Tools and Hardware Reviews of Blanco BBS-SS-B 3-1/2-Inch Basket Strainer, Stainless Steel FinishCustomer Review: Not Stainless Steel appearance; Nice bright shiny chrome look. Summary: 3 Stars
This Basket Strainer looks like Chrome not Stainless Steel. So if you are trying to match a brushed nickel or stainless steel look, this may be way too bright. The sewer line going into the wall seems to be a problem many times when you add granite and new deeper sinks. If the pipes under the sink are lower then the opening, water would have to drain uphill. So I had to get the smallest (but highly rated) $100 Kitchenaid disposal. Of all disposals I looked at it has the highest drain opening. I made sure the Blanco sink was 8.5 inches verses 9.5 inches on the disposal side which gave me one more inch. So I don't have to redo the sewer line at a major expensive.
But the Kitchenaid disposal has a stainless steel like flange and the Delta faucet I got was brushed nickel so I didn't want a third look of bright shiny chrome. I looked all over for a basket strainer that would match. The biggest problem is that all strainers were too small. Yes, they do vary! Don't get me wrong; they fit in the opening but can leave a gap around the edge in a blanco sink. I thought, "Great, now I have to get a tooth pick and clean it out occasionally. Nice place for germs to harbor!" This blanco strainer oddly doesn't fit the blanco sink opening either. Same gap problem, although it was less than others I tested. After buying 5 strainers and testing them I finally got smart and brought a ruler to HD and Lowes. Finally I found it (a Kohler stainer) at HD. The perfect fit and perfect look, but expensive. $49 at HD, which was cheaper than the internet --$88 to $110 for the same thing. Fortunately I had a $10 off coupon from Lowes and asked HD if they would honor it. HD said they honor all competitors coupons, so I got it for $39. The Kohler might be considered overkill. It is the heaviest, most solid strainer you will ever touch in your lifetime. The only problem with the Kohler is the logo on top; wish the name was bigger. Say as big as the "China" imprint on the underside :-). All is good. I installed it yesterday. Warning don't use plumbers putty of Blanco sinks; use silicone. Read the plumbers putty container or call Blanco. Good Luck
