I got tired of buying the Kenmore replacements for my fridge every 2 months, especially after they went up to $40+ each. Our local Sears is horrid on customer service &, when I couldn't find these elsewhere, gave Amazon a try. Not only did they have this, but at a MUCH better price & with free Supersaver shipping to boot!
As for functionality, these last three times longer minimum and they appear to remove impurities better. My ice maker doesn't clog, which it did with regularity using the Kenmore replacement. All in all, this is definitely where I'm coming from now on!

After reading several reviews on this product I decided to try it out. I was looking for a replacement water filter for my Whirlpool outside door water/ice system. The original is SO expensive that we went nearly a year without using the system at all. This Brita filter works PERFECTLY. I have noticed no difference in flow of water, the taste is great and we have stopped buying bottled water! That is a huge savings for us. We purchased this replacement filter for our Kenmore side by side refrigerator that takes a 9010 replacement filter. We woke up the next morning to a kitchen floor full of water! It looks almost exactly the same as the PUR filter but the design is slightly different, and it leaks! We put the old filter back in and no leaks (so it wasn't the fault of the refrigerator). We tried this Brita filter for our Kenmore refrigerator as an alternative to the standard Kenmore/Whirlpool filter replacements.
It is a bit cheaper, but we noticed that the taste was a little less than desirable for the first few days (after letting the required amount of water go through the filter initially for waste). However, the taste improved after several days.

An excellent replacement water filter. I live in San Diego and the water here is terrible. We use our refrigerator water as a cheap alternative to bottled water. This filter greatly outperforms the filters we were buying at Home Depot. The Home Depot filters left the water tasting very alkaline, this filter works much better and leaves the water more neutral.
