Tools and Hardware Reviews of Chamberlain CWA2000 Wireless Motion AlertCustomer Review: Poorly designed, but may work for you Summary: 3 Stars
Disclaimer: I didn't read any of the reviews before purchasing. Perhaps I should have.
I was fairly unimpressed with this unit, having replaced a cheaper one with it. There are what I consider design flaws that prove quite aggravating. First, the batteries and controls (sensitivity, learn, etc.) are housed within a sturdy plastic unit covered by a faceplate secured by 4 screws. These screws are of small caliber, with a small/shallow phillips head, and composed of soft metal. With the repeated removals required to tune the unit, these screws stripped immediately. I simply replaced mine; maybe you can live with that. Second, the "guts" within the receiver case are entirely loose & rattle around. Probably not a big deal. Third, I found the receiver alert to be adequate in volume but the case imparts a buzzing rattle that is unsettling. Maybe you can live with that, too. Fourth, it appears to trigger well at night on the high-sensitivity setting but misses my 3/4 ton long bed truck in the daytime (kind of hard to miss).
On the upside, the range is fairly impressive. When it works, it works at a distance at least 100 yards from my entrance. The case is constructed of quality materials, is of relatively small footprint, and has a rain shield. The receiver is equally small and relatively inconspicuous. The receiver allows limited volume control and a power-on/power-off button. When powered up or down, it emits a pleasant series of tones. "learning" the unit is a snap & mine took on the first try. However, don't forget to "learn" it before you assemble it. Otherwise, you'll be off to the hardware store to replace the stripped screws. The case cover has a convenient notch to allow the short, flexible antenna to exit the unit.
Had they fixed the internal components and added an accessible battery compartment, this would be a fair unit. I recognize that you want to avoid tampering, but the difficulty of accessing the controls/batteries outweighs the risk of someone tampering with the device (which should of course trip upon manipulation). After all, this isn't a central alarm control panel, a surveillance DVR hub, a load center, or (worst of all) a wild game camera!
I wouldn't buy it again but it might serve you well. It certainly has some positive features. Hope this helps! Al in West By God Virginia.
