Customer Review: Ya gotta wonder what they're thinking...

B&D has been around for very long time. So it astonishes me that they mis-design this product in so many little ways. I'll just talk about the first thing one does after getting the box open: you have to mount the charging plate to a wall. Now, if you're replacing another, older dustbuster, wouldn't it be nice if the holes were in the same place? But no. Okay, so forget that. Wouldn't it be nice if the slots that capture the screw heads were actually long enough to capture them without the screws being in exactly-to-the-millimeter the right place? You know, a little give? But no, the slots are so short that if the screws are one tiny bit too close together, they slip out of the slot into the hole that allows the plate to mount over the screw head in the first place. Okay, so we'll make it brain surgery. Wouldn't it be nice if someone thought to offset the little groove that allows the cord out from under the plate so that it doesn't want to hang right directly across the hole where you have to put the screw? But no. And wouldn't you think, since one of the screws has to be tightened 'way down a tube where the screwdriver doesn't have much leeway and you can't see the screw head, that they would supply you with Phillips screws instead of slots? But no. These people never bothered to have someone install the unit and give them feedback. They just told the Chinese, "Do it, we don't wanna know." And now the Chinese are having a little chuckle as they imagine us going through unnecessary sh...you know what to get what could be a very simple installation over and done with.
Checking back in a few weeks later. The installation is behind me, I'm over it. But every time I use the DustBuster I am reminded once again that B&D's designers are fools. The on-off-switch is so hard to operate, so clumsy and difficult -- my wife who has not that much arthritis in her thumb has to ask me to turn it on for her. I'm plenty strong and healthy, I can do it, but why should I work this hard? I turn on a 300-horsepower car with a simple flick of my wrist, and I need to struggle to turn on a DustBuster? Who ARE these people??!
