Tools and Hardware Reviews of Chamberlain KLIK1U Clicker Transmitter Universal Garage Door Remote Control

Customer Review: Works for my gate that's not listed on the packaging
Summary: 4 Stars

I got this mainly to open a gate, and not a garage door.

I was skeptical whether this product would work for the gate at my condo community. The gate's manufacturer was not listed as one of the supported brands on the packaging. However, I just matched up the dip switches on the clicker with the original, and kept on pushing the program button (about 10 times) until the gate opened.

This is not one of those 'learning' remotes where you point towards another remote to program it, like the way how you would program the garage door openers in a car.

I would not know how would one program this for a gate that doesn't have a remote with dip switches. Because the other method of programming the clicker involves using the 'smart learn' feature that should be in most garage door manufacturers. I don't believe gate openers have this feature.

Though I have found Amazon and its subsidiaries to be outstanding when filling and shipping orders, Amazon should, in my opinion, pay more attention to the "Technical Details" and "Product Descriptions" of the items which get listed on their site -- throughout their site by the way. The programing sheet only states the Chamberlain KLIK1U is compatible with Craftsman but there is no mention of a Craftsman unit within the list of models supported. The instruction sheet says the KLIK1U was manufactured to support units after 1993. I find reviews which report it also has worked with older units and is a good thing. Please note the Product Description "Includes 9V Battery". No such thing. If you care to read the "PDF" instruction sheet for this unit, it can be reached by clicking the "more info" button: http://www.gatehousesupplies.com/Chamberlain-KLIK1U-p/klik1u%20%20(375lm).htm

Customer Review: Excellent product
Summary: 5 Stars

With two sons at college, we suddenly had more cars than garage door remotes, and since donating my opener to son number 2, I quickly got tired of getting out of the car to open and close the door via the kepyad. These remotes were the perfect solution for our 1991 Genie Intellicode opener. It took 60 seconds to program each of the two remotes I purchased, and I am also impressed with the Chamberlain Garage Door monitor that I purchased at the same time, which tells me from the convenience of our Master Bedroom whether the garage door is open or closed. The door monitor was simplicity itself to set up. Paid around $20 each for the remotes and the monitor and received the items from [...] in a couple of business days. It's amazing how much you miss the convenience but everything is good again now. Definitely recommend these - and I very rarely post things like this.

Customer Review: Couldn't be easier to program - Works great!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a Chamberlain LiftMaster so I naturally expected the programming to be easy. Based on the instructions, since I had a green programming button on the opener itself, I knew I needed to press the button four times. I programmed the remote standing under the opener and after I pressed the button on the remote the required number of times (4), I heard the opener click. I then pressed the programming button on the remote, then the big button on the remote and it opened. I walked over to the second opener and programmed it in less than 10 seconds. It took longer to open the package and read a few steps than actually program it. Outstanding! I will say that it was not obvious that the first press of the big button (the I or II button counts as one of the clicks. But again, listen to the opener and it will tell you when it is ready.

Customer Review: Exactly what I needed
Summary: 5 Stars

I was looking for a single remote that would accommodate both a modern smart-programmable LiftMaster garage door opener and a Chamberlain MultiCode dip-switch style gate for our neighborhood. This was exactly what I needed. Within 5 minutes I had programmed 1 button using the smart programmable button in my garage, and the other by copying the dip switch settings from my existing gate remote. Now I have one compact remote to keep in my car.

I notice other reviews mention you have to follow the instructions exactly. This is true; you have to press the button you're programming a specific amount of times based on the system you want to control. Read the directions and you should have no problems. Range hasn't been an issue; it seems to work as well as or better than the original remotes I replaced.
