Tools and Hardware Reviews of Chamberlain KLIK1U Clicker Transmitter Universal Garage Door Remote Control

Customer Review: Universal? Not at all true.
Summary: 1 Stars

1" tall letters on the front of the package claim "works with ALL brands".

Simply put, that's a lie.

It works with a lot of brands, I assume. However, if you don't know the brand of opener you have (mine is in a commercial building and I can't get to the opener) there's no way to actually set the remote.

Here's part of the programming instructions:
If you have a Chaimberlain opener made between 1983 and 1989 (like I know the year?) then set the seven dipswitches (look at another remote or the opener) the same on the new remote. The extra 5 switches should be off. Press the "learn" button. Press the "open" button 19 times (yes, nineteen) waiting for the LED to flash each time. Press the program button.

If that doesn't work, try it again.
Also try reversing all the DIP switches and try again.

You could spend hours trying different combination and have no idea of when it might work.

Kiss off, Chaimberlain for claiming to work on ALL BRANDS of openers. I don't deal with dishonest companies.
This one goes back to Amazon, and I avoid all Chaimberlain products.

Customer Review: Easy to program clicker trumps the minimal range
Summary: 4 Stars

I wanted to add support to those who complimented this product for its ease of use. I was able to program the clicker to my 1990 liftmaster (didn't know the year at the time of programming) with little effort, even though my opener didn't have a "learn" button. The programming process requires you to click the button until it syncs with the model & year of your opener, the range of models and years is quite impressive. I didn't know the year of my opener, but I worked through the clicks and it programmed and helped me learn the model year of my opener at the same time. I had previously contacted an installer and they were set to charge me $45 for a clicker and wanted me to pay $60 for a service fee to have someone come and install the clicker. I picked this up from amazon for $25 and am very pleased.

BUT! I did have to give it 4 stars due to its very limited range. I pretty much have to be parked outside of my garage door for it to open. However, I am still very pleased that I was able to program the clicker so quickly and at such a reasonable price. Very user friendly and likely to work with your opener too!

Customer Review: Customer Service Non-Existent
Summary: 1 Stars

Got it to work with the garage door but it won't work with the gate. Range from the garage door is about 15 feet, max.

The directions on the paper that comes with the remote refers people to their website and an 800 number. All the website does is present you with the manual (same piece of paper) in pdf format; when you want the manual, when you have a question, when you go to the support page and request support. Calling the 800 number, the automated voice reads you the same manual (piece of paper). Plan on about 10 minutes of instructions before it offers the option of speaking to a live person, then plan on being on hold indefinitely. I never did get a live person on the phone. The website offers support via e-mail. We're a week and still waiting....

If you buy this and have trouble with it, you can save yourself a lot of frustration by just returning it for a refund. If you want to support a company with this kind of customer service in the first place. Be forewarned, they do the same thing with their garage door opener "support". The lights are on but no one's there, you're on your own.

Customer Review: Works with my old garage door opener!
Summary: 5 Stars

This garage door remote works with new and old garage door openers.

I bought this for an old garage door opener (Challenger 9300 Series) that used DIP switches for the codes instead of the contemporary, rolling code style that is automatically generated.

If you remove the bottom cover of this remote, you'll see many DIP switches inside that you can set to match the DIP switches found on your garage door opener (if you an old model). After several tries of following the instructions, it didn't work. But the instructions did have one little footnote that helped in my case : Set the DIP switches of the remote in the reverse order of what you have set on your garage door opener. Hope that helps you if you're stuck.

GOOD POINTS
- Compatible with dozens and dozens of garage door openers, even old ones
- Comes with a sun visor clip for your car. This clip can be left off too.
- Both buttons are programmable, in case you have a 2 car garage.
- This remote probably looks better than the one that came with your garage door opener.

Customer Review: Note for Overhead Door Legacy owners
Summary: 4 Stars

I needed to program a couple remotes for my existing OverheadDoor Legacy. The instructions are a bit off and one remote was easier to program than the other. I thought this info would help others.

The instructions say the door will open or a light will flash after pressing the open button 6 times. In reality all that happens is the little learning LED will stop flashing. At that point press the program button on the remote and then try opening the door.
If it doesn't work the first time, just keep trying - up to 10 times. And try to press the remote button immediately after it stops blinking. By the way, this is proof that Einstein's definition of insanity is bogus.

Tips:
1) Don't worry about 1 programmed remote interfering with another programmed remote.
2) The dip switches don't matter when using the learning function.
3) If a remote stops working just reprogram it. It may take a few tries. I tried unplugging the door opener between tries. I don't know if this helps or not but it seemed better than just trying again.
