Tools and Hardware Reviews of Brita 42622 On Tap Filtration System, White/ChromeCustomer Review: Returning it to the store Summary: 1 Stars
I certainly don't doubt anyone's story (good or bad) about this product but it was a complete FAIL for me. I installed about a day and a half ago. This morning, it shot off the faucet and now it won't stay attached with the water running. It doesn't appear to be blocked, and I can blow air through it. For what it's worth, I only hand-tightened it and I don't believe I over did it.
Before this, I had a Pur under-faucet filter for about a year. It developed a crack in the thin housing and started spraying. I bought the Brita because it looked sturdier.
While it lasted, here's how I thought it stacked up:
* The water tasted good.
* The flow out of the filter was relatively generous.
* The filters are MUCH easier to change.
* The unit has a slide-switch so you can bypass the filter. It's easy enough to use but I like Pur's version better.
* The unit doesn't get in my way when using the sink.
* The aerator isn't that smooth. I'd call the water flow "chunky".
Overall, if the Brita had to fail, I am happy it failed so quickly. I still have the receipt and haven't invested in a box of replacement filters.
Customer Review: Save Yourself Aggravation! Summary: 4 Stars
When Step 2 of the product direction booklet reads: If the (faucet) adapter does not fit, call Britta Consumer Services at 1-800-24-BRITA (U.S.) or 1-800-387-6940 (Canada), it's obvious the manufacturer knows there's a problem with the adapters included in the kit. They're very cheaply made plastic that are much too short to support the weight of the filter. Unfortunately, the unwitting consumer spends time and gets soaked trying to make the thing work- after all, they wouldn't include totally useless adapters...or would they? Calling the Consumer Services number gets you a very nice real person who happily sends you much higher quality adapters that work immediately. The nice person's response when I asked why Brita doesn't simply include these adapters with the kit in the first place: "I honestly don't know!". My advice is to call Consumer Services (number above) when you order the filter- then you'll only have to wait another week or so after your filter arrives to receive adapters that work. You'll save yourself the aggravation- and the accompanying shower- you'll likely endure trying to make the thing work with the adapters Brita supplies in the kit.
Customer Review: Avoid if your faucet has threads on the inside. Summary: 1 Stars
About half the reviews of this filter loved it and half said it didn't work at all. I was hoping to be in the former half, but alas, mine is on its way back to Amazon.
If your faucet has threads on the inside, you need to insert a provided adapter to which the filter base screws on to. While the adapter screwed in nice and tight into the faucet, the filter base would not screw on to the adapter. The threads on both the base and adapter were shallow, few, and made of apparently cheap plastic. Repeated attempts to tighten the base to the adapter failed to sufficiently hold the base in place. The base would just pop off the faucet as soon as the water was turned on.
Perhaps the people who have had success with this filter had threads on the outside of their faucets, which allowed the filter base to be screwed directly to the steel threads on the faucet itself.
This did not appear to be an anomaly, but rather poor design/fabrication. I'll just keep using my Brita pitcher instead. Thankfully, Amazon's return policy for defective products is outstanding.
Customer Review: Wonder if the folks who rated it "1" found the packet of gaskets Summary: 5 Stars
I've used this system for longer than I can remember. I change the replacement cartridges regularly, water & ice tastes great, and I only changed the system itself ONCE after several years & only cuz it started to look kinda old. The filtration system, for me anyway, has ALWAYS worked great. I might've written the same complaint as as the people who rated it "1" (about the leaks) but it sounds like they might not have noticed that it comes with a PACKET of DIFFERENT GASKETS. It's right there in the box. It probably says somewhere in the instructions (yah, I never read those either) to select the one that fits your faucet best. The one that comes already inserted in the collar is pretty thick & would leak on my faucet, too. In fact, it did when I replaced the system for my 2nd one but then I saw the packet & remembered that I had to switch it out the gasket for the thinner black rubber thingy, just like before. Works terrific after that (yes, don't over tighten) & neither of the 2 I've had for over 7+ years has ever leaked without more than just a slight & very rare tightening.
Customer Review: A 5 Star Product With 1 Star Durability Summary: 1 Stars
I would give it 5 stars if it lasted more than two or three months. It did make our water and ice cubes taste better. We particularly enjoyed the fact that as ice melted, the taste of the water in the glass stayed fresh.
Every one we have bought developed a leak from between the screw-on collar and the valve body. This means that unfiltered water sprays or runs into the pitcher or glass you are using.
We first thought we might be overtightening it, so the next one was tightened only enough not to leak. It failed.
With the next one, we tried to avoid putting too much stress on it when we moved the lever. So, the next one was actually secured to the faucet spout with tape to take any stress off the attachment of the body to the faucet. It failed.
It's too bad Brita can't tell the Chinese factory to use a little better or thicker plastic to make this product stay in one piece. Chinese shortcutting has increase their profit by a nickel per unit, but has lowered durability and has already cost them sales, at least in this household.
