 4 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Packaged in stiff cardboard, inside minimal package waste. Box has easy lift handles. Comes almost assembled. Attach handle and hose holder with 4 screws that come in a bag attached to the handle. 2 screws go in the handle below holes for hose attachment, needs a long necked screw driver for that.
I like the latch for holding the hose in place, nice feature. You can go from floor cleaner to hand held attachment with a flip of a dial, so spot scrubbing is easy without wrestling changing an attachment. The paint roller type head really grooms the carpet fibers, and they do dry fast. I am not sure if that is from the cleaning solution or the fact that it uses very little water. One head attachment has an oxy2 detergent dispenser. Runs quieter then any other carpet machine I have owned, handles like a vacuum, powerful enough it tries to pull you forward as it scrubs. I tried it on many carpets, a think older carpet where it was able to pull up some older stains, fluffed and dried quickly. A new Berber short looped carpet that it had trouble on as the shorter fibers caused it to jump around a bit. Last but not least older level carpet with attached pad, wow what a difference it did on the stairs, long hose and the carpet almost looks brand new. The hose was easy to clean I just ran water in the sink into a bowl and sucked it up till the hose was clean, you can tell because the hose is clear. Filling and draining is quick with pop on and off containers. Now if you have really old or really dirty carpet, I would have a professional come and clean or get new carpet. But for maintenance and stain removal, this is a good little machine. I also used it on the couch, one spot I had tried to clean with a different machine that just soaked it, and this Bissell pulled up the stain and the cleaning solution.
Customer Review: Should be called "Make My Carpet Damp Machine" Summary: 2 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Others have panned this product as being pretty worthless. I had read a few reviews before I tried the machine myself, and felt that it can't be all that bad. Unfortunately it mostly is.
I haven't ever used another carpet cleaner so I don't have much to compare this with. However I do have carpets with a few light spots, and that are probably slightly dirty. I filled up the container like I was supposed to, and ended up splashing water on the floor attaching it to the machine. Start up the machine, and start using it. Essentially what this does, is spray some water with a cleaning solution in it on a roller, which gets the carpet wet and lifts the stains, and then a powerful suction pulls some of the water out of the carpet. In theory that sounds good, except for the roller doesn't actually do much besides make the carpet damp. I could make spots go away if I went back and forth a lot (even using the attachments didn't work all that well). I tried it on the tile floor also, and it worked ok, I don't think it would be good at getting anything besides dust/dirt up off the floor.
So why did I give this two stars if it's so horrible. Well, when I went to empty the 'empty' container, the water was slightly dirty. Not much, but I guess it was doing something after all, just not nearly enough.
It seems other Bissell cleaners without the 'fast dry' feature work much better, and they aren't much more. It seems like a no brainer to go with one of those instead.
Customer Review: Bissell Drops the Ball on This One Summary: 2 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I am normally a huge fan of Bissell products. I own a Bissell "Liftoff" bagless vac Bissell 37601 Lift-Off Revolution Turbo Upright Bagless VacuumI also own a conventional Bissell carpet cleanerBissell 9500 ProHeat 2X CleanShot Upright Deep Cleaner, Red Berends and I couldn't be happier with both, but I'm afraid the PROdry just didn't live up to the Bissell name.
Putting the cleaner together was easy and straight forward (just two screws). All the parts fit snugly and the seals were tight and didn't leak.
Unlike a traditional deep carpet cleaner with brushes, the PROdry uses what looks for all the world like a deep knap paint roller. It uses traditional shampoo and water but much less of it. While this does allow the carpet to dry much faster, it doesn't effectively get down between the carpet fibers to clean.
The carpet we tried it on had several heavily soiled areas. After making several passes with the PROdry, some of the surface dirt transfered to the roller, but the soil on the sides of the individual strands wasn't touched. As soon as we finished the carpet looked basically the same.
It may be possible that this cleaner could have some value for keeping new carpet clean, but for older carpet or heavy stains, try another Bissell product.
