Tools and Hardware Reviews of Wire Tek 1001 EasySet Mole Eliminator TrapCustomer Review: 2 for 2 Summary: 5 Stars
Four years ago I started to have a mole problem. I tried the Victor Plunger type and the Victor "out of site". I had little success with either. The plunger type was sprung quite often but only chalked up on kill. Then next year I tried the "out of site" because my children were now waking around the yard and I didn't want them messing with the traps. To be honest I gave up on the Victor "out of site" rather quickly because I found it difficult to set and check. I let them take over the next two years but I did manage one kill with a shovel.
This summer my neighbors had their lawn re sodded and the varmints immediately started tearing it up. Critter Control showed up an set up these easy-set's which I had never seen before. They caught quite a few but the neighbors decided they didn't want to pay the $80 a kill any more.
I found these traps on Amazon and order 2. As claimed they are very easy to set. First kill was within 5 hours of arrival. I let them set a few day and but no more releases so I pulled them and stomped down all the trails in my yard. A few days later I saw some activity so I set both of them again. I looked out the window a hour later and one was sprung. I figured it was a false release but to my surprise I had another one.
I've had no false releases with these traps. Follow the instructions. If you don't get something in 24 hours move them. Set them wherever you see activity. Don't just leave them in some old run. Good Luck.
Customer Review: It doesn't work in my part of the country Summary: 2 Stars
I don't know what the moles look like in your part of the country, but around here (Massachusetts) they're not much bigger than a field mouse. This trap is way too big to kill one of them - if it actually ever tripped. Even if the mole was strong enough to push the trigger, the jaws would snap and miss him front and back.
I've tried smoke bombs and poisons, but nothing seemed to work. After reading the reviews here, I ordered two of them. I've set them following the instructions, I've set them with recommendations from reviewers here, and I've come up with quite a few variations myself, but in 2-plus months of trying, I haven't had one trip, yet. And, in just about every case, what I've found is that the mole has either dug a tunnel around the trap trigger, or went deep under it.
I pulled one trap out without tripping it, turned it over, and wacked the trigger with a branch to try and get it to trip. It wouldn't, so I had to get a bigger branch.
I even tried lifting up the top lever slightly to try and pre-trip it to make it more sensitive, but that didn't help, either.
The two I received look like the picture above, except that the frame is now a flat plate. So it's been redesigned, and all I can think is that it used to work but doesn't anymore.
My neighbors next door spend big bucks to have a landscaper maintain their lawns, and I see they have a couple of the Victor plunge traps set up. I think I'll give those a try next.
Customer Review: Product of the Year Summary: 5 Stars
This is my first product review, although I use Amazon's customer reviews all the time before making my own purchases. I love this product so much that I had to write about it to hopefully help others that have helped me. I have a SEVERE mole problem and my lawn maintenance company and my chemical company have not been able to contain it. So I decided to take it upon myself to try to eliminate or at least reduce my plague. I did a lot of internet research and decided to go with the four-pronged approach - traps, poison, granule repellents and vibrating devices. I love animals so it was very difficult to make the decision to trap and kill, but after looking at the different types of traps and reviewing my situation, I did decide on the Mole Eliminator trap. This trap is so effective! I am a not so strong or brave female and I can set it so easily. No digging or anything complicated, it takes about 1 minute to set up. I just received this trap and set it up last night and I already have a mole. The only problem I have now is how to dispose of that mole, but I am really excited and thrilled to think I am now on my way to solving my problem. I think I will just have to pay someone to remove each mole from the trap, because I definitely will not do it myself. (That is something to consider as the mole is still in the trap and I am anxious to set it again but I have to wait until someone else will take the mole out.)
Customer Review: I don't recommend for use in my area - Charleston SC Summary: 1 Stars
This is the first trap that I used in trying to do something about the mole problem that I began experiencing about a couple of months ago. After using it for a few weeks, with zero results, I decided to use another trap. After several failed attempts with the Easy Set Mole Trap, I turned to the Trapline mole trap and have had great results. The Easy Set trap just appears to be too big for the size of the moles in my yard. Even though the traps were activated several times, there was never a dead mole in any of the Easy Set traps. The moles in my area appear to be much too small for the Easy Set trap, where the Trapline trap is catching moles left and right. Not only that, but the Trapline traps cost much less. If you've tried the Easy Set Mole Trap with no results, I urge you to try the Trapline product. Make sure to watch the videos on the Trapline website carefully on how to set and place the traps. Whichever trap you choose, good luck with your mole hunting!
P.S. The moles in my yard are digging tunnels directly above my sprinker system lines. Most of the mole that I've caught have been from inserting the Trapline traps in the mole tunnels directly above the sprinkler lines. These tunnels appear to be their major "highways" that are often travelled by the moles.

Customer Review: the absolute best mole trap Summary: 5 Stars
I sit on 13 acres and always have moles. About five years ago we caught 23 during the spring to fall season. I have probably a dozen mole traps, from the plunger to the in-ground out of sight ones. All of the plunger traps are almost totally useless. Don't waste your money on them. Sweeney, Victor, Revenge and other brands do not, repeat not, work well if at all. The only plunger trap I use now is a fifty year old Victor. They do not make them like that today. I don't know what it is, but the new plunger traps by all companies are useless. The one I inherited from gramps works about 50% of the time depending on how deep the tunnel is. I bought a Wire Tek Easyset trap last year and if a mole goes thru, he is a goner! I can recall only one time when the trap was tripped and there was no mole. Either I missed him or the trap sprung by itself---which I have seen happen. I pushed down with my foot to cock it and as I turned around, it tripped. apparently I had not cocked it properly. This trap is expensive, but I could have bought alot of Easyset traps with the money I wasted on plunger traps. I heartily recommend this mole trap for anyone with a serious mole problem. One hint: I use my old KBar to cut the soil so the blades have an easier time opening up. You could also use a small shovel, etc.
