Customer Review: Rescued our carpet
Summary: 5 Stars

We adopted a troubled dog from a rescue program earlier this year. The little guy had been pretty badly abused and while he's making great strides he continues to engage in "submissive urination." You can imagine the effect that this had on the carpet in our home. The constant scrubbing was a real pain in the neck. A very expensive carpet cleaning from one of those companies touting their "dead sea salts" really didn't work very well at all, and even if it had we couldn't keep spending that kind of money. This product rescued our carpet from the "rescued" dog.

When one of my wife's co-workers (who serves as a foster person for rescue dogs and has several in her home at any given time) recommended a spot bot to her I was skeptical. My wife's a clean freak and is constantly bringing home products like this. We have nearly every kind of floor or carpet device known to man, including two other Bissels that we haven't been thrilled with. But I was desperate enough to give it a try and grabbed one off of Amazon. It turned out to be one of the best purchases ever. To my amazement, the thing actually works really well. It's extremely simple to use . . . just fill the tank, drop it on the accident spot, plug it in, and decide whether you want a surface or a deep clean. You hit the button and walk away. When it's done you're left with a damp circular impression on the carpet as the only evidence of the accident. The beep it makes when finished is a bit annoying, but it reminds us to pick it up and put it away so the damp spot can air out and dry.

As I said, we have two other Bissell's - a small hose type portable unit that doesn't work all that well (or at all, really), and a much larger, more expensive unit that does a so-so job and is a pain in the neck to use and an even bigger pain to take apart and clean afterward. The spot bot does a much (Much!) better job than either of those. When it finishes there is no sign of soiling and no residual odor. We've used it on more conventional jobs like tracked in mud, etc., and it has not disappointed.

We've had it a few months now. If it holds up over time this will likely qualify as the best purchase of this kind we've ever made.

Customer Review: saved my car upholstery!
Summary: 5 Stars

In a hurry to get my dog to her vet appointment on time yesterday, I put her right in the back seat of my car, skipping my usual step of putting down a blanket. Halfway there, I caught a whiff of a horrible, horrible smell and knew what had happened before I even turned around. Even the smell could not prepare me for what I saw when I DID turn around.

It looked like my dog had not pooped for a week, and the result was smeared all over my light beige cloth seats. Not firm stools, not a couple of little piles ... it was a disaster.

I cleaned up as much as I could at the vet's office with paper towels, left my dog there for her procedure, and went straight to an auto detailer. They seemed amused that I would even suggest they take on such a task.

Next stop, my local big-box store to figure out what I could buy to clean this up as well as I could. I had already called my husband crying because I was going to have to get my car reupholstered. I just wanted to get it cleaned up well enough to be able to stand to drive it in the meantime.

There were only a couple of small shampooing-type machines. This one had "pet" in the name, and this was definitely an epic-sized pet mess, so I lugged it out to my smelly car and got home as quickly as possible.

My husband had left his office and had arrived home to survey the damage by the point. He read the directions while I quickly put water in the machine and got started. Using the large brush on the bottom was not going to be a good option for the nooks and crannies in the back seat, so I turned on the machine and held my hand up to the manual attachment to see how much suction it could managed. It seemed pretty wimpy, but I went to work.

With a first pass of just water using the manual attachment, then hitting the seats with an enzyme cleaner, then finishing off with another pass using the manual attachment and adding the sample cleaners to the water, I am happy to report that we COMPLETELY cleaned the mess. There is not even a hint of a stain.

Now I can't wait to try out the automatic settings on the stains our other dog has left on the carpets in the house!

Customer Review: WOW - I LOVE THIS THING!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have 3 dogs and 3 cats, and my 2 year old wall to wall stainmaster carpet (which cost me a couple thousand dollars) was a disaster! Housebreaking is always a challenge, and even a housebroken dog has occassional accidents, so I was hauling my full-sized Hoover shampooer out way too often. I'm told it's not good for your rugs to shampoo them too much, but you get to a point where you don't care. I had just shampooed them, then offered to dog-sit for a puppy that I was told was "doing well on housebreaking". Not sure what her owner's definition of "doing well" was, but the dog went on my carpet more times than I could count over the 4 days I had her.

Combine that with the 9 week old Australian Shepherd I just brought into my pack, who actually IS doing very well on housebreaking, but got sick a couple times, and I was ready to cry. Then I saw this little miracle shampooing machine and ran right out and bought it. It works GREAT! Old stains of unknown origin that were all down my stairs were easily eliminated (my upright doesn't have hose attachments and I wasn't able to clean the stairs). If the puppy has an accident, big deal! I've got my SpotBot out and the stain is gone. Even the really disgusting accidents. And the solution leaves a nice scent behind.

What I really love about this is that I can put it on the Automatic setting, then go make myself a sandwich, clean somewhere else, sit and play the piano, drink a glass of wine and watch Ghost Hunters...anything I want....and come back a few minutes later to find a nice clean rug. The manual setting works very well too.

Personally, I like that the spray radius is wider than the brush attachment. You cover more surface area with the solution in one spray, and then just move the brush around to clean up the whole area.

It's simple to use, lightweight, and very easy to clean. Just watch out for the hole in the top of the dirty tank when you go to empty it out. For some reason,I was thinking I'd have to unscrew something at the bottom of the tank and I poured all that filthy water down the front of myself.

Customer Review: Worth every penny!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I got my Bissel after I read the Amazon reviews. I got mine from Big Lots, and it was a remanufactured/refurbished machine, so it was only $75 with taxes.

I'll say it plainly: My cat has been pooping on the carpet. She is sick, so it is *almost* liquid. I got this because I was sick of scrubbing poop out of carpet with a washcloth and then having that nastiness to deal with. The carpet is light colored, and I felt really bad that my cat was messing up my parents' nice new-ish carpet.

It works great! I mostly use the handheld attachment as opposed to the spot-circle part, because the stain is not in a compact area. I feel like it works so much better than scrubbing it yourself because you aren't rubbing the stain down *into* the carpet, you are sucking it up and out.

My mom had me test it on a 4-inch-diameter spot in her room that she had scrubbed and scrubbed on and off for years. I put the spot-circle-cleaning part down over the spot, and it got it out! She was amazed. I think the vacuum really helps get any stain out.

It has also worked great on old food or mud related spots on the carpet.

I don't really think you need a lot (if any) of cleaning solution if you get to the stain early enough. I spray it with some cleaning material, then use the water (which sprays out of the handheld attachment if you use it), and it cleans it up really well.

You will only be able to use it on small areas, but it works well for that. I would say it is loud, but not any louder than any other vacuum. And, the only downside I see is the time you take after cleaning to clean the tube (by pouring some water down the hose which then goes into the dirty water container, and then washing out the dirty water container (I empty it in the toilet). You probably get away with not doing these steps, but as you probably buy this to clean up poop or vomit, I wouldn't recommend it.

Happy cleaning!

Customer Review: Must have if pet owner with carpet!!! Awesome Machine!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a stay at home mom with one medium size dog and one very fluffy cat. I read a lot of the reviews and wasn't sure whether to make the purchase or not. A cousin of mine said it was great and I should try it...so I did. Today I put it to work. How I ever lived with pets and carpet without a Spot Bot is beyond me!!! This thing is awesome!

You load up your solution/water, put it on the spot and let it do all the work! So easy!!! I am careful not to slosh it around too much when I move it full of water, and have not had any leaking problems like others have reported. It's SO easy to empty the dirty water, this thing takes hardly any time and takes all the work out of your stains! No more scrubbing on my hands and knees...and now I can leave it to do the dirty work while I play with my son! The Bot does all the work for me.

Other complaints people had were that it leaves the carpet wet....well duh people....do you expect it to blow dry the carpet as well? Sure it leaves the carpet damp...but not any more than it does when I scrub it by hand! So, this is not a big issue, and I do not think it overuses the water, or leaves you a puddle on your floor. It is a reasonable amount of damp for the job done. People also complained that it left circle marks on the carpet. Well, yes, it does work in a circular motion...but not all of the spots I did left a circle-ish mark. The places that did leave a circle are where the carpet is dirty (just from regular wear - I vacuum regularly, so it's not that kind of dirty- just dirty from being walked on so much in shoes)...and the Spot Bot left a CLEAN SPOT on the carpet. LOL The thing does it's job and it does it well! It took out old black (grease I think) stains in our carpet...on the surface setting - 3 minutes! Took out the odor where the pets had "accidents."

I LOVE the Spot Bot, and would recommend it to anyone with pets who have carpet. It is so EASY, FAST, and it WORKS! :)
