Tools and Hardware Reviews of Blue Max GEN4000B 4,000 Watt 6.5 HP 4-Stroke OHV Gas Powered GeneratorCustomer Review: Best Value with good performance Summary: 5 Stars
I have had this gas generator for a year and if you're considering a reliable home genset, give this unit some serious consideration. Prior to purchase, my research determined that the engine is manufactured in China under license from Honda. Item arrived with packing damage but the support cage around the product rendered enough protection. Once I added oil, it started after three pulls and has been doing so, reliably, for these past 12 months.
Strongly advise the purchase of the wheel kit which will definitely simplify transporting to various parts of your home.
My neighbor has a Honda 5500 watts and paid over $1,800. This unit has a great price with admirable performance.
Customer Review: Soft to run, hard to start Summary: 3 Stars
For the price I paid, it's OK, even taking in account that it's a Chinese product. Don't try to understand the manual, because it's been written by people who obviously don't have a good knowledge of English. I coined a word to describe such language: "Chinglish". After taking it out of the box, I have it filled with oil (10W30) and gas. I had to do some efforts in order to get the generator started. One pull wasn't enough. It started at the 9th or 10th try. The generator is, surprisingly, less noisy than other similar products and run smoothly with almost no pops and the generated voltage is highly stable. It's a good buy, although I regret I didn't choose a model with an electric start and wheels.
Customer Review: Hurricane Gustav Summary: 5 Stars
The Wednesday before Hurricane Gustav hit Baton Rouge I purchased the Blue Max GEN4000 (older version). I joined Amazon Prime and for $283 and change (the generator was on sale for $279) it was delivered to my home the next day. Gustav knocked out 99% of the electric in Baton Rouge. I powered a 5000btu window AC, a couple fans, a side by side refrigerator, three or four low wattage lights and a 19 inch portable TV with this unit 24hrs a day, for 8 days-5 hours. I changed the oil every 72 hours. Not a single problem and started on the first pull most of the time. It was quietier than other generators in my neighborhood and best of all burned just 5-1/2 gal of gas per day.
Customer Review: Cheap crap Summary: 1 Stars
Bought this item through amazon from Homier distributing. It didn't work when I got it. It started up just fine, just didn't put out any power, which is kinda why I bought it! I called Homier and after you wait on the phone for about 30 min, you may get to talk to someone, or it just may hang up on you. Well finally I get someone and they want to send me parts, cause they know what the problem is. I agreed to wait on the new parts, but they didn't fix the problem. It took another 2 days of trying to get someone on the phone at Homier and now they will have someone call me back. It never happened. Don't buy this generator, and don't buy anything from Homier.
Customer Review: pretty quiet Summary: 4 Stars
I bought my blue max for $319 and it was delivered one day early. It was nicely packaged and came with the instruction book. I have been using the blue max for my travel trailer, it runs the air, frig, tv, or anything else in there. Starts right up (with full choke hot or cold) and runs as quiet as the camper next to me with a honda 2000. I am pleased with my purchase (cheap) but I plan on making another review after I put many more hours on it. It is pretty heavy to lift into the back of the truck, but I just leave it there and plug the 30amp cord into it. I had to buy a adapter at the RV store for the 30amp receptacle.
