Tools and Hardware Reviews of Blue Max GEN 4000 4,000 Watt 6.5 HP OHV Gas Powered GeneratorCustomer Review: Blue Max GEN 4000 Summary: 4 Stars
I ordered three of these over a two day period for folks in Houston after Ike. All three were ordered on overnight delivery. Two arrived as promised. The third did not get picked up in Dallas and I had to call serveral times to get it moving. In the end the third came in late and was returned. I was given full credit, so + to Amazon for the credit, - to Amazon / FedEx for not getting it here on time.
After filling with oil and putting in gas the generators started easily. I put some load on each and they performed well. The oil fill is not easy to get to, but this seems to be common to similar gas powered devices. I have not had any feedback on the performace of these machines. One was taken to an area that got power back right away so it did not get much use. The other went to an area that was without power for at least 2 weeks. I have not had any feed back on how it performed.
I also ordered two sets of add-on wheels. For some reason the vendor did not support the order. Amazon credited my account and has since cancelled the order from the vendor.
Customer Review: Handy little generator Summary: 4 Stars
I ordered this generator the day after losing power as a result of IKE,even though I live in KY! We had tremendous winds that knocked the power out to almost 300k homes. I got mine in a day thanks to Amazon Prime! Added oil and filled the tank and it started on the first pull. It has almost a weeks worth of running on it and the only complaint I have is that is appears to be using a little oil I don't know if that is to be expected? Some oil use during a break in period may be part of the process, but I do know the low oil shutoff works. It's too bad there isn't a light to tell you why it shut down.
I used this little guy for a couple of days and it was loaned to a friend for 4 more. No problems other than the oil being low on two occasions. Like I said, this may be part of the break in process.
Once I get it home I plan to drain the current oil out and replace with synthetic oil and run it some more as a test. We don't lose power that often, but when we do I'll be ready.
Customer Review: Red Baron Summary: 4 Stars
Read all of the views and weighed the pros and cons. Most of the negatives came from damage incurred during shipment. Ordered the Blue Max gen set anyway and it arrived with only minor scuff marks, although the bottom of the box was ready to fall apart. Yes, putting the oil in is somewhat difficult, some have recommended tipping the generator on it's side, I would not do this, too easy to over fill. Knowing you're only going to need a alittle over half a quart, use a flexible funnel and a cheap plastic measuring cup, pour in the oil until it reaches the full mark.
Added oil and gas, generator started up on second pull.
The wheel set is a pain, I took the time to remove the paint from the threads and cleaned the bolt holes. I agree with other reviewers, look at the picture, disregard the narrative instruction. It is actually fairly easy to assemble if you prep the parts first.
So far haven't had to use the gen set, but winter windstorms are coming to the Pacific Northwest and I'm sure we'll be needing it.
Customer Review: Arrived Broken and disappointed!! Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this from Amazon and a wheel kit from Homier. The generator arrived first and the box appeared undamaged so it sat until the wheel kit arrived. When I started putting on the wheel kit I noticed the case on the generator was broken and one mount broke so I contacted Amazon. Well it appeared they didn't have anymore in stock so I agreed to a partial refund and would replace the case myself(I'm a mechanic). Well after locating parts and getting them, I repaired the case. I started to add gas and found the fuel tank leaked, apparently hit by the loose engine. I contacted Amazon again but since so much time had passed I couldn't get a refund. The operator(from India I think) gave me a $10. gift certificate. WOW, $10. !!!!!!
Fortunately they are out of stock so no one else can order any but if you get one elsewhere, please open the box immediately and inspect EVERYTHING!!
VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!

Customer Review: First Unit DOA - UPDATE Summary: 4 Stars
I received the replacement unit about a week after they picked up the defective one.
When I first saw the shipping box, I thought I'd be sending this one back too. They should mark these things fragile (which means they are still thrown, albeit "underhanded"). Surprisingly, the generator survived without a scratch.
I added oil and fuel and, at first, it wouldn't start. Once I set the choke, it started first pull.
Funny thing about this particular machine, it has to be choked EVERY TIME. Even after running it for fifteen-twenty minutes it will not start without first setting the choke. I find this odd but doable.
It runs every powertool I have from demolition saws to pipethreaders. I'm impressed.
I do, however, have to take away a star for the way they tucked the pull starter in behind the control panel. With a little forethought they could have avoided this conflict.
For the price - unbeatable.
