Customer Review: replacement garage door opener
Summary: 5 Stars

I received the garage door opener ahead of estimated delivery date. Package was received in great condition with item box being the shipment box. I was replacing an older and underpowered opener that failed so installation went pretty smoothly. Since it was cold outside I assembled the unit inside and carried it out into the garage. I used the brackets that came with the unit to attach it to the garage wall and the garage door replacing the brackets from the older unit. The rear brackets hanging up the unit had to be slightly modified from the previous unit. One word of caution - brace the unit front to back and side to side. I didn't, initially and kept blowing out one of the light bulbs from the shaking as the door opened. I stumbled on a trick to install the electric eyes. The electric eye brackets included have a 'spring' on them that the manufacturer claims will fit around the garage door track. It didn't on mine - by a lot. I drilled out the rivet holding the spring on each bracket and simply bolted the rest of the bracket to the garage door track in pre-drilled holes in the track - and magically the eyes were aligned. I'm still adjusting the force setting for opening the door because in extra cold weather (single digits) it might take two tries to open completely. Otherwise I am very satisfied with the product. I love the heat/motion detection in my unit that turns on the lights when I walk into the garage without me having to touch any controls.

Customer Review: Very quiet, lifts even our very heavy door
Summary: 5 Stars

We used to have a 1/3 HP garage door opener, and it gave us nothing but problems. We have a metal folding garage door with wood panels on the outside. Whenever there was overnight moisture, we would not be able to open the garage door. The door would become soaked when it rained, and it was very heavy.

Not a problem for this 3/4 HP garage door opener from Chamberlain. It opens our heavy garage door every time, and it's also very quiet. No loud mechanical or electrical noises when it's operating.

The box that it came in is not that large. It includes the railings in sections. The rail comes together from the pieces to form one permanent long piece. At first, we thought it would be very difficult to install this opener, but in fact it was very easy. We took our time to make sure it was installed right, and the total time was about 1 hour. The instructions were clear and the installation was surprisingly a breeze.

The only thing is that be aware that not all "universal" remote openers purchased elsewhere will work this opener. This opener uses the special SecurityPlus technology, so you should make sure any additional openers you purchase supports this. It does come with two remote controls though.

Highly recommended opener- don't make the mistake of buying a 1/2 HP opener and installing it only to find out that you need a stronger opener to open your garage door.

Customer Review: Works well
Summary: 4 Stars

I installed this to replace a 20 year old 1/3 HP Chamberlain. If you are using existing mounting brackets and wiring, installation is easy. Unit is quiet and smooth. In my case, sectional door weighs only 130lbs. Instructions are clear. I did have to install protector sensor and it worked in 1st try. Due to installation constraints, I was forced to use new mounting brackets. It was tough to find brackets of correct size (5-7 inches) as hardware stores only sell these in 3ft+ and I dont have a saw to cut those.

Pros:
- Clear instructions
- Quiet/Smooth operation
- Appears good quality
- Extremely easy installation if you use existing mounting brackets and wiring.

Cons:
- Mounting brackets that come with this unit is not something I would use (little thin).
- Contains only two mounting brackets that get attached to ceiling and not the ones with that can be used to hang the unit itself.
- Bracket holes on the unit which are used to hang it are short(length wise). It shouldnt be big deal for most but in my case I had to extend it by few inches by using a sturdy mending plate.

Overall the unit feels good. I have had it only for few days; If it works well for few weeks, I would buy it again to replace another unit in Garage.

Customer Review: Great product for a good price
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this product after my 1/3 HP Stanley could no longer open my garage door without some assistance from me - and I was spending too much time trying to make it work by adjusting the door springs, cleaning the rail, etc. After I did some research for a replacement, I was impressed by the reviews here on this Chamberlain 3/4 HP chain drive - and one referred me to Lowes, which had a great price ($168) where I purchased the product.

As discussed in the other reviews, the chain drive is strong and should be long-lasting, quiet and the installation was easy enough - it took me about 5 hours, going slowly and cautiously, and using the existing overhead mounting unit for my previous G-door opener. The directions are very clear. I was expecting to have a problem lining up the "eyes" of the safety beam - the unit will not operate unless these "eyes" can see each other, so I installed these first. I had to build out a wood base on the wall so the beam could clear some metal supports on the door which protruded. However once I put these two "eyes" up and tested the connection, it worked without any further adjustment. The rest of the installation went well - it has been working great ever since (3 weeks) and justifies my high rating.

Chamberlain PD752D 3/4-Horsepower Heavy-Duty Premium Chain Drive Garage Door Opener
* Whisper-quiet, smooth operation
* "Security+" rolling-code technology
* PosiLock theft protection
* Industrial strength power for super-heavy doors
* Two remote controls and multi-function wall-mount panel.
The unit was well packaged for shipment.
Instructions were well written and easy to understand.
I have a heavy 7 ft. wood sectional door and it opens easily and smoothly.
The sensors aligned easily first try.
Only had to make minor adjustments to the force and height open adjustments.
The remote controls and wall-mount panel were easy to program to my preference.
I love the auto sensing light which comes on automatically when I enter the garage.
Although the chain drive openers are a little noisier than some units, (much quieter than my old unit) my experience has been that they are more reliable and require less maintenance.
It took me about 4 hours to install from start to finish.
