Tools and Hardware Reviews of BISSELL Remanufactured SpotBot Hands-Free Compact Deep Carpet Cleaner, 1200R

Customer Review: Works well, nice and compact
Summary: 5 Stars

While the SpotBot will not take the place of a full-size carpet cleaner, it is a wonderful tool for the small messes, especially pet-related ones. By the time you get the full size cleaner out and ready, you could have been done with the SpotBot.

I was a bit concerned about ordering a remanufactured one, but it looks brand new. Came with a full size bottle of the Oxy cleaner (not the trial size) plus a trial size of the general cleaner.

One thing to keep in mind is that the motor on this is only 3 amp (vs 10 to 12 for a full size cleaner) so it does not have a super strong suction. It's effective, but the carpet will be left damp when you're done. You can minimize this by using the hand wand after the main brush is done to get more liquid out, or use a towel to blot up the excess moisture. It does not leave the carpet soaking wet, but it will be damp when done.

I find it best to put the cleaning solution directly on the stain/mess, and use just clean water in the water dispensing container. Seems to work better and uses less cleaning solution.

Haven't tried it out in the car yet, but this should be perfect for cleaning up messes there as well.

As with any carpet cleaner, be sure to test a small section first to see how the carpet reacts to the cleaning solution. Several of the reviews point to issues that are not the fault of the machine, but rather how the carpet itself reacts to certain cleaning solutions.

The only difficulty I've had is in cleaning the waste water container. Hard to flush it out -- a access hole on the side would be nice, provided it could be made water tight. It's workable as-is, but cleaning the container takes more time than it should.

I'll give it 5 stars, but 4.5 would be a more accurate rating.

Customer Review: Buyer beware!!!!!

I purchased this unit last August. We were having issues with an elderly cat and a new puppy. Having read the description and reviews I was excited that this would be the perfect solution. I had previously been using a large hoover carpet cleaner whenever we had an accident, which now was occurring far to often.

The first time I used the unit I put it on automatic and walked away. It appeared to be working like advertised. When the unit was finished I went to pick it up and to my surprise it had tied itself tightly to the carpet. The units lifter bar, a plastic bar that that lifts and rotates the SpotBot in a circular pattern had caught several loops of carpet and started to twist them around the unit. This was an expensive short loop carpet and this thing ruined a 2-3 inch circle of it. I was furious but I figured it could be an isolated incident and do to the type of carpeting. I figured I still could use the unit as a hand held cleaner. I used it as such 2-3 times in the coming weeks before our cat passed away.

So the SpotBot stayed in the garage. I finally had an opportunity to use it again last week so I got it out. The thing would not even startup. I would get a power light but nothing else. It's been about 120 days since I purchased it and looking at other reviews I figure I'm out of luck on the warranty. I would not recommend this unit at all and I personally would not purchase from Bissell again. Unfortunately the SpotBot is going in the trash this weekend probably where it belonged from the beginning. I suspect that the reason for the supply of refurbished units has more to do with a badly designed unit than anything else...

Customer Review: Very, very nice!
Summary: 4 Stars

I got this because I have pets and need to clean the carpet often. While I wasn't too thrilled with the leave it cleaning and come back to a missing spot feature, I have to say that the attachment does wonders! Hence the 4-star review.

Cons:

- If you are using it as a spot cleaner that you just leave alone, you may be disappointed. The area it cleans when set that way is very small and I could still see the stains a bit.

- If you don't have the patience to use the handheld attachment and work on the stains youself, you may be disappointed.

- Ok, this is a new one that I hadn't experienced until recently... Whenever you use the machine, make sure you use all the cleaning mixture added to it. If you try to store it with liquids still in it, it will leak.

Pros:

- Well, the great news is that if you are willing to carry the little guy around and clean stuff using the attachment, it works really, really well! And it's not really a pain to do so.

- Light weight.

- Easy to figure out (if you, like me, refuse to read manuals)! :)

- Great for cleaning carpet and upholstery.

- Nice and compact, great for storage. All pieces attach to it, so you don't lose parts.

- Although it is a remanufactured item, I have owned it for a few months and haven't had any problems.

All things considered, I love this little machine! Hope you get to enjoy it as much as I do. :)

With a cat, inside dog and baby this machine is ideal. I use it on a daily basis. I originally purchased the remanufactured model, after 5 months the brushes stopped moving on it but the wand attachment still worked. That day my son was sick and I must have cleaned up 10 spots with it using the deep clean method, needless to say I put this machine to its test. I was so upset when it stopped working. I called amazon who gave me the bissell number. Bissell replaced the spotbot with a one of the pet versions even though it was remanufactured and well past the 90 day warranty period. The exchange was easy, they sent me a UPS label, I had to cut off the cord to my spotbot and mail it back. In about 10 days I had the pet version of the spotbot delivered via UPS. I do not like my newer spotbot. It leaks all the time. I can't leave cleaning solution in the one side or the closet floor I store it in ends up soaked. When I called bissell to report my problem their answer was that the directions state to not store the spotbot with the cleaning stuff in the container. Uhh, what am I supposed to do with it? I then switched containers with the original spotbot I had... have I confused you yet?... and it still leaked. So, $90 later I have two broken spotbots.

With this said, it has gotten every spot I have tried it on out of the carpet.

Ohh and I disagree with another posters comment about it taking 24 hours to dry. I find both of mine left the carpet very dry.

i bought this product and received the blue "spotbot pet." first and foremost: chose "free super saver shipping" and got it in 2 days! ordered on 10/21 in the afternoon and on 10/23 it was sitting at my front door when i got home.

now, about the product: i love it! yes, it's loud, but it doesn't run for too long. the bristles on my bissell upright are full of carpet fibers and cat hair, even though i vacuum first. this item uses a hard plastic piece between the bristles to help lift out the stain, so the bristles are soft and don't seem to accumulate pet hair and carpet fibers. i like the design of the hose being part of the suction system. to use the manual feature you unplug it and pop the brush onto it. everything is securely stored on the unit. it's kind of heavy, but you do want some heft to it otherwise it wouldn't be effective at penetrating the stain.

i have not been able to clean up hairball stains due to an injured foot, so i had several spots that needed some attention. i set the unit on them, pushed a button and sat down. the only thing i don't like is the alert that the cycle has finished does not stop until you press the stop button. it'd be cool if it stopped after 5 minutes. otherwise it seems to do a great job on stains, as long as they're not more than 6" in diameter! it is a little loud, but the cycles are short enough that it's not horrible.

all in all i love it, except the incessant beeping!
