Tools and Hardware Reviews of Chamberlain KLIK1U Clicker Transmitter Universal Garage Door Remote ControlCustomer Review: Finally got it to work ... Summary: 3 Stars
I started from scratch with a motor door-opener in place, but no instructions, or master remote; had no idea if/how it could work.
OK, there was nothing saying it required post-'93 FCC-approved light sensor -- until it arrived. [Somehow got around that ...] The mechanics of the motor were not the easiest to figure out. Once we detached the Linear control, we could see the dip switches. Apparently the switches must match those in the clicker (so if the clicker is lost and you change a dip switch, no one will be able to get into your garage.)
I gave up trying to get it synced, but my g/f was able to get it to work. (We also had bad wiring, shorting out the control/motor) It comes with 2 selections buttons. Selection I we could not get working, but Selection II seems to be ok.
Instructions were not that clear; the online video was a help.
OK, it works, but what an effort to get it to sync!
Customer Review: works with Sears model 139.53100 garage door opener Summary: 5 Stars
Works well with this model even though the garage door opener was made before 1990. The garage door opener has 3-position dip switches and the Clicker has 2-position dip switches. If your garage door opener has its dip switches set to position zero, you will need to reset the switches to either the + or - positions. You cannot use the zero position with the Clicker. (You can find the dip switches on the back of the garage door opener.) Programming the Clicker is then as simple as setting its dip switches to match, pushing the programming button, and pushing the remote button until the garage door opens. Before finding the clicker, I was afraid I would have to buy a whole new garage door opener just because the remote had stopped working. The Clicker was a much cheaper option.
Of course if you have a newer model opener with Smart Learn, you can skip all the stuff about dip switches...
Customer Review: Good buy Summary: 4 Stars
I was very pleased with this little guy. Through various mishaps and acts of God I found myself completely out of garage door openers. I was a little worried about having to program one from scratch but the device came with instructions and it took about 5 minutes before I was up and running.
The only things that keeps this from being a five star review is that it's very directionally sensitive, meaning that you have to have it oriented just so in order for it to trigger the door and also the range is limited. I had to be right in front of the garage door to get it to trip vs my car's built-in opener which transmits with enough power to open it from the street. In fairness, I've mostly used openers that were built into cars, so these may be a normal limitations for stand-alone openers.
Very nice product, good instructions, easy to program - Thanks Chamberlain.
Customer Review: Tip for those who complain of short range Summary: 5 Stars
I got mine set up fairly quickly. Didn't work the first time, so I reversed all the switches on the opener and did it again, and that did the trick. But I then found the range to be very short - less than 10 feet - no good! But what I also found was that I was expecting to press the button 16 times for a Stanley opener, yet 14 did the trick (i.e. the door was activated on the 14th press.) 14 is for a multicode (I take that to mean generic.) So I programmed it again, but this time did the full 16 presses, and now my range is very good - along the lines of 100 feet. Also, if you're curious (I was) - how does it control 2 doors with only 1 set of DIP switches? It remembers the settings during activation. So you set it to match one door, do the programming step, then set it to match the switches on your second door and do the programming step for it. Great unit and highly recommend!
Customer Review: Wasn't even sure what brand my garage door opener was! Summary: 5 Stars
The garage door opener was installed before I bought the house. When I lost my remote, I just went without since I didn't know what brand/model it was. I'd tried to figure it out by looking at the unit but it's old and beaten up.
I decided to try this out of plain frustration and desperation. The instructions tell you which color your smart-programming button might be and how to program accordingly. My button is red and worked with one of the Chamberlain settings (on the very first try).
Took a VERY handy-handicapped person about 10 seconds to program this. I wonder if I'm installing my air filters in my heat pump correctly but this was easy as pie.
I'm not sure what the range is, but I haven't had it disappoint me yet - it's worked from wherever I've pressed it from.
So happy that I have an automatic garage door opener again!!!
