Customer Review: Idea is great, but will undoubtedly need modifications

This was purchased to use in conjunction with a patio dog door that we have. The door opening is too small for a normal patio lock. Let me say to begin with that the lock is very sturdy. The mechanism will not budge. It is simple to use - just pull down and twist to unlock and vice versa for locking the door. Another advantage is that you don't have to bend over to reach the lock. However, I had to make major modifications to the lock to get it to work. Some that many will not have the ability to even do.
First off, the plastic carriage which sits on the top of the door track was far too large. It couldn't be used at all. This meant that I had to drill into the aluminum door track to make a hole. Even with a decently powered drill (19.2 V), it took about 20 minutes. Also, the bracket which holds the mechanism onto the door post has the holes facing the metal, so you'll have to drill through the plastic outwards and then drill inwards to attach the screws to the post thereby securing the lock. Another thing is you'll absolutely have to make pilot holes and be sure they are precise or it may not line up correct at all. I believe it was stated that this didn't require any drilling. Couldn't be further from the truth.
