Customer Review: Poor choice

I got this product despite a fair number of negative reviews, figuring that in many cases the poor reviews were due to isolated incidents.
First of all, let me say that the product looked like it would be wonderful. It was light, the color was rich, and the exterior felt as nice as could be expected for the price. We had very few problems with this comforter for the first few weeks. It does crinkle slightly due to the insulating material used in addition to the down (which is why its so light).
After a couple weeks of light use and a couple washes, the comforter became less and less comfortable due to several (and I mean several) feathers poking painfully out of the material. I've used plenty of down and feather bedding in the past and I know this comes as part of the territory, but this is the first time I've had it happen to such a degree that the bedding was unusable without several layers between you.
The real problem happened about a month later. We soldiered through the feathers, still reasonably happy with the purchase (despite having to vacuum more often). During a normal wash, the comforter acquired an awful smell that would not come out after several repeated washings. My wife and I know how to use a washer, yes. We'd washed the comforter several times before without incident. I have no idea why this particular wash created such an odor, but it was completely isolated to the comforter and so bad we simply had to throw the thing out! I would not recommend this product to anyone.
