Tools and Hardware Reviews of Brita 35530 Ultramax Dispenser

Customer Review: It's not mold, it's algae - ew.
Summary: 1 Stars

According to the email response I got from the Brita website, there is algae in the water supply (varying levels depending on where ya live) and Brita filters do not get rid of algae. The list of things it does get rid of is on the box and info when you buy it. Apparently I must live in a high algae content water area, because both my Ultramax (on a counter away from direct sunlight),and space saver pitcher (in the fridge) acquire a thin film of green in the bottom less than a week after cleaning. And the same thing happens to a friend's Ultramax who lives a few miles away. It's pretty inconvenient to have to take apart and wash the things every week, so I'll probably get rid of the Ultramax. When I got these I assumed they'd only need cleaning every two months when I replaced the filters. Can't tell you how lucky you are if you live somewhere that has low algae content in the water - very disappointed that I can no longer use this product. I'll continue using the fridge pitcher only because it's easier to take apart and clean so frequently.

Customer Review: A big water dispenser, with one important quirk
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a serious water dispenser, no doubt. Mostly, it's a solid unit. It's nice to have filtered water in the fridge, ready for your drinking right from the spout. Call me lazy, but it's way easier than getting the pitcher out all the time. I haven't had any leaking problems, and it's easy to fill.

But it only gets four stars due to a design quirk that is a bit frustrating, although not unique to this model. The water spout is up high enough that a pretty serious amount of water will just sit at the bottom. So while the dispenser holds a lot of water, there's also a fair portion of it that will just sit at the bottom of the dispenser unavailable for drinking without tipping the whole unit forward. And again, this is not something unique to this particular unit, it's just how these things work, but it's still frustrating. That means filling up more often than I'd like.

Still, I think it's a worthwhile investment, if for no other reason than having to fill up the pitcher less often. I recommend it.

Customer Review: Poor spigot design = leaking & inaccessible water.
Summary: 1 Stars

This product is markedly inferior to its main competitor, the Pur 2-Stage Dispenser. Specifically, I found two main flaws:

1. The spigot draws water from at least an inch and a half up from the base of the dispenser. As a result, quite a lot of water is left inaccessible for drinking, even after tipping over the dispenser.

2. Even more infuriatingly, the spigot's connection to the main housing is so poorly designed that it eventually starts to leak water all over the place. The first dispenser I purchased started to leak after 1 week. I dutifully exchanged it for another one, which proceeded to leak after about 2 weeks. It appears that the "O-ring" that connects the spigot to the main housing shrinks when it gets cold. . . a rather fatal flaw for an item intended for use in a refrigerator.

Despite being a lifelong Brita user, I exchanged this product for a Pur 2-stage dispenser. I am now converted and will never go back. The dispenser is rock solid, and the water even tastes better!

Customer Review: So much better than you think...
Summary: 5 Stars

I never thought I'd love a water dispenser as much as I do now...

I used to have the older model of the Brita that was just a jug with a handle. It eventually broke and after searching for a replacement my boyfriend and I decided to purchase the Ultramax. BEST DECISION EVER.

It holds so much more water than you'd think it would and instead of refilling it a tiny bit and then having to wait (like you do with the jug-model) the tank takes a ton of water and you only have to fill it up 3 times. It lasts a solid 3-4 days without a refill between two people (and we're big water drinkers, so depending upon your consumption it could last even longer).

As for the timer on top - it really does help. Instead of just randomly remembering to put in a new filter, this is just an easy reminder.

Anyways, to anyone in search of a Brita, I highly recommend this model. It fits in a fridge, requires fewer refills than most models, and (most importantly) does a great job of cleaning your water.

Customer Review: Easy water dispenser for kids!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this dispenser over a year ago because we needed a new Brita pitcher and decided with 2 kids, this would be perfect to sit on the refrigerator shelf so we don't have to pull out a large pitcher every time someone wanted water. In fact, our old pitcher broke when my son went to get himself water and accidently dropped the pitcher on the floor. I also wanted a larger dispenser so that we don't have to refil it so often. This dispenser is perfect for our needs - it's large, easy to fill a glass without moving it and even easy to refil. It's rectangular shape makes it easy to fit on a shelf either in the fridge or on the counter. It has easy to grasp handles on the tops of the sides so it is easier to pull out of the fridge and carry to the sink. It has a smaller lid on the main lid so you can just remove that to refil. The best part is that my kids can refil their water cups by themselves - they like to do it themselves anyway!
So overall, I am extremely happy with this dispenser and highly recommend it!
