Customer Review: This Vac Saved My Parenting!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have 2 young boys ages 1 and 3 that I think are the messiest eaters on the planet! Before getting this vacuum, I huffed my way through after meal clean up....getting madder & madder. The whisk broom & dustpan just took forever & I hate dragging out my huge vacuum as my boys start playing with all of the attachments!

I finally decided I needed a hand vacuum, and this vacuum has saved me from blowing up many times. When a plant gets dumped or an entire box of cheerios spilled, I can stay calm now and just get Black & Decker out. The mess is cleaned up in 30 seconds or less! It is so powerful...I haven't found anything it can't pick up yet! I clean the trunk of the car, the front door mat, drawers when I'm spring cleaning, my high chair crevices, & the basement steps. Even my kids like using it

After my first day of using it, it came in so handy that I asked my husband if he could fashion me a holster to wear for it! :) I really think every parent would LOVE it and may just start buying this vacuum for baby shower gifts!

Customer Review: Cat Litter Bust
Summary: 1 Stars

I got this, with high hopes after reading all the rave reviews, to pick up all the cat litter my cats track out of their litter box. It had powerful suction at first, though it did let a lot of dust through the filters and tended to drop some of the debris as soon as I shut it off. Both filters, there's an accordion pleated paper filter and a plastic filter with tiny holes, became clogged within a week. To clean them, you have to wash them in water. The cat litter dust turned to cement as soon as I did that. I was never able to get the filters completely clean again despite a lot of effort. After that, we stopped using it for cat litter, it's intended purpose, but it continued to become more and more clogged over time, despite repeatedly cleaning the filters. Finally it's suction power is nil. We are throwing it away. I suppose that if you don't use it on clumping cat litter or other materials that may turn to clay or cement upon washing the filters, it might be an okay vacuum if you don't mind a bit of dust blow through.

Customer Review: Only worked for 2 months
Summary: 4 Stars

This product worked OK while it lasted. Not quite as much suction as I had hoped for. You do have to be careful to hold the snout straight up before turning it off so any dirt left in the snout is sucked in and doesn't dribble out on the floor when you put it back in the charger. Big complaint is it died after about 2 months. I probably used it no more than a dozen times. I now have to send it back for repair. I could drop it off at a repair facility, but that's about an hour away. We'll see what happens. (rating of one star due to failure)

Update 10/8/10: cost about $10 to send to repair facility. I had a replacement in about 2 weeks, so I was pretty impressed with that. I received the newer model (PHV1810), which I guess is OK. We'll see how long it lasts. I updated the rating to 3 stars due to the pretty quick time to get a replacement.

Update 2/21/11: Still working great. Adequate battery life and performance. I use it all the time for minor pickup. Raised rating to 4 stars.

Customer Review: Everything good but the battery
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this back on 6/21/07. I'll only comment on the battery since there are tons of others comments and i agree with all the pluses about it and I also have the problem of dirt fall out of the nose when finished using it(i guess i lost the trap door along the way to, I just thought it was because the pivoting nose got to dirty inside)

Now the battery is shot. After 1 minute it starts slowing down. I opened it up, which is a pain since the screw holes are so small that u need a small philips screw driver, to see if it had a normal battery that looked replaceable. Once I got to the battery part it was clear the battery wasn't replaceable. It's not a battery like in a cell phone or a UPS device. It's actual a series of 6 or 8 batteries. They look basically like M-80 firecrackers but longer.

So this sucker lasted 2.7 years for me. Cost $60 (incl tax), averages out to $22 a year.

I don't know yet if I'll replace it with another or something cheaper that might not be as good.

Customer Review: Wouldn't suggest...
Summary: 2 Stars

The only positive to this vacuum is that it does have very strong suction.

It is very loud. VERY loud. By far the worst thing is that it does not hold the dirt in the trap. When you turn it off all the stuff falls right back out of the chute. So basically, you find yourself re-cleaning up. Now I have to leave it on until I reach the trash can, then I shut it off. I can't wait to replace it.
Also, the filter is hard to clean and you feel like you're doing it all the time.
EDIT: I got this old vacuum out the other day to use. After using it, I remembered another key thing I forgot to post. The charging stand for this unit has the vacuum stand straight up on it's end (in other words chute opening facing down). No matter how well you clean out the collection bin there is always some remaining debris. When you place the unit on the charging stand the remaining debris falls out. This crud you either have to clean up or eventually will block the contact pads to charge the vacuum.
