Tools and Hardware Reviews of Cobra Products 400 Zip-It Drain Cleaning ToolCustomer Review: Cool Invention For Unclogging Drains! Summary: 5 Stars
We had had a clog in one of our bathroom sinks for the past few weeks. I guess you could call it a "slow drain," where the basin fills up fast and takes a long time to drain out. My wife checked the trap, which was clear, and we'd tried all the traditional chemicals, to no avail. This weekend I found this, a much better answer to our drain troubles, and it doesn't even have any chemicals to dump into the water supply.
The product is basically a 16" plastic strip with a bunch of teeth on it. You stick the Zip It down the drain, and slowly pull it back up. I pulled up enough hair and other gunk to make me think I had lost a hamster down there at some point. I used the Zip It to clean out all the drains in the house, and then tossed it. It's disposable! Consider this product Mike V approved!
I am not the most handy person around, as my wife can attest. My greatest accomplishment as a homeowner was installing some dimmer switches without burning the house down. Of course my lowest point was falling through the ceiling, from the attic. So any easy household tool that can make me a hero is a very valuable find, indeed. Before calling a plumber or buying chemicals for your shower or bathroom sink clogs, try this product first. It really works!
Customer Review: Perfect and more effective than drain-o Summary: 5 Stars
Our two bathroom sinks have had trouble for a while now. Every now and then we'll pour some drain-o or similar product down the drain and it would help for a bit, but never great.
Then we discovered this little tool.
PREPARATION:
1) Put on some gloves
2) Get a bag, such as a left-over plastic bag from the market
3) Have some paper towels handy
USAGE:
1) If you are like me and don't know how to remove the adjustable sink plug (not sure what they are called), this tool fits fine along the side
2) Stick it all the way down the drain and SLOWLY work it up. If you pull too fast it will fling "stuff" all over
3) Repeat several times going around all sides of the adjustable sink plug
4) Use the paper towels to wipe off excess grim from the Zip-It and your sink
5) Put the water on full-blast and if it doesn't flow down the drain easily, then do it a few more times
This was easy.
This was quick.
I rinsed the Zip-it off and stored in the garage for next time. One Zip-It = multiple uses.
Worth it!
Customer Review: Third Time is The Charm (with Zip it) Summary: 5 Stars
The sink in our master bath (on my wife's side) had become clogged. (from hair I assumed as that is the sink my wife uses to prepare her hair every morning. I tried two different kinds of chemicals (crystals & Rubbermaid Liquid for Hair) to no avail. (these products have worked in the past on other sinks in the house.
After researching drain "snakes" on Amazon, I noticed positive feedback for the Zip it product. I was seriously considering buying the 12 pack option, but decided to go to the local Home Depot to see if they carried one in stock to try. Sure enough they did and I was very please with the results.
It fixed the hair clog problem on my wife's sink in less than 5 minutes. I was so happy with the result that I proceeded to use the Zip it on the other sink in the master bath, in addition to the sink in my daughter's bathroom and the bathtub drain in our spare bathroom. What a difference Zip it made, with no chemicals used in the process.
I would definitely recommend using this product.
Customer Review: No hazzle clog remover! Summary: 5 Stars
This product works great! And the best part, it uses no chemicals! Just put your gloves on, have a plastic bag available, and insert the Zip It into your shower drain. I try to make it go as far down as possible, and after I feel I can't go further down, I start twisting it like I would do with spaghetti and a fork. You can't really see what is going on down there, so after you have the gut feeling that you have pushed enough, pull the Zip It out and prepare for the scene! Last night I pulled out what must have been a pound of hair! I threw away the whole thing with the Zip It included into the plastic bag and cleaned whatever mess was left. Problem solved in less than 5 minutes!
I first came by this product a year ago, when the clog in the shower became chemical resistent. That time, it took me a combination of plunger plus Zip It to remove the whole thing. Last night, the shower drain was slow again and I had a Zip It available. I didn't bother with the plunger, I just put the Zip It in that was it.
Customer Review: Cheapest and most useful tool in my workshop Summary: 5 Stars
My girl's long hair has been causing a very slow drain in the tub. 1 push in, then out, and all the hair came, and the drain is nice and quick now. Well worth the $. Say's single use, and would be well worth it. Cleaning could be dangerous, as it says, and plastic may not last too long (not designed to), but I plan to re-use (even if not, I've gotten my $ worth). With all tools I have around my shop, this is still the cheapest and most handy for its job. I did clean mine off (by carefully wiping in the direction of the teeth, to get hair into trash, the rinsing.
Note that this is NOT supposed to a drain snake, that reaches deep into the pipe to remove all obstructions. The intent is to snag and pull out the clumps of hair that can get caught in the trap, which is rarely more than 2 feet from the drain. It seems to great job of that. If you need something deep in, get a manual or power snake or call a plumber. But for a $2 investment, it's worth first seeing if you just have hair.
