Tools and Hardware Reviews of Brita 35530 Ultramax Dispenser

Customer Review: PUR is better but it is also not better.
Summary: 4 Stars

I had gotten this and the PUR equivalent has a Christmas gift to my workplace. They each had good and bad points.

Pros:

1) Short enough to fit on most shelves..
2) Small access lid makes filling easier than removing whole top
3) You can bring brita filters to whole foods for recycling or mail them in (I just tried looking it up again and cannot find a similar service for PUR).
4) Water filters through fast (in comparison to PUR).

Cons:

1) Does not drain fully through spout even with tipping forward.
2) Charcoal particulate in reservoir (does not effect anything since it is the pre filtered water area but is offputting to some).
3) Consumer reports notes it does not quite filter as well as PUR but to such a small degree that it's negligible.
4) digital filter manager thing is worthless. Just go by date.

Overall I would go for this one as most of the cons are really not much of a problem and you can recycle these filters. If PUR ever gets a recycling program going I would tilt the other way, but for now Brita is my boy.

Customer Review: Definitely worth the $$$
Summary: 5 Stars

My stepdaughter, my husband and I love our Brita UltraMax Smart Dispenser. It is simple to get a cold and tasty glass of water. My only warning is that if it is hard for someone to lift a gallon of water or do not have the fridge space then it is a bad choice. The weight of one gallon of water is about 9 pounds so with the filter system I presume it is about 11 pounds in all to life and put into a refrigerator. (about 5 kilograms) This can be hard for those who cannot lift for medical reasons. The good news is that there are two ways to fill the tank. One Way is to use the smaller lid which is in the top cover of the tank. This can be done by pitcher or a large glass that was filled in the sink. The second way is to take the entire dispenser out of the fridge and either remove the cover. We do this both ways in my family depending on who decides to fill the dispenser. The dispenser is about the size of a 12 pack of beer or a medium sized turkey.

The parts come apart easily to wash with regular dish soap and water in the kitchen sink. I recommend doing this everytime the filter is replaced.

Customer Review: Easy, Same Brita Quality, Perfect for small family of 2-4
Summary: 5 Stars

We had previously used Brita products, specially the 1 gallon jug. But it was too small for us and I always felt lazy to fill it, because once I fill, I had to wait to drink just a glass of water. And then, within few glasses, repeat all over again. Due to the smaller size of previous filter we ended up buying more plastic water bottles.

With Brita Ultramax, all our problems were solved and very first day I realized how good my purchase is..

1. Nice small design, so filter can be placed easily anywhere in Kitchen. Nice little tap for ease of operation.
2. Good water quality. I did not check with any water quality meter, but water certainly tastes better after filtration
3. Uses same Brita standard filter
4. Enough quantity of water for a family of 2-4
5. Very easy to refill, good for lazy guys like me
6. Helps me making an environmental friendly person by avoiding plastic bottles.
7. It also as the filter indicator which helps you to decide when to replace the filter.

I would highly recommend this product.

Customer Review: Filter doesn't make much difference
Summary: 2 Stars

After spending $30 plus dollars on this Brita filter, I have to say I am disappointed. I've used it for six months to come to this conclusion, and while it makes the tap water taste A LITTLE better, it's not that much better. And really, isn't that the whole point? I was hoping it would taste like spring water and I would never have to buy spring water again. Wrong! I'm going back to spring water.

Now, I have NOT compared the Brita filter to other filters, so I can't speak to whether Brita is just a bad brand or whether nobody will ever be able to get tap water tasting like fresh water, no matter what is done to it. But personally, this one doesn't do it for me.

Let's say the taste is good enough for you, how is the quality of the container/dispenser? I have no issues with it. OK so you can't get out the last few drops from the bottom, but that's not a big deal really. It's a good solid container, fits on the top shelf in the fridge, and I love the tap. That, and the fact that it makes tap water A LITTLE more bearable, is why I give it 2 stars, instead of 1.

Customer Review: Leak taken care of!
Summary: 5 Stars

I read all of the reviews on the Ultramax Dispenser and saw that many people had reported a leak problem. Because we'd recently gotten a french door refrigerator and didn't have the room to keep two Brita pitchers going at the same time as we had previously, I decided to buy the Ultramax at our local Target and cross my fingers that it wouldn't leak. I saved the box and the receipt in case we did have to return it. After about a week, I noticed the dreaded puddle beneath the tank. It never became too large, and a folded section of paper towel took care of it, but still I was disappointed.

I contacted Brita customer service and expressed my disappointment, and this is what I received from them:

"The gasket shrinks from the cold temperature of the refrigerator. Tighten the nut a couple of turns and it will stop. Also, please make sure that the gasket is placed after the nut and before the inner wall of the tank."

So if you have one and it's leaking, follow the customer service advice! I loved this dispenser before the leak and now I love it again.
