Tools and Hardware Reviews of Brita 42201 On Tap Filtration System, White

Customer Review: the same but different
Summary: 4 Stars

like many other reviews here, I'm a second time buyer. we bought our first 4 years ago. finally last month the switch mechanism broke inside and wouldn't switch. prior to that the unit had survived my two boys growing up from age 4 barely reaching it over the kitchen sink and tugging it back and forth. it never fell off, got loose or started leaking. I would say the switch breaking is fair considering the abuse it took.

our advantage is that it fits our faucet doesn't need an adapter.

we got another because we like to have the spray mode too, the taste of the water is as good as any (we have very hard and occasionally rusty water in a drought). we drink a lot of water and use it for cooking, coffee and tea and found that it's not too slow to fill a large container either. filters last long enough and we always stretch it past the flashing red light warning until I can taste the difference.

note: the latest version is a little different. don't know if it's cheaper or not. the switch feels more defined between clicks. but since our other one broke at the switch, I won't be alarmed if this one breaks too and I expect to get 2 years out of it. hopefully they heard the complaints and redesigned it (again).

Customer Review: Improved? Not!
Summary: 1 Stars

I'd been buying the Brita faucet mount filters since they first came out and up until last week I was a fan. Only problem I had before was that after about a year they'd leak and have to be replaced - they're inexpensive, they're plastic, what do you expect?

So when my last one developed a leak I went out and bought a new one. Installed it, turned on the water - it promptly blasted off the faucet. Tried again, same thing.

Thinking I got a defective one, I returned it, bought another at a different store ... same problem! I was eventually able to get it to stay on by using the aerator/washer from the old filter and making sure never to turn the faucet on hard. Even being extra careful, I can count on it popping off every day or two. I've taken to not washing anything breakable in that sink!

The filter threads directly onto the outside of my faucet. I'm guessing either there are fewer threads, the threads aren't deep enough or the diameter of the connector is a fraction too big.

The packaging claimed the product was "improved" - sorry Brita, the "unimproved" version was much better! I've since ordered a Culligan - hopefully I'll have better luck with that!

Customer Review: Annoying, annoying
Summary: 1 Stars

Short and sweet: I have grown to hate this stupid piece of garbage and I am somewhat angry and also a little relieved that I spent $25 on this filter that worked for about two weeks. And after that the problems were increasing, the screw on the filter would slide off the faucet and so I decided to not use so much water pressure. Tried that for a while and after a few days of working fine, the connection would either burst open on its own, spraying water EVERYWHERE, or come loose when lightly knocked. After a while, I had to put the filter on just for the few moments I would fill a glass or a water bottle and then take it off because it was such a nuisance. I think its the plastic threading that's off and doesn't match with the metal of the faucet. Really weak device, I must say.
Today, actually, I went to the store to pick up another one I was so fed up and came across the PUR system with the one-click installation.....OMG, so much more sophisticated design! And its sturdy and their are no problems so far. I feel like I'm in heaven with a reliable filter that gives me clean water from the sink!

Customer Review: Like sands through the hourglass
Summary: 1 Stars

I'm convenience-oriented. Having upgraded from the Brita pitcher, to the multi-gallon unit, and then getting the Faucet Filter I was excited for an improved Brita medium. Finally! No more soaking the filters, washing the container, refilling the container. Xanadu had arrived. The Faucet Filter worked superbly for 3 weeks, and then without warning its flow rate dropped to 1/10th the speed of a meandering trickle in January going uphill with a wind in its face. And yet the little green blinker indicated everything was a-ok. What I call the "Automated Water Filter Useless Light", or AWFUL, showed thumbs-up. So I timed it, because I am a [curious person] who does things like quantify product dissatisfaction. From the 2-gallon Brita UltraMax dispenser it took 32 seconds of joy to fill a 1 quart container to the brim. Yet, the same size jug from the faucet Brita took 2 minutes, 3 seconds. When you watch a tablespoon or cup of water drip to completeness it is as if your life is wasting before your eyes.

Using this product is not unlike being stuck in gridlock, only less pleasurable.
