Customer Review: BE CAREFUL - NOT GE Smart Water MWF Cartridge COMPATIBLE!

I purchased a years supply of these Brita filters to replace my GE OEM filters in my refrigerator. Unfortunately I did not get around to installing them until the holidays. Much to our dismay the filters are not compatible with the standard GE water filter, even though Amazon and Brita claim that they are a direct replacement. (and yeah, I missed the return window)
The water system will not pressurize nor will water come out of the door once the filter is installed.
I am using the GE Smart Water MWF cartridge and this Brita product is NOT COMPATIBLE.

A GE Repairman indicated that all appliances will break, but that GE's model is specifically designed so that a network of repairmen continue to bring revenue back to the company. He also noted that all GE appliances have diagnostic devices, and that GE doesn't share its diagnostic codes with the industry in order to protect its turf. While I can understand how this makes for good business and revenue, it unsettled me. My refrigerator was a lot of money. When I purchased it, I was looking for an appliance, not a hobby. So when it came down to whether I buy the GE water filter or go with a third-party, I had no problem looking for third-party filters. The Brita filters work just as well (if not better) than the GE filters. The filter that came with the refrigerator worked for a little over 2 mos, and then the "Change Filter" alarm went off. I spoke with the same repairmen who noted that as long as water passes through the filter, they're still safe to use. He also told me that the reason that the alarm goes off is to try to get you to purchase more filters... again, more revenue.
While from what I understand pretty much all appliances nowadays are of the same quality, I wasn't too happy with the fact that GE keeps expecting me to spend money on an already incredibly expensive appliance, manufactured overseas, and according to the repairman, "Made to break." If anything, the price of filters should be going down, but GE's prices seem to just be going up. The Brita filters are just a smart move.

They do work, at least for me, as long as you follow the directions: fill it up with water first and run it for three minutes. If you really want it full that means putting a little water in, waiting a couple of seconds for the filter to suck it up, and repeating quite a few times until it does not take anymore water. It does fit in my GE Profile Arctica fridge. The form of the GE and Brita filters looked identical. It installed easily. I then ran it for a good three minutes, a little more actually. It is a little loud for those first three minutes and sputters a bit, but that goes away fast. The flow does not seem slower at all. It really is not that much cheaper than the GE brand, if not the same price nowadays, but my wife wanted something to taste better. I don't know if it tastes better, but it tastes different, softer maybe is how I would describe it. I like it though. I also originally thought "wow, this new filter is so much lighter than the old one" but of course the old one was still full of water and the new one was right out of the box. Duh. I have not held two new ones side by side.Customer Review: Great filters, quick service!

Items were sent as promised, getting here faster than promised. Great pricing and a wonderful product means that I will shop with this vendor again. I reccomend this vendor to anyone as trustworthy and honest.
