Tools and Hardware Reviews of Liftmaster 41A5034 Garage Door Opener Safety Beam KitCustomer Review: Exact replacement for my Craftsmen opener Summary: 5 Stars
I have an 11 year old Craftsmen 1/2 HP chain driven garage door opener. One day it started going back up whenever you tried to close it. While it would still open via the remove eventually I learned that oyu could only close it by holding the manual wall button down until the door was completely shut.
After a lot of research I foudn out that the safety sensors (this product) were broken and there wa no way to bypass them (they impose a digital signal on the power lines which is very difficult to duplicate).
I purchased these sensors, installed them and every was working again.
Installation took about 3 minutes. I had to remove the old sensors (30 seconds to unscrew them and clip the wires), wire up the new sensors (60 seconds to inserted the wires in the supplied wire joiners and squeeze them with pliers) and install the new sensors (30 seconds to screw them in).
I am not exagerating the simplicity of the installation here. You usimply unplug your garage door opener (I did not but should have), remove the old sensors (each has a single wing nut holding them on) and connect two wires per sensors (just match the striped wires and the solid color wires). The kit includes wire fasteners (don't know the proper name) that look like little buttons. You insert one end of each wire you want to join and then squeeze the button with a pair of pliers. This makes a solid electrical connection that will last years.
One last note, if you wiring is damaged you will probably need to purchase more. these sensors are meant as replacements and as such only have about 12" for wire each. They expect to be used in an environemtn where the wiring is already in place, hence the hire fasteners.
Description of Liftmaster 41A5034 Garage Door Opener Safety Beam KitThe 41A5034 sensors include a pair of sensors(sending and receiving), about 12" of wire attached to each sensor, wire connectors to splice wire into existing wire, mounting screws to mount to brackets, and instructions. If your opener has not had sensors, the 41A5 034 senors can not be installed to your opener.
