Tools and Hardware Reviews of Cobra Products 400 Zip-It Drain Cleaning Tool

Customer Review: It works. It really works!
Summary: 5 Stars

OK. I bought this kind of on a desperate lark. Our bathroom sink was draining very slowly and drain cleaners were not helping. So, I was planning on taking the drain pipes and trap apart to solve the problem. Not necessarily a difficult task, but I wasn't looking forward to emptying out the vanity, the mess, etc. So, when I saw this for such a low price, I thought why not? And, here is what happened: I inserted it into the drain and pulled it back and out came a disgusting clump of black goo, hair, etc. I rinsed that off (swirling it in the toilet...don't tell my wife) then repeated this a few times until it came back clean. That sink now drains like it was brand new! The instructions say to throw away after use. But, being rather frugal, and not afraid of dealing with mucky goo, I cleaned it thoroughly in the toilet bowl, a quick final rinse with soapy water and it now waits for the next plugged drain!

Customer Review: Worked Better Than Chemicals On Our Clogged Shower Drain!
Summary: 5 Stars

My husband and I bought a 16-year-old townhouse. Within 3 minutes of a shower, the tub would fill up and we'd be in water up to our ankles. Gross! We went through 3 big bottles of drain chemicals before we finally bought this drain snake. My husband used it to clean out all kinds of icky stuff (follow the recommendations from the other reviews about wearing gloves and having a bag ready for the junk that comes out of the drain!), and now our tub drains exactly like it should. We're very glad we bought this--it's inexpensive and so much more earth-friendly than the chemicals.

The product description says it is disposable, but you do not have to throw it away. I guess maybe they say that for the people who are grossed out by it touching all that gunk in the shower drain? Anyway, we washed ours after we used it, and let it air dry, and put it back in the package so we can use it again in the future.

Customer Review: awesome
Summary: 5 Stars

I just used this drain tool in my daughter's bathroom sink. (She failed to mention that the drain had been slow-draining for months.) I cannot believe how well it worked. It took mere seconds to push the tool down the drain and pull it back out with a disgusting clump of hair and who knows what else attached to it. It was truly gross, but we were both shocked at how easy it was. I imagine it could be used again, but there is no way I'm cleaning it off. As cheap as they are, I'll be ordering more to keep on hand. Before I ordered this, I had tried a bottle of maximum strength drain cleaning gel, and that did not work. I did not want to use anymore chemicals, so I was thrilled to see a safe, inexpensive alternative. I was not expecting much and was surprised by the glowing reviews. Now I know why. I'm not sure why anyone would go back to harmful chemicals.

Customer Review: Works in most circumstances, but you can ruin it
Summary: 5 Stars

Got this when my plunger could not open a clog in my pedestal sink, which I guess are notorious for problems? I can not remove the stopper so I need something that can go around it. Crammed the whole thing down, and noticed like other purchasers that it is flimsy on the way down so you have to maneuver it. Plus the stopper was in the way. But it grabbed the clog - which wasn't even that large - and a lot of black slimy stuff on the way up. You do have to be careful, I did almost ruin the stopper, the teeth get hooked on it and do not want to let go. But it is intact and my sink is unclogged. I gave it to my mother who today told me she removed a "dead squirrel" clog from her kitchen sink, and that she broke some of the teeth off and thinks she ruined it. But for $4 it saved me a $100 visit from the auger guy. I bought 2 more to have on hand.

Customer Review: More Than Pleased
Summary: 4 Stars

I saw a video of this product being used and was so wowed I ordered two immediately. They are extremely inexpensive (I got mine on here for less than $4 each). They are fragile, but only when used carelessly. I broke some of the teeth off when I became too enthusiastic. I removed a huge amount of material from my tub (my boyflame and I both have long, long hair), and a less impressive haul from the bathroom sink.

I would advise feeding this carefully and turning it slightly before you remove it from the sink so it can get a good hold on the clog. The sink and tub ran a lot smoother afterwards.

Try this before more expensive options. It is safer for the environment and effective for many types of clogs. I would pay at least $20 for this even though it's just a cut plastic strip. The design is pretty damn good.
