I purchased this product for my sister last Christmas. She's disabled and a cordless hand-held vac is perfect for her and she uses it every day to pick up dust, dirt, and kitty litter. Unfortunately it's now November and the battery no longer charges to full strength. So I looked on line to find replacement batteries which is impossible. Then I read a review here and discovered that they are about as expensive as replacing the whole thing not to mention the difficulties replacing the battery once you find one. Not something my sister can do on her own. I wish they made a hand vac that has easily replaceable batteries like they do for battery-charged screw drivers and the like. I also agree that it doesn't hold a charge as long as the manual states. If it runs constantly you'll be lucky to get it to last five minutes, even when it's new. Unfortunately she cannot find the receipt so we can't get a replacement under warranty.Customer Review: Warranty on CHV 1400 Dustbuster

The Product Description and User reviews read well, but my experience with earlier models of Dustbusters leaves me sceptical.
After having the built-in rechargeable batteries fail quite early in what I felt should be a reasonable life-cycle, I decided "No more Dustbusters for me." Then along came your later models with replaceable batteries, so I took the plunge. Later, I purchased your heavy duty batteries, and these certainly boosted the machine. However, my machine itself is making bad noises, but I find that the design has changed. The result is that I am now stuck with relatively expensive rechargeable batteries, but unable to replace a failing machine.
Your new Product Description does not state what kind and length of warranty covers the new machine, especially since you have reverted to non-replaceable batteries. Please advise, to reassure me.

Customer Review: Two Chargers DOA. I can't belive what B&D can get away with!

This might be a good product, but I'll never know because the charger was dead on arrival. The charger contacts only touch the unit's battery terminals if I apply force upon the DustBuster when it is resting in the charger.
I called B&D, and after being on hold for 30 minutes or so, I was sent another one. It took 10 days to arrive. And it is also broken. Apparently, it's cheaper to staff a call center, and to ship broken replacement parts to customers than it is to actually build quality products.
I've read about many customers with the same issue. A company such as B&D should not be shipping a product with such low quality assurance.
Obviously, most people are happy with this product (note all the 5 star reviews), but do you really want to take a chance and waste all the time and money I've wasted? Think twice before buying this item and choose another brand.

I originally bought this DustBuster to vacuum out all the leaves, gravel and other debris that accumulate in my car, without having to use my cumbersome, corded upright vacuum. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this DustBuster handled the task quite effectively. I have also discovered this to be a great vac for cleaning the carpeted stairs and tiled entryway of my home. (No more vacuuming the stairs with the upright! What a workout that was!) A lower powered vacuum probably wouldn't have been adequate, however, this DustBuster's 14.4V motor is powerful enough to handle any cleaning task. The "twist-and-clean" filter is also a great feature which eliminates dirtying your hands during clean up. If you're serious about actually CLEANING while you're cleaning, without the aggravation of trying to use something that just isn't powerful enough, this is a great buy at a great price.Customer Review: Great little sucker

This is the third dust buster we have owned. First gen low voltage motor, no power and lowlife battery. Second gen better suction but battery pooped out after a year.
This new product has 14 VDC motor so it is a lot more powerful than the others. Battery is replaceable so I think we will have this for a long long time. The Cyclonic action fills up the front canister with dirt and debris so no more vacuum bags just dump it when its full. Another benefit, you might see something you didn't expect to find like a lost piece of jewelery or small toy pieces under the couch when dumping the canister. These would have disappeared into any other products bag never to be seen again. Has some tools (brush, small space, attachments) that are built in so they don't get lost. Powerful and small this product is actually useful in cleaning the car. Overall very please 5 stars.
