Tools and Hardware Reviews of BISSELL SpotBot Pet Hands-Free Compact Deep Cleaner, Blue Illusion, 1200ACustomer Review: I Love This Thing! Summary: 5 Stars
My husband and I have two cats - one is 14 years old, and the other is just over a year old. Both are long-haired. As you can imagine, finding coughed up hairballs on the carpeting is a weekly occurrence. Our older cat has also been having frequent "accidents" because sometimes he just can't make it to the litter box in time.
I picked this up on a whim because I was just SICK of scrubbing out the spots every week. Also, I was tired of having to bust out our huge carpet cleaner for these small spots. The thing was heavy and almost impossible for me to get down the stairs by myself.
I was VERY surprised at how well this thing works! It is very simple to use and very easy to keep clean. It's also light, so small people won't have to fight with it to get it up and down a flight of stairs.
There have been times when I have come home from work to find a crusty and dry pile of vomit or poo on the rug. Normally I would freak out and be stressed out for the rest of the night. With the SpotBot, all I have to do is clean up whatever solid "stuff" I can. Then, I just put the machine down on top of the spot and let it do its thing. Sometimes, if the spot is REALLY bad, I have to run it twice. But, it is always able to get the spot up and the solution leaves a nice, clean scent behind.
This thing is worth every penny, especially if you issues with hairballs and other "accidents." We have had this thing for about four or five months now, and I am very happy with the purchase. If this thing ever breaks down, I will not hesitate to buy another one.
Customer Review: Just Not Worth The Time or Effort Summary: 1 Stars
My wife and I purchased Bissell's Little Green Machine which was nowhere near the promised strength or ability promised. The spray and scrub were not powerful enough to get done what we needed.
So we bought another Bissell product, the Spot-Bot. Sounded cool because you could set it down on the carpet and leave it there. The brushes come out and scrub everything within the circle. Then it sucks up the water & when you remove the machine, the powerful brushes were supposed to have left you a circle of clean carpet beneath.
Our carpet is a light grey, and the Spot Bot would rest on a stain, and turn it into a crummy brown circle. It probably had a leak in a hose (I have read other reviews of the same product that talked about this same issue) and the stain you wanted to remove had just been spread around. It was terrible. So we now had circles of stained carpet instead of just "stained" carpet <sigh>.
We obviously got rid of that machine, but a couple of years later, after adopting a new dog, we saw the new Spot Bot for Pets. We were leery, but we bought it anyway. It had the same exact problems. Ugh. So we took it back to the store and decided we were done with Bissell.
We bought the Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac with Clean Surge for just a little more money. It works far better than any Bissell product we have ever had.
Now, I simply don't trust the quality of Bissell products. They do not succeed at completing the jobs they're supposed to do. Look for a different brand or type completely. It's just not worth it.
Customer Review: Hands free cleaning? Summary: 2 Stars
With two mini dachshunds and a cat getting up there I thought this would be the perfect spot cleaner, eliminating the need to carry a full size Hoover up and down two sets of stairs.
Pros:
*Very easy to use
*On board storage for hose and hand attachment
*Beep notification in automatic (hands-free) mode to let you know the cycle is complete
*Compact size makes it easy to carry up stairs
*Choice of automatic mode for set in stains (runs 6 minutes) and a shorter mode (3 min) for surface stains
Cons:
*Automatic cleaning leaves carpets WET...very wet. You will need to use the hand attachment manually to extract the remaining liquid from the carpet.
*Included cleaning solutions will only mask pet odors for a few days. They do not eliminate the odor. You will need to use a good pretreater that will eliminate pet odors.
*Leaks when using hand attachment
*Had problems getting it to work in manual mode. I'd have to press the manual button several times for it to start up.
*Costly due to the amount of cleaning solution needed
*Not effective in removing set in stains
While I really wanted to like this product due to the ease of use and compact size with all the cons I opted to return it. It is not truely a hands free cleaner as the automatic mode leaves "spots" too wet so you need to manually extract the remaining liquid left behind. As far as removing pet stains from my experience a bottle of Resolve Pet Stain and Odor remover is more effective with pet stains than this cleaner.
Customer Review: Um .. WOW! Summary: 5 Stars
I have to say, I'm impressed. I've been using the SpotBot Pet around my house for the past 6 months and I LOVE it. I have two small dogs who are still in potty-training, and the SpotBot works great on their accidents on my cream carpet.
However, I was amazed when I let my friend borrow it. We'd accidentally spilled a whole bottle of red wine on his cream-ish carpet and he LEFT IT THERE overnight. I let him borrow my SpotBot but was not expecting great results. After all, it's red wine on cream carpet and he'd let it set overnight.. I was expecting to go carpet shopping or find an area rug the next day. I was truly impressed when he was able to get the entire stain out of his carpet without much fuss. He had to let it run a few extra cycles, but hey.. it came out!
Yes, it can leave "crop circles" where the area you've cleaned is lighter/cleaner than the surrounding area. If I notice this happening I'll just clean an entire section of carpet.
I like that you can set it and walk away. I turn it on and let it run upstairs while I'm cleaning other areas of the house, coming back periodically to move it to other spots. It's been a great help keeping my carpets fresh with two small dogs. I like the fact that it's small too. For about the same price you can buy a large upright, but I don't really need it. My entire upstairs is carpeted (3 bedrooms, hallways, etc) and the size definitely works for me.
I would definitely recommend, and HAVE recommended it to friends/family. As well as to my wine-spilling friend ;)
Customer Review: When I first got this I would have rated it a low 5.. after a year I give it a high 3 Summary: 3 Stars
When I first got my cleaner last year I would have given this a low 5 stars only because I didn't like the amount of cleaner it used. It seems like you use a lot of solution for such a small area being cleaned. Also (and this would be more abouth the solution they have with the product than the product itself) the solution must be sticky or attract dirt because the spots I have cleaned tend to get dirty much quicker - leaving darker colored spots where you have cleaned, after a few weeks.
Now after a year of use (using it maybe once or twice a month) I would give it a high 3 because of one main problem. When using the auto cleaner the machine doesn't suction well, leaving a big wet circle in the carpet. I end up having to use the hose to go back over the carpet to get the extra water up. Not a big deal really but just a slight hassle. The hose still suctions well and I have made sure everything on the cleaner itself is cleaned after each use, so I am not sure what the problem is with the brush suction.
Like others have mentioned the machine does tend to use a lot of cleaning solution for the very small spot it cleans. I generally spot treat the stain first then just use really hot water in the machine for cleaning. Sometimes I will spot treat again when the machine gets to the point where it should be adding more solution. I have found this seems to get the carpet as clean without wasting so much solution and saving some money.
Overall, it does what it is supposed to do and gets small areas clean with little hassle.
