I bought this box for storing some delicate mother of pearl spoons that needed to be protected. If you know what this box is, what it isn't, and the level of quality to expect, you should be quite happy with this. First off, yes, this is just an empty velvet-lined box; I'm not sure why it's called a "gift box", but don't expect anything inside that elevates or displays jewelry. It's just for storage.
The quality of the box matches the price--it's an inexpensive product, so set your expectations accordingly. For less than ~15 dollars, it actually looks quite nice, but there's no way this could pass as an expensive, high quality box, so keep that in mind when deciding how to use it.
A previous reviewer claims that his box "stopped working" after 90 days...I'm not quite sure how a box can stop working, but I don't foresee this being a problem. The only working parts are the hinges and the magnetic clasp, and those seem study and unlikely to "stop working" anytime soon. Overall I'm glad I purchased this and think it's a great value.
