Tools and Hardware Reviews of Liftmaster 41A4373A Garage Door Opener Safety BeamsCustomer Review: It fixed my problem! Summary: 5 Stars
My receiving eye LED light was very dim and would go completely off when it got really cold down here in S. Florida, Broward Co. 12/27/10 (36 degrees!)
So what would happen is when I would go to press the wall button to have the garage door go down, it would go down for like 7" then automatically go back up on it's own - and the light would blink 10 times.
So I bought the two replacements, (comes in a kit, with both) that were exact to the original model numbers...
1) I only replaced the receiving eye and the LED light wasn't as bright as the sending eye - and I still had the same problem.
2) I then replaced the sending eye and adjusted them so they can "see" each other, Everything Works Perfect NOW!!!
For me at least - adjusting them was a little tricky, because they are very touchy and must be aligned perfectly.
Just make sure the receiving eye LED light is not fluttering or blinking really fast, because it won't work.
Even in the cold weather, the LED lights are bright and the door goes down and the safety beam works when it is blocked and the door goes up automatically the way it should.
Customer Review: Worked Perfectly Summary: 5 Stars
These mounted perfectly on the angle iron just above the garage door motor and shouldn't have any alignment problems since they are less than 1/8 inch apart up there. The wires were a bit longer than needed when mounted there, but they really aren't in the way of anything.
The connectors provided to mount them over at the garage door were tiny and were the type that do not require stripping the wire. It would have been better to have the twist connectors because they are so much easier to handle. It would require stripping the wires however.
I highly recommend mounting them above the garage door opener and adjusting the upward/downward force sensor to the appropriate level and you shouldn't have any problems. My downward force is adjusted so that a small pile of leaves that accumulated in the corner next to the rail was enough for the door to reverse directions. With that much sensitivity, there shouldn't be any problem with anything or anyone getting crushed or injured.
Customer Review: Simple to install Summary: 5 Stars
My garage door sensors, after several years, have failed to work properly. I asked for a repair quote and was told it would cost more than $80 to repair and that was if they ran into no complications. I decided the proposed charges were excessive and chose to change out the sensors myself.
To install, cut the wires from the old sensors and remove from their mount. Save the mounting bolts as none are included with the safety beam sensor kit. Splice the wires and connect to the new sensors using the supplied crimp connectors. Align the sensors using the alignment indicator lights. Then throw away the old sensors.
For me purchasing this lit and spending about 15 minutes in the garage is well worth the savings. If you are a do-it-yourselfer, perhaps this kit is for you too.
PRO:
Simple to install
They work like the originals
CON:
Mounting bolts not included
Customer Review: Old sensors stopped working when cold Summary: 5 Stars
In south Florida "cold" means below 60 degrees, so we normally had no problems. Several times this winter the garage door wouldn't close without holding the wall mounted switch down, but the next day everything would be fine. Turns out the sensors were going bad and the lower temperatures pushed them to failure. These replacements are easily installed, all you need to do is unplug the door opener, cut the old wires, remove the old sensors by taking out the mounting bolt (only one wrench is needed), connect the old wires to the new sensors by stripping the ends and clipping on the included pushbutton wire nut, and remount the sensors. The kit does not include the mounting bolt so don't throw that away. This is a do it yourself project that anybody can do. The sensors worked perfectly, its like having a new opener.
Customer Review: Stop wasting time with the old sensors. Get this. Summary: 5 Stars
Well that was a simple and fast fix. Why did I wait, this is so much of a no brainer repair for when that garage opener starts to get a little flaky on the random reopens. I did no other adjustments, just popped these on and zero problems with the door since. For well over a couple years I struggled with trying to realign the sensors, remount the sensors, clean the sensors. That was all a waste of time. These come with solderless connectors, which you just cut the old wires (check polarity) and squeeze the connector to join the old wires to the new sensors. The sensors themselves have a thumbnut, so you don't even need anything to tighten these on. Also, for all the alignment trouble I thought I was having, I spent all of 30 seconds or so to align these, appearantly alignment only needs to be pretty rough.
