Tools and Hardware Reviews of Wire Tek 1001 EasySet Mole Eliminator TrapCustomer Review: Another Satisfied Customer Summary: 5 Stars
Well I finally got the little booger, or should I say the really big one. I tried many of the traps listed online, and also the peanut pellets, but nothing would get rid of the mole which was tearing up my front manacured lawn and the mulch in my flower bed for the last 2 months.
This trap really works, and like others have said, if you don't catch something in 24 hours, than move the trap to a new location.
It took me a week to catch this pesky mole once I received the trap because the ground was soggy from the rain, and this makes the trap difficult to set because it continously sinks into the ground.
It also seems that it made it difficult for the mole to push up the ground to set off the trap from the weight of the wet soil, so I suggest to not set the trap up when the ground is soggy.
Once the ground dried up though, I set the trap, and within 12 hours it went off. I have to tell you that this morning was the happiest day in the last 2 months as my wife ran in the house to tell me that the trap had gone off, and when I pulled it out of the ground, there was this giant mole which was twice the size of a mouse.
In our area of Northern Ohio, the moles are usually small, but I was
Customer Review: Very Effective Mole Trap Summary: 5 Stars
I have a suburban home that backs to woods and I get many moles. Using two of these trap, I have caught 8 moles this year and 1 for a friend who I loaned the traps to. As with most traps, it's important to place the traps in active runs. Flatten all runs in the evening and look for new runs the next morning (you simply won't be successful if you don't have an idea of where the moles are active). Place traps in the new runs. Wet/damp areas are best as moles will move to the surface for feeding on worms (run a sprinkler if needed). Any trap will struggle in hard ground however these are far better than traps that plunge from the top. When setting the trap, the scissors open and create a channel to close on when triggered. The springs are strong and hard to open by hand (especially to release your catch) however I find them easy to set by stepping on them as instructed. You should make sure the trap is not tilted or smashed so far into the ground that it causes the mole to go around the trap. Use two traps to increase the chances of success. I generally leave the traps for one day and then move them if I've been unsuccessful. When it comes to mole wars, these are the most effective weapons I have found. I paid $38 each plus shipping for mine.
Customer Review: Hardest part was removing dead mole from trap! Summary: 5 Stars
UPDATE: Set trap in a new run, made sure the top was cracked and disturbed, forgot about it, 2 hours later left house to pick up takeout, and the trap was tripped. Mole was huge, and dead!
This works and is worth every penny. I only have one so far, but after 12 hours of my impatience I moved it, and the next morning the trap was tripped, and it was NOT a false alarm. The little ba**ards have been ruining my lawn since I moved in this March (back yard is fenced with woods, good soil, and Michigan moles grrr), and after trying poison pellets, poison gas, castor oil, granule repellants, and TomCat worms (worked for a little while), this finally is giving me some peace of mind!
Tips:
Wear gloves when handling trap anytime.
Stick jaws into ground a few times before setting it to help with any scent it's picked up from shipping/handling.
Find a mound with a cracked surface and put it there (this is a run they use actively)
Follow the directions (don't straddle the run with the jaws, put the jaws in line with the tunnel)
Practice a maniacal laugh (muah ha ha) for when the little ba**ard gets caught!
1 will work, but 2 placed in different locations might catch more.
Happy hunting!
Customer Review: Don't waste your money Summary: 1 Stars
It is useless. The trap is very heavy and the pressure required to spring the trap is far beyond what the average mole is going to put on it. I installed the trap over the tunnel properly. First the mole just created a detour around the trigger plate pressing down into his tunnel. On the second attempt the mole successfully dug under the trigger plate without triggering the trap.
Tree or plant roots, that the mole seems to have no problem with, will prevent the jaws from opening when you are attempting to install it. So forget using it around trees or shrubs.
Found an alternative, make a hole in the tunnel with a stick or screw driver, put in some Decon mouse posion, move about six inches down the tunnel and make another small hole. Put in liquid dishwashing soap, then move another six inches down the tunnel, make another little hole and pour in mouse posion again. Which ever way the mole comes down the tunnel he will hit the soap and then hit the mouse posion. The soap will cause the posion to stick to his fur and some will desolve into his fur. When he licks clean his fur, the mouse posion does the job.
Customer Review: Worth the extra cost. Summary: 4 Stars
I was hesitant to purchase this product because of the price. With so many less expensive options, I couldn't decide whether the money was worth the convenience. It was. Unlike most other traps that require digging - some to the point of placing traps literally in the mole run - this one is simply pushed into the ground with your hands and stepped on with your foot. Very easy and we caught our first mole the night we bought it. Setting took less than one minute and is as close to fail proof as a trap can be.
Hunting moles takes patience. You have to really watch for runs that are fresh and serve as primary feeding routes. This can take time. Failure to catch a mole is usually due to placing the trap in a "run less traveled." If trap does not trigger within 24-48 hours, move the trap. My method is to take the family out for a game of "flatten the mound" where we all do our best to flatten every run we see. Then, within 2-3 days the active runs pop back up and the hunt is on. Good luck!
