Customer Review: Excellent hand vac
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased three of these to replace three of the 14 volt versions. The 14 volt version only last me about two years and then the batteries started to go. Eventually I could only get a few minutes of suction. I attempted to buy new batteries but the best price I could find was $39.00 each. Not worth the cost given the cost of a new vacuum at ~$46 with shipping.

This new version works equally as well and is slightly smaller and lighter. It has an extension built into the inlet that is much easier to use when you want to get into tight spots. Unlike other reviews, I don't feel the inlet is smaller on this unit than my previous units. In fact, I feel the overall path into the dirt collection bin is a more direct path. Bear in mind we use these in the kitchen to pick up crumbs, in the bathroom to pick up hair etc and I have one in the garage for quick and light car cleanups so our needs are pretty light duty.

The suction is excellent and the units hold a charge longer than I have needed on any one job. The mounting plate and hook on the vacuum that connects the vacuum to the mounting plate is much better on this unit than the old ones.

While I understand built in product obsolescence, I am dissapointed that Black & Decker has not embraced a greener approach. Nothing was wrong with my old units and a simple battery replacement would have extended the use of my units considerably. Pricing the replacement batteries at or close to the price of a new unit is a sure way for Black & Decker to generate replacement sales every few years. If the battery was priced in the $20-$25 range and a recycle option was offered I would definatley have purchased new batteries. I am not excusing my own lack of greeness but for relatively close to the same cost I got a new vacuum, new batteries and a better designed unit.

Customer Review: Don't Buy This Dustbuster
Summary: 1 Stars

Don't buy this dustbuster. Please read all these reviews and take them into consideration prior to making a purchase. I didn't read them and now regret not doing so. I have many of the same issues with this product that everyone else has. The crevice tool is totally worthless because there is not way to lock it in the out position. The filter stops up frequently. It does come with a washable paper/cloth filter and it needs to be cleaned after each use. Don't believe the literature that says the VF100 or VF100H filter will fit this dustbuster. This literature is misleading. Even on the Black and Decker web page the comment on the the VF100 is for ALL cyclonic dustbusters which is what this one is. They should say the VF100 is for ALL cyclonic dustbusters EXCEPT the CHV1568. Since retailers don't carry filters for any model of dustbuster they sell, I had to purchase filters on the internet. I took, as truth, these filters would fit my vaccum. Now I have filters that are totally worthless to me because they won't fit. I finally found a phone number to Black and Decker and called them and was told at no place do they advertise that these filters work on the CHV1568. When I convinced the woman on the line to look at their web page she saw what I was talking about. It is misleading and false advertisement. If you purchase this product, order a number of replacement filters so you can change them frequently when you are using it. Then wash all of them and let them dry prior to using them again. Once that filter starts stopping up, the suction power diminishes considerably. I would recommend purchasing an additional 4 filters to have on hand and get use to changing them frequently if you insist on purchasing the CHV1568. Good luck.

Customer Review: 10-hour charge gives you 10 minutes of use...
Summary: 2 Stars

I've had this device for about three weeks now -- it was bought to supplement my Miele vaccuum cleaner, for upholstery, area rugs (which the Miele tries to swallow, whole) and stairs. The problem? It can take me two days to tackle one task, because the power charge -- even new out of the box -- is so poor. The first time I used it, I had charged it for 48 hours. The charge lasted 12 minutes. If I leave it for 10 plus hours, the charge never lasts longer than 10 minutes. I suppose it could be useful if all you're going to do is grab it off the power, blast at some crumbs you've just noticed, at replace it. But even to clean out my sofa once a week takes longer than this device can manage on a single charge.

I'm giving this an extra star because of all the handy little tools that come with it. (The AccuReach feature isn't all it's cracked up to be -- as soon as it hits the floor, it promptly retracts...) If the charge lasted longer, this would be powerful enough to handle the minor jobs I would like to be able to tackle without having to haul the vacuum cleaner out, hook it up, etc. (I live in an apartment; that's a big hassle.) I didn't notice any of the clogging problems that others reported, although I do notice that gunk clings to the filter, making for an occasionally messy cleanup.

All in all, poor value for money unless you like paying a premium price for a device able to tackle only the spot jobs.

Customer Review: Don't buy this vacuum - Buy CHV1400 or CHV1500 instead!
Summary: 1 Stars

Don't buy this! There's a better one to buy. We owned two Dustbuster CHV1400 14.4 volt for years. They work well but we finally wore the batteries out. So, we bought two of these 15.6 volt Cyclonic CHV1568 Dustbusters two months ago. They have a design flaw that makes them not NEAR as good as the CHV1400. I'm on Amazon tonight to buy two CHV1400, because they work FAR better than the CHV1568.

Here's the flaw. In the CHV1568, the filter gets CLOGGED ALL THE TIME. The moment it gets clogged, the suction gets weak. We use these twice a day and we have to clean the filter every day. It's a mess, has to be done outside because dust gets everywhere. But, if you don't, they lose most of the suction. The filter is slightly different than the filter in the CHV1400. In the CHV1400, the filter doesn't get filled nearly as often, and when it does, there is still a reasonable amount of suction.

Also, there's another defect. The CHV1568 has a fairly wide mouth but inside, that mouth narrows. That gets clogged up too, with pieces of paper, all kinds of things.

In summary, I'm on Amazon tonight buying two new Dustbusters to replace the CHV1568s. I'll either get the CHV1400, or I may try the CHV1500. After being so satisfied for years with the CHV1400, I'm getting rid of these two CHV1568s.

Customer Review: The best looking Cordless, Plus it works great too!
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm a shopper (If you see my other reviews, you'll notice I only buy the best). And with all the information available online, whether it's professional reviews, or the ones like the one i'm writing now, they can change my opinion about a product from loving it to not-so-sure about it in just a few lines. So after wearing my little red Dirt Devil corded hand vac out to the point sparks were coming from the motor housing (I thought Red meant shop-vac equivolent... Not so) I started looking for a $50 or less cordless that could live up to my Lofty expectations. I thought I'd decided on the quirky looking Pivot Nose Black & Decker because it was so well reviewed, but then my parents got one for xmas. Being the type that demands the best, but also individuality, I started searching once again. I'm so glad I did! This is a great looking hand vac. It feels great in the hand, the extendable nose is very handy, as are the two onboard attachments. The best thing by far is the slide switch on the side that gives more suction after two quick flicks. I appreciate the double filters, but I don't have allergies, so sometimes it's just a little annoying cleaning them out every other time I empty the canister. It's a small price to pay for Style, Power, Convenience, and Individuality...
