Tools and Hardware Reviews of Chamberlain CLDM1 Clicker Garage Door Monitor

Customer Review: Works for me.
Summary: 5 Stars

I knew that some of the reviews said that they had problems with range, but that doesn't seem to be an issue with me. Of course, I have the receiver mounted only 20 feet from the sensor.

I mounted the sensor at the top of the garage door with screws (I don't trust tape). That was the easy part.

I mounted the receiver on my bedroom wall. I knew that many people were upset about the need for a wire to run to the unit, so I just drilled a hole behind the mounting point & ran the wire through the wall down to the outlet that was conveniently below it. So, it looks like it belongs on the wall. In my opinion, it was worth the extra work.

Anyhow, I did raise & lower the garage door many times to verify function & all is well. No false alarms yet. Good product overall.

Customer Review: Insert Battery Correctly
Summary: 5 Stars

At first I was getting ready to send this back and write a scathing review but then I discovered that I was not inserting the battery correctly. One other review talks about problems with battery insertion and I suspect that some of the reviews that said it didn't work at all are due to incorrect battery insertion. The negative side of the battery goes against the printed circuit board and the positive side goes UNDER the two little prongs of the clip. With the battery inserted correctly, it is transmitting across the width of three cars plus a hallway and through four layers of drywall and a layer of insulation. There have been no problems with false readings in the first few days. The receiver is on the far corner of the house from the wireless modem, reducing interference, if any, from this.

Customer Review: Works great ... 99% of the time
Summary: 4 Stars

I was watching this item and then the price went down to about $21 on Amazon, so I bought it a month or so ago. The pre-install test didn't work well just by tilting the sensor, because it requires vibration to move the sensor (it sounds like a BB but is probably a little metal swing gate). It's been working very well, except for a week or so ago my wife asked before bed if the garage door was shut. I looked at the solid green light and said yes. She opened the inside door to check and the garage door was open. I tapped on the sensor to try to close the switch, but it wouldn't turn to flashing red. Next time closing and opening the door it worked fine, and has worked fine since then. It sort of defeats the purpose if you can't trust it and have to open the door to check for certain.

Customer Review: Everything it claims to be
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this cheap at a local store a couple years ago and it is fantastic. The transmitter is pretty small and velcro's to the garage door. The receiver is bigger, maybe about the size of a thick deck of cards. It has an AC adapter that has to stay plugged in, and can either sit on your counter or be screwed in to a wall somewhere. It has two lights, green for "door is shut" and red blinking for "door is open". This thing has saved me going out to the garage to check it at least once a day for two years. It just plain works and it has been worth every penny. This review courtesy of [...] Chamberlain Clicker Garage Door Monitor #CLDM1

Customer Review: does its job (most of the time)
Summary: 3 Stars

setup was extremely easy, and for the most part it does its job. occasionally it has lost signal and we've had to reset it by unplugging and re-plugging it in. the monitor is pretty small and unobtrusive, but what they don't show you in the photos is that it also has a pretty long, ugly silver antenna sticking out if it. the monitor also has a black plug, which seems contrary to the whole idea of designing a small, white unit. we've yet to find a good place to stash it where it doesn't just stick out like a sore thumb. but overall, it's given us peace of mind with our detached garage door, and let's us easily monitor whether the door is open or closed. (for reference, our garage door is about 30-35 feet from our monitor).
