Tools and Hardware Reviews of Brita 42201 On Tap Filtration System, WhiteCustomer Review: A perfect device, if you hate things that work. Summary: 1 Stars
I've never written a review before, but I've never been so baffled and shocked that a company could release such a terrible product.
I wanted to exercise what little power I have as an individual consumer and steer as many people away from this filter as I can. I bought this after trying the PUR faucet filter, which worked OK ( and I stress OK ) for about a year and a half before the plastic case cracked and it shot water everywhere. I'll never buy anything from Pur again, surely I thought the competition would be able to put something out that works better.
Appearance-wise, the Brita filter looked more durable and the 3 levels of output seemed cool. When first opening the box, though, you'll notice that the adapter is made of cheap plastic. I tried to get it to work, and every time the filter just popped off when the water pressure was about half strength. I then switch the adapter to a metal one ( from the PUR filter, who seemed to have enough sense to go not the extra mile, but at least the mile, to include something proper). After configuring and swearing a lot I finally got the filter to fit where it didn't leak and didn't pop off at full pressure. However, the placement was so sensitive i knew it was a matter of time before it would come undone again.
Fast forward 2 months. 2. Months. It started popping off all the time. I could never find the 'sweet spot' again, and really, should a product require a sweet spot so that is can operate normally? I went online to see if anyone had ideas, and saw that I was not alone in this frustration. Many people seemed to have some jerryrigged hack to get it to stay on or not leak, or took they better route and threw it away and went something else (Hint hint, the Culligan faucet seems to be much better).
I tried using thread tape. No luck. I even got a friend that owns a construction company to try to get it to work and he couldn't either. At this point you throw up your hands, and toss it.
To the folks at Brita: I don't know who does your quality control, but wouldn't you at least consider they aren't doing their job? Did they try it on one faucet and saw that it worked for an hour, and decided that was good enough to ship nationwide? Despite the tons of negative reviews from multiple sources you have not said anything on your web site to offer assistance, replacements, or even a pledge to correct the issue. None of the FAQs or support documents even mention what to do if you can't get the darn thing to stay on, desipte that being the number one complaint. Doesn't the vast array of one star ratings trigger you into action? You remain quiet and hope others will fall prey to this cheap, useless piece of trash. Maybe give up on the complicated faucet division and stick to something you can handle: making a device that holds water. I'll never buy another Brita product again and thanks for wasting my time and money.
