Tools and Hardware Reviews of Blue Max GEN 4000 4,000 Watt 6.5 HP OHV Gas Powered GeneratorCustomer Review: Blue Max 4000 Summary: 4 Stars
I received the Generator Via UPS, On Time, but the lower cross rail was bent. It had no effect on the functionality of the generator so I accepted it. UPS doesn't care how they handle your packages, especially if they are heavy. The generator looks good, and after I serviced the oil and filled the tank, I turned on the fuel valve, turned on the choke, pulled the cord and it started on the first pull. After about 15 seconds the engine found its happy RPM and ran smooth. I pluged in most of my power tools to check it out and it had no problem with any of them. Not even my Big belt sanders. I plugged it into my shop and ran all the lights, table saw and drill press at the same time with no problem. One note, please remember to get the paperwork and books before you start it. They can be found on the very hot muffler. Also don't forget to add Stabil to the fuel if this is to be an emergency generator. It isnt much good if the fuel goes bad in the tank and carb.
Customer Review: My First Generator Summary: 5 Stars
The Blue Max 4000 arrived in what I would describe as rough condition; however, I accepted it. There were no obvious defects once I opened the package. Upon more careful inspection, however, I found a defect that appeared to have originated at the factory, and Amazon was fair in making it right.
There were no problems preparing the BM4000 for running in. The instructions were fine. I put a half gallon of gas in the tank, turned on the gas, and choked; but it didn't start. Why? I forgot to turn on the switch. After that procedural defect was corrected, BM has started on the first pull every time. The electrical production was excellent.
I have no problems with the quality of workmanship, none whatsoever. It was a good buy, and I'm ready for the next hurricane. I elected not to buy the handle/wheels accessory. I use furniture slides, and they work just fine.
Amazon's handling of the shipping, etc. was excellent.
Customer Review: Good generator, poor packaging sets this up for damage..... Summary: 4 Stars
After reading the reviews here, I decided that this generator was a good deal. I read many reviewers comments about receiving generators damaged during shipping. Mine arrived damaged as well, but I do not blame this on Fedex or Amazon. I put the blame squarely on the company (Homier?....) that decides to put a 100lb item in a cardboard box without a styrofoam shell. My damage included a bent cage and a cracked cast housing that supports the engine and bolts to the rubber motor mount. I was a able to negotiate with Amazon and was compensated for this damage since the generator runs fine. I fabricated my own wheel kit and will fix the damage to the motor mount myself.
Most buyers will choose to get a replacement or full refund, this makes sense as well.
After adding oil, the generator started up easily and I ran a 1300W tool off the generator to test its output. I cannot attest to the long term performance of this generator.
Customer Review: WOW!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I tried it out and it works great. It took a little while to get here but it was in great shape when it did. No damage anywhere, be careful not loose any of the pins that hold the wheels on. The bag they came in had a whole in it. So a pin got lost but it only cost 29 cents to replace it at ACE.
As for how loud the generator is it very loud. Some reviews said it was not louder than a lawn mower. I guess it makes a difference what lawn mower you have. I paid over 1100 dollars for my lawn mower but it is a commercial lawn mower. It is not very loud at all so I had hopes it would be quieter. But that is a 1100 dollar lawn mower.
No problem starting it at all. I am so happy with how easy it is to moves around (once you put the wheels on it) and how great it looks. It the power goes out my beer will be cold and my ice cream will stay frozen.
Customer Review: Great Tool! Summary: 5 Stars
Bought this just before hurricane Ike hit Houston. Starts with one pull and runs like a champ. Didn't get to use it for the house supply, as we left town, but used it for power tools to clean up yards after our return.
As in other reviews, it ran quieter than expected but had no damage from shipping. It's a terrific unit and easy to operate. Used a funnel with a flexible hose to add exactly 1 pint of oil with no mess. Attached wheel kit with cute little pneumatic tires for convenience. The handle that comes with the wheel kit is totally useless, though. After assembly, you can only pull the handle end of the generator straight up, but you cannot walk with it or pull it that way. Someone needs to rethink the handle design. The generator was great - had 500 more kilowatts than my brother-in-law's generator and got it $100 cheaper! Bigger toys mean more points, right?
