Tools and Hardware Reviews of Chamberlain PD752D 3/4-Horsepower Heavy-Duty Premium Chain Drive Garage Door Opener

Customer Review: Nice opener
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this as a replacement for 11 year old 1/2hp opener that chewed the internal gear drive. Installation was pretty easy as a replacement. I reused the brackets on the door and motor ceiling hangers. I decided on the 3/4hp motor since the door is fairly heavy wood that takes a bit of effort to get moving, and overkill seems like a good idea for reliability.

Installation instructions state it works on both single piece and segmented doors and includes instructions for both. I have a wood segmented door. A few extra brackets might be needed for the ceiling hangers for the motor unit itself and possibly the door, but otherwise installation hardware seems comprehensive, along with a few extra nuts, bolts, and lock washers.

I was surprised how quiet it is. The motor is no louder than the noise the rollers and hinges make. It took very little adjustment--I just had to increase the "up" movement to get it to fully open--no other adjustments needed. Safety stop took very little effort to trigger right out of the box and yet does not seem to stop falsely. Accepts up to two 100 watt bulbs and has plenty of air cooling for them.

Drawbacks include the staples for holding the wire to the sensors/wall button in drywall and the lack of room for larger CFL bulbs. The included staples don't seem like they will stay in my drywall for long without adding tape or otherwise. My 100w equivalent (20-23 watt) fluorescent bulks will not fit, though some of my smaller 60W equivalent models will fit. I stuck with incandescent anyway as they work better in the cold and I do not leave them on for long periods.

Overall very happy with this purchase and would definitely recommend this unit. I do not know about long term reliability as I've only had mine for a few weeks.

Customer Review: vary good product
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a DIY product; I hired a friend to install it (track was already there, since I was replacing a 1/2 HP with this new 3/4 HP). He could not get the opener to work properly, had spent many hours agonizing until he finally took it apart and discovered that it had been assembled improperly inside the engine! That was costly, but now it works just fine.

Customer Review: Chamberlain PD752D Garage Door Opener
Summary: 5 Stars

Have been using this opener for 9 months now, including a couple of very cold spells. I can find nothing
wrong with its performance. It is stable, reliable, and quiet. The keypad features would be great for an attached garage,
which I do not have, so I had to purchase an additional remote for my house. A bit expensive, but it will lift a heavy door easily.

Easy installed with great instructions. All items in box. Even features such as light on when walking through the door way triggered by the monitor. Best of all, jerks a 1960's double wood door up and down with ease. It replaced a 1/2 HP Genie. Highly recommend.

Customer Review: Good Garage Door Opener
Summary: 4 Stars

Unit was easy to install. It took me over 10 hours over Saturday and Sunday to install because I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to attach the rail to the garage door header beam without adding any new holes since this is the third opener I am installing in this house and I did not want to make the header beam weaker with additional holes. Same situation with the top beam on the door. I also took advantage of the existing Genie sensor brackets and modified them to accept the new sensors. I gave this opener 4 stars due to it is not as quite as a screw drive Genie and I still cannot set the motor to stop before the door reach the open and close limits. My wooden door is heavy and hope the 3/4 HP Chamberlain last longer than the previous 1/2 HP Genie screw drive which lasted only 4 years.
