I can't believe that people are giving this great hand vac only 3 or 4 stars out of 5... I give it 7!!!
I have now had this vacuum for a whole year, and this is my second review of this item (I felt it necessary for those that want an example of how great it can be and don't want to go through all the reviews).
I have MANY cats, and use this for cat litter on floor and in carpet (which is incredibly hard to get out without enough suction), for the stray pieces of cat food, for other food and crumbs in the kitchen and living room carpet since we tend to eat while watching tv, the human and cat hairs all over the large 1 bedroom apartment, dust and everything else you can think of...
Like I just said, we have a LARGE 1 bedroom apartment and I have a very messy roommate, and 4 cats plus any fosters we might currently have. This plus me, creates a BIG mess, and EVERY day.
I bought this vacuum last summer when we moved in, and at the same time I bought a bagless upright to replace the older bagged upright use to clean my old studio apartment since it wouldn't be able to handle such a large space.
I tend to only use this hand vac, I use the bagless upright to clean the whole place maybe once every month or 2. But don't get me wrong, I do not like a messy environment, and I am obsessive compulsive which means I like things almost totally spotless (well, actually spotless is best). I am the type to hand pick up a piece of lint if I see it on the floor soon after vacuuming so everything is "perfect".
This vacuum is amazing. Can use it for 8-12 minutes at a time cleaning up small areas (around litter boxes, the whole carpet area of 1 whole room, etc) and can count on it picking up practically everything (I am sure it leaves some things behind, but you can't see them and so it doesn't bother me quite so much).
After 9 months, the motor finally started to slow down a bit, but only because I would use this vac 2-3 times per day, EVERYDAY... Now after a year, the high speed (which is the one I would use all the time) is just a tad bit slower than the slower speed ??? with a full charge, and the charge doesn't last quite as long (3/4 I would say), but with as much usage as it gets from me and for what duties, I am not really surprised.
The vac is not that heavy for a normal person to use (how it can be "too heavy" as some reviewers say is beyond me considering it is a hand vacuum...), you should have no problem with the power/speed control (again) if you are a normal/average person, and it really isn't THAT hard to clean (the woman that cleans the accordian filter with a toothbrush is insane... I can easily just use my finger with some nail and pull out any lint that gets stuck in the creases). They have new refill filters here on Amazon for $10 (for the 1500 model but should work for this one too), and while my filter is getting pretty worn out and icky, I have used it for a year with HARD usage (more like what the average person would use it for in 3-4 years).
The plastic case has gotten scraped up quite a bit, but I have no holes in mine (like another reviewer) and don't see how that could actually happen (I drag mine across the kitchen and bathroom floors when cleaning and it doesn't happen on mine).
Since I have used mine to death, and even though it has a 2 year warranty on it, I will be buying another (now) to replace it (I might try that 1500 model), but again, only because I use this as my main vacuum cleaner and I totally think it is worth $30-35 to even buy a new one each year, for what it can and does do...
