Tools and Hardware Reviews of Black and Decker CFV1200 DustBuster 12-Volt Cordless VacuumCustomer Review: I'd say it sucks, but it doesn't... Summary: 2 Stars
I have an old Hoover QuickBroom with a cord. It's wonderful - sucks up everything in sight and is especially great at floor edges. I also have a fairly new cordless Electrolux that's ok, but not as good as the Hoover. In between those two, I purchased the Black and Decker. It's not powerful. It falls down when I try to stand it up against a cabinet for a few moments. As someone else stated, it's hard to get the Dustbuster back into the upright. If the unit didn't have a strangely-shaped cord end, I'd never be able to find the spot to connect the cord to the vacuum for recharging. It doesn't do edges at all. I have a large expanse of tile flooring in my house, and it doesn't stay charged long enough to do the whole downstairs. Nor does it pick up enough dirt to allow me to wash the floor afterwards without that accumulation of grit that happens when the floor hasn't been vacuumed properly before washing.
The only reason I gave it two stars instead of one is because the Dustbuster portion is ok as a Dustbuster. I should have just bought a Dustbuster, because as a vacuum it's annoying and useless. Those who think this is a cool product have obviously never tried a Hoover QuikBroom. I'd much rather deal with a cord than struggle with this B and D abomination.
Customer Review: About to buy my 3rd in 2 years but not perfect Summary: 3 Stars
This little guy is very convenient. It works great after dinner under the table and when people are on the way and will be here in 5 mins. We use ours daily and often 2x per day with 3 small kids but there are some things you should know.
We are on our 3rd one because they break a lot. Our first one had to be taken apart (completely) because some of the electrical contacts were not staying connected. Finally the plastic starts to crack and chip off.
The second one the charger gave out, the plastic again starts breaking, and it is now in our trash can.
I would expect the life expectancy is about a year on these things - which is what we are averaging.
Tips:
- Keep the brushes on all the time even on hard surfaces. Works much better this way.
- Before you start empty the dust tray, make sure it is not clogged and use a knife to cut and pull all the hair and string that gets caught in the roller.
- Monthly I run the plastic top and the filter through the dish washer and then let them dry to clean out all the dust and germs. You can do this in the sink as well.
Anyway - a must have for families and people who don't need to pull out the big vacuum every day.
Customer Review: Good hand vac, Terrible stick vac!! Summary: 2 Stars
I belong to two cats and need to vacuum at least once a day, oftenly two or three times daily. Other than their hair and my hair, my main objective is pick up the kitty litter that gets scattered around my apartment, mostly in the bathroom where their litter boxes are and outside the bathroom in the hallway. I've used different litter tracking mats, but they don't really seem to help much. Naturally it's a task to break out the main vacuum, plus the bathroom rugs get caught up in the roller, so I've been using a Eureka stick vac for the last few years. I finally got rid of the bathroom rugs because it takes literally dozens of times of going over a spot to pick up all of the litter.
So now I'm trying to find a good cordless vacuum for my kitty chores.
After being pursuaded by all of the positive reviews, I bought this vac to replace my older eureka corded stick vac. As mentioned by another reviewer, this vac has good suction when used as a hand vac. The problem is when you use it as a stick vac. It has very little suction. It would pick up some of the litter but the majority of it just got pushed around, if they even moved at all. I went ahead and returned this vac to Amazon. Unfortunately I'll eat the shipping cost to return it.
Customer Review: Does what it is meant to do Summary: 4 Stars
If you're looking for a powerhouse, this vac will be a disappointment. However, it you need to deal with the aftermath of a two-year-old's snack of saltines, this is the more than adequate. Go get a Dyson if you want a dirt-sucking monster.
This is our second cordless stick vac. The first was Eureka Boss Lite, which was great except for the fact that it did not have a removable "dustbuster" portion. It died an unfortunate death at the hands of our moving company.
The one down side is the fact that while the battery pack appears to be removable for eco-responsible disposal, it is not appear to be replacable. This is unfortunate because battery failure is most common reason rechargable devices die. It appears as though the pack might be rebuildable with new cells, but you'd need to be a little handy to do it. This is one place the Eureka has this unit beat, That being said I'm pretty sure the battery capacity and power on the Eureka were less robust. I'm also sure Eureka charges a lot for replacement battery packs.
All in all, a good tool for quick, small vacuuming jobs.
Customer Review: Black and Decker Cordless Vacuum Summary: 4 Stars
So far I am happy with my purchase of the Black and Decker CFV1200 Cordless Vacuum. I wanted something lightweight and easy for sweeping my hardwood kitchen floors and my bathrooms. I did quite a bit of research on cordless sweepers before I settled on this one. I read many reviews much like this one. So far I love it. Although it is marketed for hard floors or carpet, I only use it on my hard floors and use my upright for the carpets. It sucks up pretty well on the hard floors, though it is sometimes tough to get up next to baseboards & in corners. I like the fact that I can detach & use as power hand-held for upholstery for example or use as regular dust buster. I read in a couple reviews that it was important to let the battery drain completely after first use before charging again. Supposedly it's supposed to keep it sucking well. However I didn't get to test this because my well meaning roommate plugged it in while I was gone. I read a few reviews that said it was really loud but I don't think it's any louder than you would expect a vacuum to be.
