Tools and Hardware Reviews of Chamberlain KLIK1U Clicker Transmitter Universal Garage Door Remote Control

Customer Review: It works
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a 15 year old Stanley opener with tiny switches and a 5 year old Genie electronic system and they are both programmed with this opener. A built-in opener sold by the auto dealers can cost over $400. Multiply that by the number of vehicles you put it in and it can get stupid expensive. This was less than $30. The instructions tell you how to program each button based on lists of names of different systems. It took some time to figure out which settings to use because my older system didn't work with the suggested programming and I had to experiment. I did get frustrated at the beginning. If it doesn't work at first you may need to be patient, stick with it. If you have newer equipment it should go quicker. The whole process took no more than 45 minutes.
I do not like adding things I have to store inside my car which contributes to clutter but his is small and I've made peace with clipping it to my visor. My suggestion for this company is to make a 3 or 4 button opener so I don't need to store multiple openers.
I've used it for over a month and it works fine.

Customer Review: Wow! Am I happy!
Summary: 5 Stars

My Genie opener was installed in 1990, and I had dropped the remote for what turned out to be the last time. I had searched and found out that model remote was no longer made. I took a chance and ordered the Clicker. When the Clicker arrived, I found the reference to my unit. I knew about the DIP switches inside my existing remote, and the Clicker instructions told me to program the DIP switches inside the Clicker just the same. (This is only true for specific models of openers, remotes and year installed - others use the programming button on the receiver). I followed the clear directions: they seemed a bit odd, but I followed them exactly (17 clicks) and voila! ~ the garage door opened! I programmed the other door as well, and now I have one compact remote to open both doors. I cannot believe it took me so long to find the solution, and it took less than five minutes to program the two doors. Wow! Am I happy! The instructions are clear and detailed, and you just need to follow them exactly. I actually missed the first time and simply started over, following more carefully.

Customer Review: Nice, smaller, dual remote (Updated)
Summary: 3 Stars

This dual remote is working fine for me. It's nice to have one remote for both home and work electric gate systems. Programming can take a bit only because you have to push the clicker button many times to reach the brand code for the gate/garage door. Once you get it programmed, that's it though. FYI: after each push of the button, always wait until the light stops flashing (there are a different number of flashes after each button push) otherwise you may confuse/interrupt the programming process and you will have to start over again. Good remote reasonably priced.

UPDATE: After using this remote now for a couple of months, I find that the buttons do not always operate properly, i.e. when depressed, there is not a connection (light does not illuminate) and it does not transmit a signal to the receiver. I may have to push the button a couple of times before it will operate. I have an old (full-size) clicker remote which works great all the time. I wanted the same in a smaller version...Unfortunately, I also got smaller performance.

Customer Review: Works well but zero on customer service
Summary: 4 Stars

There are days when I don't communicate well with electronic devices. No empathy from either side, I guess. The day that this remote arrived in the mail must have been one of those days because I couldn't get the thing to work, even after following the instructions twice, the second time on the phone with Chamberlain's customer service menu. I tried waiting for a live person but after five minutes I gave up and wrote them an Email instead. Didn't hear from them that way either so three days later I went out to the garage and started over. This time I was more in tune and, after following all the instructions, the door suddenly began to rise. FWIW, my opener is an old Sears/Craftsman unit, from the early 80's. BTW, contrary to the impression given by the instructions, it's not important to know how many clicks it will take to program the door opener. I couldn't find any reference to my door opener in the instructions so I just kept clicking until the door went up, then finished the ordeal by pressing the program button.

Customer Review: Works with SOME major brands
Summary: 1 Stars

As others have said, the advertising of this product is misleading. It does NOT work with all major brands. You're much better off buying a remote made by the same company that made your garage door opener.

We have an Allister opener and I ended up buying the Allstar 110995 remote after trying this one. It can handle up to 3 different codes and cost $10 less than this remote. It was also infinitely easier to program (no tiny little switches to flip, just two large buttons to push). If you're looking to replace an Allister remote, go check out the Allstar.

I just wish I had known this before I wasted an hour of my time and two trips to the store on this remote.

I would also like to add that I would have never even reviewed this product and given it such a low rating (didn't even buy it at Amazon) had the company not lied on the packaging. I have contacted the manufacturer to voice my displeasure about this as well.
