Ordered the Chamberlain WD822KD belt drive opener on Wednesday and using standard shipping (a few bucks more) received it on Saturday. It took my wife and me about 4 hours to install, test and program the remotes. The directions were easy to follow and the only glitch was the opener "overheated" during repeated testing for force, distance and safety. We waited the required 30 minutes and then finished the project. The opener is extremely quiet. Where our old chain drive opener vibrated the floor of the room above the garage and sounded like a vehicle was coming through the floor, the Whisper Drive has no vibration and is barely audible from that same room. Obviously I don't know how the opener will stand up over time (our Craftsman chain drive lasted 14 years) but other reviews indicate it is durable and has an excellent warranty.Customer Review: Chamberlain Whisper Drive 1/2-HP Belt Drive Garage Door Opener

The above product was delivered on the estimated delivery date that my order indicated. I went thru the parts list and noticed some parts were missing so I called Chamberlain customer service. It was on a weekend but I got thru to a live rep and she reordered the missing parts which came in a week later. The hardware assembly was precision tooled and fit together nicely. Instructions were very good which allowed me to install it all by myself. I was quite pleased with the sound level of my new Chamberlain Whisper Drive 1/2-HP Belt Drive Garage Door Opener. For 10 years I listened to the old Sears clunker which sounded like a freight train went by every time I used it... what a relief! Overall, I rate the above Chamberlain product and their customer service as excellent, and with Amazon's pricing you can't go wrong.

Bought this to replace an older open. Very quite, great light from the two 100 watt bulbs (you can use the effecient swirly ones with no problems) and the extra buttons on the remotes for lights, etc are great. You can also program your car opener buttons to work with this one. The touch pad is a good size and has a glow light that stays on, I am not sure if there is a setting for that, but it is like having a very mild nightlight which I find useful. Remotes are easy to reprogram if you accidently mess them up like I did - a cinch. We did not install the coded keypad outside so can't say anything about it. The delivery through Amazon was awesome. We ordered it at night and it was delivered FedEx in one business day and that was with the free Super Saver Shipping. I purchased this opener for a friend and installed it in one day. I took my time and was visiting most of the time so I am not sure how long it took. One trip to the hardware store for a 4 foot angle iron, 4 lag screws, and 4 bolts,lock washers and nuts. Another angle iron is recommended for horizontally reinforcing the door but I was told the doors are going to be replaced so I didn't bother.
The instructions are good. The unit works great. The only hard part was mounting the sensors using wood blocks attached to the garage. I measured up from the floor and didn't have to adjust the sensors. Not sure why others had problems aligning the sensors. Maybe I just got lucky. One small adjustment to get it to go all the way down and it works like a champ. The opener seems to be well made.

The opener installed reasonably well. The price is reasonable, if I had not had problems (excessive noise and failure). I had the opener for just over 6 months when it failed. I used the owner's manual to isolate the failure to two possible options. I checked the warranty and it was only validate if you shipped the opener to the company without opening the cover. Not knowing how long this would take, I opened the cover and inspected the parts. I purchased ($30) and installed the first possible repair option from the owner's manual; it did not repair the problem. The second option was going to be ½ of a new opener, so I went and purchased another opener. Disappointed in it only lasting just over 6 months, and the noise is/was more than the new screw-drive opener that I purchased as a replacement.
