Tools and Hardware Reviews of Cobra Products 400 Zip-It Drain Cleaning Tool

Customer Review: So simple it's AMAZING!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I kind of wished I took some pictures or video taped me pulling out the hairball that was causing the clog in my bath tub. I actually bought this and the Turbo Snake thing AS Seen on TV. I decided to go with this Zip-It Tool first just because it was cheaper and looked more sensible at the time. Before you begin folks, you should probably wear some goggles and dish washing gloves. Also enlist some needle nose pliers to pull out the hell that this tool surfaces.

In only 5 minutes I was completely pulled EVERYTHING out using only a quarter of it length. I ran the water and to my bath tub drain answered with the whirl wind I thought I would never see again. Just to be sure I plunged the Zip-It tool in it's entirety (the way you check your oil) and it was clean as a whistle. GET THIS PEOPLE. I wished I had found it sooner.

Customer Review: effective but DISGUSTING
Summary: 5 Stars

good news: it works
bad news: IT IS GROSS!!!!

I used this product recently on the "slow" bathroom drain in an apartment I just rented. My advice before using:

1) Have rubber gloves, paper towels and a lined wastebasket ready
2) Stick zip-it down drain, wiggling as you go if necessary to fully insert it
3) Holding your breath, slowly pull it out (gunk is SMELLY!)
4) With paper towel, wipe gunk from zip-it into wastebasket, in direction of barbs
5) Rinse off remaining gross black water into sink, then dry zip-it w/paper towels (I could not bring myself to treat this item as disposable, it wasn't THAT cheap!)

This was EXTRA GROSS, since the hair and bodily detritus were the previous tenant's, not mine. UGH, YUCK! But it did work! /:ob

Customer Review: Nice idea, did not work in my circumstance
Summary: 3 Stars

My bathtub and sink drains have been running progressively more slowly over the last few months. Usually I'm able to free things up with a well-bent coat-hanger, but I wasn't able to get the clog out that way. Before turning to a harsh chemical drain cleaner I tried the Cobra Zip-It, to pretty much no avail.

I got a few hairs but really no clumps of stuff out. I guess whatever's down there is either further than 17" down the pipe, or not clumpy enough to get pulled out in a bunch.

However I'm still giving this 3-stars because A) it was cheap and B) I think it would work for a lot of people (as evidenced by the other reviews.) Try it out, just don't expect it to necessarily solve your problem.

Customer Review: awesome.

Like another reviewer said: I think i just pulled a small rodent out of my tub. Absolutely disgusting, but totally worth it. You can buy this product at a home depot for about $2, which already seems overpriced for a simple piece of plastic. Bottom line is though that I would pay much more than $2 for this solution! I now have no issues draining, and am 100% satisfied. It says some silly things like use gloves bc the plastic is sharp (whatever), and throw away after one use, but it's durable plastic, and would'nt be "environmentally friendly" if you did trash it.

What they're really getting at is that whatever you drag up and out might be so gross that you want to trash it immediately. blech.

Customer Review: It works!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this after trying easier alternatives (drano, lye, zip-it) to no avail. This thing took about 15 minutes on first use to operate. I imagine it'll take less time going forward. It pulled out a massive gunk of decaying hair easily. Just two tips: (1) if you have an old tub, it probably has an overflow drain -- remove the cover and stick this snake in there instead of the normal drain (I tried sticking this down the normal drain but it wouldn't go further than 8 inches and then I recalled seeing the plumbers removing the overflow drain cover and using that...) and (2) don't twist it too much b/c the hair will get all tangled and wound up in the coils and it will be very difficult to clean/remove.
