Tools and Hardware Reviews of Chamberlain CLLP1 Laser Parking AccessoryCustomer Review: Inexpensive, easy to install, but too dim Summary: 2 StarsWhen the unit arrived, I quickly unpacked it. It was very lightweight (which is a good thing as it provides just one screw to attach it to the ceiling), but the attached wire is too short (about 8 feet long so I had to extend it with some left over wire I had from the opener install). After installing it, it was time to aim it. The laser is mounted to the base with a friction mount and aiming can be a chore. I'll have to wait and see if this thing maintains its aim over time. But my biggest complaint is that the laser isn't bright enough. Unless your garage is really dark, you won't be able to see the laser dot. Works well at night, but if there's any sunlight at all coming in your garage, you simply won't be able to see the dot at all.
Having said that, there are some nice features to this unit. It's triggered by breaking the safety beam and stays on (with a rapid pulsing) for about one minute (have a friend handy to keep breaking the safety beam while your aiming the laser). It's a two wire unit that's wired to the same terminals on the garage door opener as the safety beams and you can attatch up to two lasers to the garage door opener. With a ladder, drill and hammer (to secure the wires to the ceiling), install took all of 5 minutes. Aiming took another 5 minutes (could have been shorter if I didn't keep having to climb down the ladder to break the beam to turn it on again).
Note to Chamberlain: Provide a longer wire and make the laser brighter!
Is it worth the money? Well, it depends on your situation. If your garage is really dark (or you only come home at night), this might do the trick for you. Otherwise, just go old school and hang a tennis ball off of a string. It'll be easier to see in all conditions.
